Surfactant self-assembling in the gas phase: bis(2-ethylhexyl)-sulfosuccinate divalent metal ion anionic aggregates
2012
RATIONALE Investigation of fundamental aspects driving surfactant self-assembling and of the capability of including guest molecules or ions in their micellar aggregates is an exciting research field for theoretical and technological reasons. In this light, assembling and chelating properties of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOTNa) towards divalent metal ion chlorides have been investigated in the gas phase by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in negative ion mode, tandem mass spectrometry and energy-resolved mass spectrometry. METHODS Water/methanol solutions of AOTNa and chloride salts of nickel, magnesium, calcium and manganese, with different AOTNa/metal salt ratios, w…
Levan production byZymomonas mobilis cells. Attached to plaited spheres
1997
In this work, an immobilization method for polymer-levan production by a non-flocculating Z mobilis culture was developed. The extent of cell attachment to the stainless steel wire surface, culture growth and product synthesis were described. It was established that during short-term passive immobilization of non-flocculating Z mobilis cells on a stainless steel wire surface, sufficient amounts of biomass for proper levan and ethanol fermentation could not be obtained. Adherence of cells was improved by pressing the paste-like biomass within stainless steel spheres knitted from wire with subsequent dehydration. Biomass fixed in metal spheres was used for repeated batch fermentation of levan…
Die bestimmung der molekulargewichtsverteilung von nichtkristallisierenden polymeren mit dem elektronenmikroskop, 7. Präparation durch verdampfung de…
1977
A preparation method is described by means of which it is possible to transfer individual molecules of a high molecular weight polymer on a support, in order to determine their mass and therefrom their molecular weight distribution, using our previously published electron microscopic method. The advantages of the new procedure as compared to the previously described freeze-drying are 1 that the range of solvents, which can be used is much larger, and 2 that the preparation is performed by evaporation from a dilute solution, which means that the molecules are distributed statistically on the support. The risk of formation of associates is avoided by keeping the polymer concentration correspo…

Space Charge Dynamics in Nanostructured Epoxy Resin
2008
The results of a comparative analysis performed on specimens of nanostructured epoxy resins obtained by different filler concentrations are reported in this paper. The specimens were prepared by dispersion of bohemite nanoparticles into a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin cross linked under UV. Dielectric properties, in particular space charge accumulation, are measured as a function of nanofiller content. Results indicate that space charge build up and charge mobility are affected largely by filler content. Concentrations of nanofiller of 5-7 wt% show a significant decrease of the space charge with respect to the base epoxy-resin and an increased mobility of negative carriers .
Selective CO 2 Sorption Using Compartmentalized Coordination Polymers with Discrete Voids**
2021
Carbon capture and storage with porous materials is one of the most promising technologies to minimize CO2 release into the atmosphere. Here, we report a family of compartmentalized coordination polymers (CCPs) capable of capturing gas molecules in a selective manner based on two novel tetrazole-based ligands. Crystal structures have been modelled theoretically under the Density Functional Theory (DFT) revealing the presence of discrete voids of 380 A3 . Single gas adsorption isotherms of N2 , CH4 and CO2 have been measured, obtaining a loading capacity of 0.6, 1.7 and 2.2 molecules/void at 10 bar and at 298 K for the best performing material. Moreover, they present excellent selectivity an…
Rheological study of gel phenomena during epoxide network formation in the presence of sepiolite
2012
The dynamic behaviour during the crosslinking of an epoxy polymer near the gel point was monitored using rheological multiple frequency experiments. The influence of a needle-shaped inorganic nanofiller, sepiolite, either non-modified or organically surface modified during the cure process in the presence of an aliphatic and an aromatic hardener was investigated. The validity of various criteria for determining the gel point was examined for the crosslinking of these filled thermosets. The Winter–Chambon criterion at the gel point is obeyed by the unfilled and by the non-modified sepiolite-filled epoxy matrix with either of the two hardeners. However, physical gels are formed in the presenc…
Acid-catalyzed mechanocatalytic pretreatment to improve sugar release from birch sawdust: Structural and chemical aspects
2022
Abstract This study examined acid-catalyzed mechanocatalytic pretreatment of birch sawdust without a separate impregnation step. Catalyst amount and pretreatment time were the key variables. Pretreated material was mixed with water for hydrolysis (100 °C, 60 min). The efficient release of total reducing sugars from birch sawdust is significant to the path towards biofuels and biochemicals. Based on the results, the structure and surface of birch sawdust changed as a function of mechanocatalytic pretreatment. Milling time caused significant transformations in birch structure and also increased the yields of reducing sugars. The highest yield of total reducing sugar from pretreated sawdust wa…
