A Thermophilic Tetramolecular G-Quadruplex/Hemin DNAzyme.

International audience; The quadruplex-based DNAzyme system is one of the most useful artificial enzymes or catalysts; their unique properties make them reliable alternatives to proteins for performing catalytic transformation. The first prototype of a thermally stable DNAzyme system is presented. This thermophilic DNAzyme is capable of oxidizing substrates at high temperatures (up to 95 degrees C) and long reaction times (up to 18 h at 75 degrees C). The catalytic activity of the DNAzymes were investigated with the standard peroxidase-mimicking oxidation of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) by H2O2. Abstract The molecular mechanism of the Bronsted acid (BA) catalysed Povarov reaction of N -phenyl- C -methoxycarbonyl imine with a methylenecyclopropane (MCP) has been investigated using DFT methods at the MPWB1K/6-31G(d) level. This BA catalysed Povarov reaction is a domino process initialised by the formation of a cationic intermediate which experiences a quick intramolecular Friedel–Crafts reaction yielding the final tetrahydroquinoline. Protonation of the imine nitrogen atom notably increases the electrophilicity of the corresponding species, accelerating the reaction through ionic processes. Elastic incoherent neutron scattering has been used to study the temperature dependence of the mean-square displacements of nonexchangeable hydrogen atoms in powders of a series of homomeric polypeptides (polyglycine, polyalanine, polyphenylalanine and polyisoleucine) in comparison with myoglobin at the same hydration level (h = 0.2). Metal ion complexation by tetraester derivatives of bridged calix [4] arenes

A series of bridged calix [4] arenes (5–10 methylene groups in the bridge) were synthesized and transformed into their tetraester derivatives by reaction with ethyl bromoacetate. The stability constants for complexes of the tetraester derivatives with sodium, potassium and silver cations, determined in methanol by spectroscopic or potentiometric techniques, show a drastic decrease (more than 105 for Na +) for the shorter methylene chains. 1H NMR studies demonstrate a conformational rearrangement of the calixarene part to fourfold symmetry to be necessary for the complexation of a cation, which is prevented by the shorter chains. Optically pure (1S,R)- and (1R,S)-benzyltetrahydroisoquinolines (BTHIQs), 12a,b as the major diastereomers, were prepared by stereoselective reduction of the isoquinolinium salt possessing (R)- and (S)-phenylglycinol as the chiral auxiliary, respectively. The absolute configurations of (1S,R)-13a hydrochloride (O-debenzoylated derivative from 12a) and (1R,S)-12b diastereomers were unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Reductive removal of the chiral auxiliary group, subsequent N-propylation, and cleavage of the methylenedioxy group furnished the optically active catecholamines (1S)-16a and (1R)-16b in good overall yield. Thermal degradation of novolac resins by pyrolysis-gas chromatography with a movable reaction zone

Abstract A previously described, a pyrolysis device with a movable reaction zone was used in the present work for thermal degradation of novolac resins. The products of thermal reactions were analysed by pyrolysis–GC. Owing to the heating of reaction zone to the maximal temperature of the chromatographic column, the high boiling pyrolysis products could be analysed. Bisphenols and trisphenols with aromatic rings coupled by methylene bridges and its methyl derivatives have been found among the compounds. The structure of the heavy pyrolysis products has been confirmed using GC–MS.

The reduction rates of horse heart ferricytochrome c by amalgamated zinc or by electrolysis at fixed potential on a mercury pool as the cathode have been measured in a buffered solution at pH 7.5 by absorption spectrophotometry. Abstract The gas chromatographic retention behaviour of methylethyl, 1-methylpropyl, 2-methylpropyl, 1,2-dimethylpropyl, 1-methylbutyl and 3-methylbutyl esters of benzoic and o-, m- and p-chlorobenzoic acids on low-polarity (SE-30) and polar (OV-351) capillary columns under several temperature-programmed and isothermal conditions is reported. The retention data and the Kovats retention indices for all 24 components are given and the separation of a complex mixture is discussed. The retention index increments have been used to examine the effects of chain branching and chlorine substitution. The results are compared with those for n-alkyl benzoates and monochlorobenzoates.

In the previous chapter the standard one step procedures for the synthesis of calixarenes from p-tert-butyl phenol and several p-alkyl phenols have been described. However, these procedures necessarily lead to calixarenes consisting of one single type of phenolic unit. This remains true even for those compounds in which all the terf-butyl groups are removed and replaced by other functional groups. The construction of more sophisticated, special calixarenes which could serve for instance as enzyme models, requires new synthetic approaches capable of producing molecules with selected functionalization.
