Japanin opiskelu Suomessa perusopetuksesta korkea-asteelle
2020
Japanin opetus lukioissa on ottanut harppauksia kuluneen vuosikymmenen aikana.

Linear Types for Higher Order Processes with First Class Directed Channels
1995
Abstract We present a small programming language for distributed systems based on message passing processes. In contrast to similar languages, channels are one-to-one connections between a unique sender and a unique receiver process. Process definitions and channels are first class values and the topology of process systems can change dynamically. The operational semantics of the language is defined by means of graph rewriting rules. A static type system based on the notion of linear types ensures that channels are always used as one-to-one connections.
L’atteggiamento nei confronti della pubblicità comparativa: efficacia persuasiva dei messaggi bilaterali
2006
The effect of a comparative advertising on attitude toward the brand and on attitude toward the ad was studied. In the first experiment, a comparative and a not-comparative advertising of a fictitious brand of stroller for children has been presented to 160 subjects. Results demonstrate that subjects, when exposed to a comparative communication, are likely to scrutiny the persuasive message and the elaboration tend to be high. The analysis shows moreover that comparative advertising evokes a less favorable attitude toward the ad. In the second experiment, the persuasive effectiveness of a two-sided messages compared to one-sided message was verified. Finally, in the third experiment we hypo…

SMS-messages - context for traditional and modern proverbs
2014
The article focuses on SMS-messages as short letters in a Finnish daily newspaper, Salon Seudun Sanomat. A proverb is often included in the SMS-message. The analysis is based on Charles Briggs’s (1988) research on a proverb’s performances. Proverbs in a spoken language are in many ways similar to proverbs in the colloquial written form; presentational features are the same. The research is also based on Lev Vygotski’s (1967) claim that a language is linked to a thought, and on Gottlob Frege’s (2000) principle of context. Thirdly, an utterance should follow Paul Grice’s (1975) cooperative principles of quantity, quality, relation, and manner. In what follows the meaning of the proverbs will …

Modelling Recurrent Events for Improving Online Change Detection
2016
The task of online change point detection in sensor data streams is often complicated due to presence of noise that can be mistaken for real changes and therefore affecting performance of change detectors. Most of the existing change detection methods assume that changes are independent from each other and occur at random in time. In this paper we study how performance of detectors can be improved in case of recurrent changes. We analytically demonstrate under which conditions and for how long recurrence information is useful for improving the detection accuracy. We propose a simple computationally efficient message passing procedure for calculating a predictive probability distribution of …
SMS Messages in a Daily Finnish Newspaper : The Contect of Proverb Performances
2016
The article focuses on Finnish proverbs as a part of contemporary colloquial written language in everyday use and context. The article offers a view on what is happening with proverbs in the vernacular in Finnish everyday life. Most traditional Finnish proverbs originate from an agrarian context and still use agrarian language, even if nowadays they live in a new context with a new meaning. As empirical material this article uses a special case that demonstrates the use of proverbs in one Finnish newspaper: proverbs in SMS messages published as a letter to the editor in a newspaper. peerReviewed
