S-shaped decanuclear heterometallic [Ni8Ln2] complexes [Ln(iii) = Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho]: theoretical modeling of the magnetic properties of the gadolini…

2014

The reaction of 8-quinolinol-2-carboaldoxime (LH2) with Ni(II) and Ln(III) salts afforded the heterometallic decanuclear compounds [Ni8Dy2(μ3-OH)2(L)8(LH)2(H2O)6](ClO4)2·16H2O (1), [Ni8Gd2(μ3-OH)2(L)8(LH)2(H2O)4(MeOH)2](NO3)2·12H2O (2), [Ni8Ho2(μ3-OH)2(L)8(LH)2(H2O)4(MeOH)2](ClO4)2·2MeOH·12H2O (3) and [Ni8Tb2 (μ3-OH)2(L)8(LH)2(MeOH)4(OMe)2]·2CH2Cl2·8H2O (4). While compounds 1-3 are dicationic, compound 4 is neutral. These compounds possess an S-shaped architecture and comprise a long chain of metal ions bound to each other. In all the complexes, the eight Ni(II) and two Ln(III) ions of the multimetallic ensemble are hold together by two μ3-OH, eight dianionic (L(2-)) and two monoanionic oxi…

Triplet of cysteines – Coordinational riddle?

2020

Polythiol binding of metal ions plays crucial role in the proper functioning of cysteine-rich proteins that are responsible for metal homeostasis and defending processes against metal toxicity (including heavy metals detoxification). The coordination properties of cysteine residues involved in specific sequencional patterns in proteins (like those present in e.g. metallothioneins) are interesting not only from a chemical point of view but may also lead to a better understanding of the purpose and allocation of metal ions in various biomolecules. In this study, the interaction of Zn2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+ ions with four peptides containing cysteine triplet motif were studied by potentiometric and …

Unusual binding ability of α,β-dehydrodipeptides towards metal ions

1994

Abstract Ni II , Zn II and Co II complexes of α,β-dehydro-dipeptides (containing Gly, Leu, Ala, Val or Phe residues) were studied by potentiometric and spectroscopic methods. Deprotonation and coordination of amide nitrogens occurred in all cases around the physiological pH range. The dipeptides with composition of Xaa-Δ-Ala formed octahedral species, while Gly-Δ-Xaa (Xaa = Leu or Phe) formed square planar bis complexes with Ni II .

A novel polynitrile ligand with different coordination modes: Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of the series [M(tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (M=Mn, …

2008

International audience; A novel polynitrile ligand (tcnoprOH− = [(NC)2CC(OCH2CH2CH2OH)C(CN)2]−) with up to five potentially coordinating groups has been synthesized in a one-pot reaction from a cyclic acetal and malononitrile. The combination of this novel ligand with different transition metal ions has led to the synthesis of two different structural types with the same formula but with different coordination modes in the ligand. Mn(II) and Cu(II) lead to a μ2-N,O-coordinating mode in the series of compounds formulated as [M(N,O-tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (M = MnII (1) and CuII (2)), whereas Co(II) and, most probably Ni(II), lead to a μ2-N,N′-coordinating mode in [Co(N,N′-tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (3). Binuclear Cu2+ complex mediated discrimination between L-glutamate and L-aspartate in water.

2005

L-Glutamate and L-aspartate selectivity is achieved by the action of two Cu2+ metal ions rightly disposed in a cyclophanetype macrocyclic framework; electrochemical sensing of glutamate has been achieved by adsorption of the copper complexes on graphite electrodes. Binding abilities of dehydropeptides towards Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions. Impact of Z–E isomerization on metal ion binding

2002

The study on the binding ability of dehydro-tri- and tetrapeptides has shown that the alpha,beta-double bond has a critical effect on the peptide coordination to metal ions. It may affect the binding of the vicinal amide nitrogens by the electronic effect and stabilize the complex due to steric effects. The (Z) isomer is the most effective in stabilizing of the complexes formed. The presence of large side chain in the dehydroamino acid residue may also be critical for the coordination mode in the metallopeptide systems.

Metal-functionalized covalent organic frameworks as precursors of supercapacitive porous N-doped graphene

2017

Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) based on polyimine with several metal ions (FeIII, CoII and NiII) adsorbed into their cavities have shown the ability to generate N-doped porous graphene from their pyrolysis under controlled conditions. These highly corrugated and porous graphene sheets exhibit high values of specific capacitance, which make them useful as electrode materials for supercapacitors.

Electrochemical identification of metal ions in archaeological ceramic glazes by stripping voltammetry at graphite/polyester composite electrodes

2002

The electrochemical response of metal ions in different samples of coloured ceramic tin-lead glazes attached to graphite/polyester composite electrodes is described. In addition to the ubiquous signals for lead, reductive dissolution processes are followed by anodic stripping peaks for Co, Cu, Sb, Mn, Sn and Fe, enabling the direct identification of such elements in microsamples proceeding from archaeological glazed tiles from Valencia (Spain) workshops (16th-18th century). Additional anodic and cathodic peaks corresponding to redox processes involving metal species in solution generated during stripping processes are also used. Peak potentials, Tafel plots and shape parameters are used for…

Sensing of Transition Metals by Top-Down Carbon Dots

2021

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a new class of carbon-rich materials with a range of unique optical and structural properties. They can be defined as carbon nanoparticles, with sizes in the range of 1–10 nm, displaying absorption and emission activities in the UV-VIS range. Depending on the structure, CQDs display a wide variability of properties, which provides the possibility of finely tuning them for several applications. The great advantages of CQDs are certainly the ease of synthesis, non-toxicity, and the strong interactions with the surrounding environment. Based on this, CQDs are especially promising as selective chemosensors. The present study reports on carbon quantum dots synthesi…
