La intensidad de lluvia en entornos mediterráneos. Valores extremos según la escala de observación

Este trabajo estudia la estructura de las intensidades máximas de lluvia a diferentes escalas de observación, entre los 5 minutos y las 24 horas, en la Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar, en base a datos del SAIH (1994-2007). Aborda además la influencia de los factores de altitud y distancia al mar, así como de la exposición del territorio: litoral-interior y compartimentación general del relieve. Los resultados muestran una gran dependencia de la intensidad en relación con la escala de observación, una influencia significativa de la distancia al mar y dos patrones de intensidad.
Temperature variability in the Iberian Range since 1602 inferred from tree-ring records

Abstract. Tree rings are an important proxy to understand the natural drivers of climate variability in the Mediterranean Basin and hence to improve future climate scenarios in a vulnerable region. Here, we compile 316 tree-ring width series from 11 conifer sites in the western Iberian Range. We apply a new standardization method based on the trunk basal area instead of the tree cambial age to develop a regional chronology which preserves high- to low-frequency variability. Abstract. The main assumption on which landslide susceptibility assessment by means of stochastic modelling lies is that the past is the key to the future. As a consequence, a stochastic model able to classify past known landslide events should be able to predict a future unknown scenario as well. Discharge estimation combining flow routing and occasional measurements of velocity

A new procedure is proposed for estimating river discharge hydrographs during flood events, using only water level data at a single gauged site, as well as 1-D shallow water modelling and occasional maximum surface flow velocity measurements. One-dimensional diffusive hydraulic model is used for routing the recorded stage hydrograph in the channel reach considering zero-diffusion downstream boundary condition. Analysis of the energy balance closure over a FLUXNET boreal forest in Finland

Abstract. The imbalance in the surface energy budget, when using eddy-covariance techniques to measure turbulent fluxes, is still an unresolved problem. Important progresses have been reported in recent years identifying potential reasons for this lack of energy balance closure. In this paper we focus on the data collected in a FLUXNET boreal forest site in Sodankylä, Finland. Using one month half-hourly data, an average Energy Balance Ratio (EBR) of 0.72 is obtained. The inclusion of the heat storage terms in the energy budget yields an improvement of about 6% in the total closure. Thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing of land-surface temperature (LST) provides valuable information about the sub-surface moisture status required for estimating evapotranspiration (ET) and detecting the onset and severity of drought.
