Spectroscopic study of the interaction of Ni(II)-5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene ortho-phenylendiiminate with native DNA.

The interaction of native calf thymus DNA with the cationic Ni(II) complex of 5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene ortho-phenylendiimine (NiL(2+)), in 1mM Tris-HCl aqueous solutions at neutral pH, has been monitored as a function of the metal complex-DNA molar ratio by UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The dramatic modification of the DNA CD spectrum, the appearance of a broad induced CD band in the range 350-400nm, the strong increase of the DNA melting temperature (T(m)) and the fluorescence quenching of ethidium bromide-DNA solutions, in the presence of increasing amounts of the NiL(2+) metal complex, support the existence of a tig…

Design of chiral magnets: Cyanide-bridged bimetallic assemblies based on cyclohexane-1,2-diamine

Abstract Four magnetic compounds based on chiral ligands trans-(1S,2S)-chxn and trans-(1R,2R)-chxn (chxn: cyclohexane-1,2-diamine), [Ni(trans-(1S,2S)-chxn)2]3[Fe(CN)6]2·2H2O (1), [Ni(trans-(1R,2R)-chxn)2]3[Fe(CN)6]2·2H2O (2), [Cu(trans-(1S,2S)-chxn)2]3[Fe(CN)6]2·4.5H2O (3) and [Cu(trans-(1R,2R)-chxn)2]3[Fe(CN)6]2·4.5H2O (4), are reported. The four compounds are chiral, as confirmed by X-ray analyses and circular dichroism measurements. From the magnetic point of view, 1 and 2 behave as ferromagnets, whereas 3 and 4 show a paramagnetic behavior.

The interaction of native calf thymus DNA with the Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes of 5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene orto-phenylendiimine (ZnL(2+) and CuL(2+)), in 1 mM Tris-HCl aqueous solutions at neutral pH, has been monitored as a function of the metal complex-DNA molar ratio by UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results support for an intercalative interaction of both ZnL(2+) and CuL(2+) with DNA, showing CuL(2+) an affinity of approximately 10 times higher than ZnL(2+). Confinement effects of native calf thymus DNA interacting with the complex Cu(ii)-5-(triethylammoniummethyl)salicylidene ortho-phenylendiiminate (CuL(2+)) perchlorate in tetraethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C(12)E(4)) liquid crystals have been investigated by UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The results indicate the occurrence of dramatic structural changes of both the DNA and the CuL(2+)-DNA system, when going from aqueous solution to C(12)E(4) liquid crystals, due to confinement constrains imposed by the closed structure of C(12)E(4) reverse micelles. This study reports the synthesis of two novel families of gold(I) complexes, including N1-substituted bis-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of general formula [Au(N1-TBM) 2]BF 4 (N1-TBM = N1-substituted 9-methyltheobromin-8-ylidene) and mixed gold(I) NHC-alkynyl complexes, [Au(N1-TBM)alkynyl]. International audience; The development of the high purity magnesium alloys (such as WE43) incites the designers to reconsider them, and the car industry appears, these days, the most interested to use this kind of alloy. However, due to their ignitability and tendency to oxidation, magnesium alloys require surface treatments. A series of experiments was carried out in order to improve the corrosion resistance of two types of magnesium alloys, WE43 and ZE41. MoSi2 laser cladding—elaboration, characterisation and addition of non-stabilized ZrO2 powder particles

International audience; The cladding process using laser beam radiation comprises different operational regimes, depending on the involved lasers (usually CO2 or Nd:YAG) and materials. A series of experiments has been carried out to investigate Nd:YAG laser cladding using MoSi2 powder. Procedures and operating parameters for producing clad layers has been developed and their properties evaluated. The feasibility of the laser cladding technique, using a high power Nd:YAG laser, by projecting MoSi2 powder on steel substrate was demonstrated. The results indicate a low density of cracks, elevated powder catchment efficiency (between 65 and 90%) and hardness values around 1200–1300 HV. Our goal…

Real-Time Observation of “Soft” Magic-Size Clusters during Hydrolysis of the Model Metallodrug Bismuth Disalicylate

International audience; Colloidal bismuth therapeutics have been used for hundreds of years, yet remain mysterious. Here we report an X-ray pair distribution function (PDF) study of the solvolysis of bismuth disalicylate, a model for the metallodrug bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol). This reveals catalysis by traces of water, followed by multistep cluster growth. The ratio of the two major species, {Bi9O7} and {Bi38O44}, depends on exposure to air, time, and the solvent. The solution-phase cluster structures are of significantly higher symmetry in comparison to solid-state analogues, with reduced off-center Bi3+ displacements. The goal of my PhD thesis was to synthesize new molecules, which give access to heterobimetallic complexes with interesting properties for multimodal imaging.
