Existence of viscosity solutions to two-phase problems for fully nonlinear equations with distributed sources

In this paper we construct a viscosity solution of a two-phase free boundary problem for a class of fully nonlinear equation with distributed sources, via an adaptation of the Perron method. Our results extend those in [Caffarelli, 1988], [Wang, 2003] for the homogeneous case, and of [De Silva, Ferrari, Salsa, 2015] for divergence form operators with right hand side.

Validating the early childhood classroom observation measure in first and third grade classrooms

The present study reports on the psychometric properties of the Early Childhood Classroom Observation Measure (ECCOM) in Finnish and Estonian first and third grade classrooms. The observation data were collected from 91 first grade teachers and 70 third grade teachers. Teachers' curriculum goals, teaching experience and the classroom size were measured also. The results of confirmatory factor analysis provided evidence of the three-factor model (management, climate, and instruction) for each dimension—child-centred, teacher-directed, and child-dominated—in both grades. A Study on Engineering Freshman Conceptual Understanding of Newtonian Mechanics

Force concept inventory is a multiple-choice questionnaire commonly used to assess students’ conceptual understanding of Newtonian mechanics. We here show that a cluster analysis method can be used to study student answers to the force concept inventory to investigate their understanding of Newtonian mechanics and provide new insights into the use of the force concept inventory. On the limits to the long-period method in classical economics. A note

On a first reading of Theory of Production, Kurz & Salvadori (1995) appear to confine the empirical domain of the long-period models of the classical theory of value and distribution to stationary economies with non-constant returns to scale and to growing economies with constant returns to scale. Such a reading is shown to be untenable since it merges the two levels of exploring the extension of a model and of testing a theoretical hypothesis. Conversely, the way Kurz & Salvadori tackle the problems of price dynamics and returns to scale in growing economies is shown to be compatible with what appears to be Sraffa's (implicit) strategy of research.

Abstract The cultural heritage domain in general and silk textiles, in particular, are characterized by large, rich and heterogeneous data sets. Silk heritage vocabulary comes from multiple sources that have been mixed up across time and space. Recursive partitioning: an approach based on the weighted kemeny distance

In the framework of preference rankings, the interest can lie in finding which predictors and which interactions are able to explain the observed preference structures. The possibility to derive consensus measures using a classification tree represents a novelty and an important tool, given its easy interpretability. This work proposes the use of a univariate decision tree for ranking data based on the weighted Kemeny distance. The performance of the methodology will be shown by using a real dataset about university rankings.

This article concerns issues of classroom management in heterogeneous classrooms. Although research in the field of learning styles has yielded mixed results, there is a call for information about how they could be used to individualize instruction, especially in primary schools. Assessing the impact of copy number variants on miRNA genes in autism by Monte Carlo simulation.

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are childhood neurodevelopmental disorders with complex genetic origins. Previous studies have investigated the role of de novo Copy Number Variants (CNVs) and microRNAs as important but distinct etiological factors in ASD. We developed a novel computational procedure to assess the potential pathogenic role of microRNA genes overlapping de novo CNVs in ASD patients. Here we show that for chromosomes # 1, 2 and 22 the actual number of miRNA loci affected by de novo CNVs in patients was found significantly higher than that estimated by Monte Carlo simulation of random CNV events.
