Characterisation and radiolysis of modified lithium orthosilicate pebbles with noble metal impurities

2017

Modified lithium orthosilicate (Li4SiO4) pebbles with additions of titanium dioxide (TiO2) are suggested as an alternative tritium breeding ceramic for the European solid breeder test blanket module. The noble metals – platinum (Pt), gold (Au) and rhodium (Rh), can be introduced into the modified Li4SiO4 pebbles during the melt-based process, due to the corrosion of Pt-Rh and Pt-Au alloy crucible components. In this study, the surface microstructure, chemical and phase composition of the modified Li4SiO4 pebbles with different contents of the noble metals was analysed. The influence of the noble metals on the radiolysis was evaluated after irradiation with accelerated electrons (E = 5 MeV),…

Compaction of tungsten oxide films by ion-beam irradiation

1993

Abstract Evaporated amorphous tungsten oxide films with low densities, deposited on different substrates, have been irradiated with various types of ions of different energies up to 30 MeV, and with fluences up to 10 18 cm −2 . Compaction of the films up to nearly the bulk density was observed. No changes of the stoichiometry as determined by various ion-beam analysis techniques were detectable. Raman measurements showed that ion-beam-modified films are also amorphous, but have a different microstructure from as-deposited films. The irradiated films have a higher refractive index than the as-deposited films. A low threshold for the compaction effect of a few times 10 12 ions cm −2 was found…

Gas sensitive luminescence of ZnO coatings obtained by plazma electrolytic oxidation

2015

Abstract The ZnO coatings on Zn substrate were obtained using plasma electrolytic oxidation method. The XRD and SEM methods were used for structural and morphological characterization of obtained coatings. The luminescence of ZnO coatings were studied and compared with luminescence characteristics of ZnO single crystal. It is shown that luminescence intensity in ZnO defect band depends on oxygen concentration in ambient atmosphere. The effect is of interest for oxygen sensing based on ZnO coating luminescence.

Tunability by alkali metal cations of photoinduced charge separation in azacrown functionalized graphene.

2013

A modified graphene oxide containing aza-9-crown-3 ether units covalently anchored has been prepared; aqueous suspensions of this material in the presence of Li(+), Na(+) and K(+) cations exhibit enhanced electrochemical response, enhanced photoinduced charge separation and longer lifetimes, facts that can be attributed to stabilization of electrons on graphene oxide by the nearby alkali metal cation-azacrown complexes.

Novel metallic iron/manganese-zinc ferrite nanocomposites prepared by microwave hydrothermal flash synthesis

2011

8 Caillot, T. Pourroy, G. Stuerga, D.; Metallic iron (alpha-Fe)/manganese-zinc ferrite (Fe3-x-yMnxZnyO4) nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized for the first time using microwave hydrothermal treatment of alcoholic solutions of chloride precursors and sodium ethoxide. This new type of nanocomposites, never obtained by conventional synthesis, can now be produced in a short period (e.g. 15s). The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and magnetic properties were measured. In most cases, three classes of crystallites were observed; one of them is composed of grains of about 100 nm in size where the metal is inserted into the oxide. For all…

Modulation of the solubility of luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals through facile surface functionalization

2014

The solubility of luminescent quantum dots in solvents from hexane to water can be finely tuned by the choice of the countercations associated with carboxylate residues present on the nanocrystal surface. The resulting nanocrystals exhibit long term colloidal and chemical stability and maintain their photophysical properties.

Novel chemical reaction co-precipitation method for the synthesis of apatite-type lanthanum silicate as an electrolyte in SOFC

2017

Abstract Apatite-type lanthanum silicates have promising performance as electrolyte materials for IT-SOFC. A novel co-precipitation method, based on chemical reaction, is employed in the synthesis process. The reaction products: La(OH) 3 and SiO 2 are used as precursors of apatite synthesis process. The precursors are mixed in molecular scale which provide much conducive to formation reaction. The pure apatite phase composition is obtained with quite moderate temperature of 700 °C for 6 h which shows considerable ionic conductivity performance. The conductivity decreases when you increase the calcination temperature in according with XRD measurement. The XRD measurement shows the presence o…

Structural and electrical properties in tungsten/tungsten oxide multilayers

2014

International audience; Tungsten and tungsten oxide periodic nanometric multilayers have been deposited by DC reactive sputtering using the reactive gas pulsing process. Different pulsing periods have been used for each deposition to produce metal-oxide periodic alternations ranging from 3.3 to 71.5 nm. The morphology, crystallinity and chemical composition of these films have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. The produced multilayers exhibited an amorphous structure and the composition stability of WO3 sub-layers has been pointed out. Moreover, electrical properties have also been studied by the van der Pauw technique…

Multiscale modeling of polymers at interfaces

2009

A brief review of modeling and simulation methods for a study of polymers at interfaces is provided. When studying truly multiscale problems as provided by realistic polymer systems, coarse graining is practically unavoidable. In this process, degrees of freedom on smaller scales are eliminated to the favor of a model suitable for efficient study of the system behavior on larger length and time scales. We emphasize the need to distinguish between dynamic and static properties regarding the model validation. A model which accurately reproduces static properties may fail completely, when it comes to the dynamic behavior of the system. Furthermore, we comment on the use of Monte Carlo method i…

Molecular semiconductor-doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions: Oligothiophene/bisphtalocyanine (LuPc2) and perylene/bisphthalocyanine as new structu…

2010

Abstract The combination of a sexithiophene and a perylene diimide derivatives, as p-type and n-type materials, respectively, used as sub-layers, to an intrinsic semiconductor, namely the lutetium bisphthalocyanine, allows to obtain a new transducer for gas sensing. These transducers were called molecular semiconductor-doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions, were recently designed and reported, but with only phthalocyanines as active materials. p-Type material leads to MSDIs that exhibit a positive response to ozone and a negative response to ammonia, whereas MSDIs prepared from n-type material exhibit a positive response to ammonia and negative response to ozone. The remarkable point is th…
