Experimental and theoretical study of dense YBO3 and the influence of non-hydrostaticity.

2021

[EN] YBO3 is used in photonics applications as a host for red phosphors due to its desirable chemical stability, high quantum efficiency and luminescence intensity. Despite its fundamental thermodynamic nature, the isothermal bulk modulus of YBO3 has remained a contentious issue due to a lack of comprehensive experimental and theoretical data and its vibrational modes are far from being understood. Here, we present an experimental-theoretical structural and vibrational study of YBO3. From structural data obtained from synchrotron X-ray diffraction data and ab initio calculations, we have determined the YBO3 bulk modulus, isothermal compressibility tensor and pressure-volume (P-V) equation o…

Dielectric properties of 0.4Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3–(0.6-x)SrTiO3–xPbTiO3 solid solutions

2014

Abstract In this paper we present our measurements of the linear and nonlinear dielectric permittivity of 0.4 Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 – ( 0.6 - x ) SrTiO 3 – xPbTiO 3 solid solutions (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15). The dielectric anomaly increases in the system with respect to the concentration of lead, showing that interactions between dipolar entities are modified. The system exhibits dipolar-glass-like behaviour at low values of x ( 0 ⩽ x 0.1 ). Relaxor behaviour emerges in the sample where x = 0.1 . Furthermore, a spontaneous first-order phase transition from relaxor to normal ferroelectric is observed at x ⩾ 0.15 . A few peculiar dispersion regions are observed in the ferroelectric phase, which …

The plastic crystalline A15 phase of dimethylaminoalane, [N(CH3)2–AlH2]3

2016

A plastic crystalline phase of dimethylaminoalane has been discovered at T > 332 K. The phase transitions solid - plastic phase - liquid are fully reversible. The plastic crystalline phase exhibits a cubic unit cell, space group Pm3[combining macron]n, in which the dimethylaminoalane molecules rotate and adopt a structural arrangement reminiscent of the A15 phase.

Room-temperature vibrational properties of potassium gadolinium double tungstate under compression up to 32GPa

2015

Abstract KGd(WO 4 ) 2 has been studied by high-pressure Raman spectroscopy at room temperature up to 32.2 GPa. Evidences of two pressure-driven phase transitions have been detected. The low-pressure monoclinic phase undergoes a phase transition at 7.2(±0.9) GPa. The second transition is found at 14.2(±1.6) GPa. Both transitions are reversible. No evidence of pressure-induced amorphization is found up to 32 GPa. The pressure dependence of the Raman active modes of the low- and high-pressure phases is reported. A Raman mode is detected to exhibit a weak softening in the low-pressure phase. Three Raman modes are also observed to have a similar behavior in the second high-pressure phase. The re…

Hydrogen sensor based on a palladium-coated fibre-taper with improved time-response

2006

Abstract We report an experimental study of the response of a hydrogen sensor, based on a palladium-coated tapered optical fibre, at different temperatures in the range −30 to 80 °C. We have studied the transmission, the time-response and the initial response velocity, being able to correlate these measurements with the pressure–composition isotherms of the Pd–H system and its phase transitions. Heating of the palladium layer optically with an auxiliary laser diode permits to improve the sensor's time-response at low temperatures.

Formation of local spin-state concentration waves during the relaxation from photoinduced state in a spin-crossover polymer

2017

The complex relaxation from the photoinduced high-spin phase (PIHS) to the low-spin phase of the bimetallic two-dimensional coordination spin-crossover polymer [Fe[(Hg(SCN)3)2](4,4′-bipy)2]nis reported. During the thermal relaxation, commensurate and incommensurate spin-state concentration waves (SSCWs) form. However, contrary to the steps forming at thermal equilibrium, associated with long-range SSCW order, the SSCWs forming during the relaxation from the PIHS phase correspond to short-range order, revealed by diffuse X-ray scattering. This is interpreted as resulting from the competition between the two types of SSCW order and another structural symmetry breaking, due to ligand ordering,…

Solvent extraction studies of uranium(VI) from phosphoric acid: Role of synergistic reagents in mixture with bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid

2014

Abstract The extraction of uranium(VI) from 5.3 mol·L − 1 H 3 PO 4 (a typical concentration of wet phosphoric acid) with a series of neutral organosphosphorus synergistic reagents (0.125–0.250 mol·L − 1 ) used in mixture with 0.5 mol·L − 1 bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in Isane IP 185 (a 100% isoparaffinic aliphatic diluent) has been investigated. The series of synergistic reagents includes tri- n -butyl phosphate (TBP), di- n -butyl n -butyl phosphonate (DBBP), n -butyl di- n -butyl phosphinate (BDBP), tri- n -butyl phosphine oxide (TBPO), tri- n -hexyl phosphine oxide (THPO), tri- n -octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO), tri- n -decyl phosphine oxide (TDPO), di- n -hexyl n -decyl pho…

Distribution of rare earth elements in marine sediments from the Strait of Sicily (western Mediterranean Sea): Evidence of phosphogypsum waste contam…

2010

Concentrations of rare earth elements (REE), Y, Th and Sc were recently determined in marine sediments collected using a box corer along two onshore–offshore transects located in the Strait of Sicily (Mediterranean Sea). The REE + Y were enriched in offshore fine-grained sediments where clay minerals are abundant, whereas the REE + Y contents were lower in onshore coarse-grained sediments with high carbonate fractions. Considering this distribution trend, the onshore sediments in front of the southwestern Sicilian coast represent an anomaly with high REE + Y concentrations (mean value 163.4 lg g 1) associated to high Th concentrations (mean value 7.9 lg g 1). Plot of shale-normalized REE + …

A modified guanosine phosphoramidite for click functionalization of RNA on the sugar edge

2012

A propargyl containing guanosine phosphoramidite was synthesized and incorporated into siRNA, enabling click-ligation with an azido fluorophore onto the nucleobase sugar edge. Duplex stability was not affected by labeling at this new site, which allowed deconvolution of the effects of label, structure and attachment site on RNAi activity.
