Background: The reuse of implant healing abutments is common in dental practice. Effective elimination of bacteria and viruses is accomplished by conventional sterilization. The aim of this work was to explore the eventual survival of microorganisms on sterilized healing abutments and to rule out the presence of transmissible organic material after standard procedures. Material and Methods: A total of 55 healing abutments previously used in patients will be washed and sterilized in a steam autoclave at 121oC for 15 min. Susceptibility of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to vibriosis due to Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2 (serovar E)

The present study documents the susceptibility of Nile tilapia to the experimental vibriosis caused by Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2 (serovar E) using a reference strain (Spanish Collection of Type Cultures, CECT 4604) selected for its high degree of virulence for eels. The biotype 1 of this species is one of the usual organisms involved in epizootics occurred in tilapia. After intraperitoneal injection, the selected strain developed a haemorrhagic septicaemia similar to eel vibriosis with a LD50 four log units lower than that exhibited by the type strain of the species, which belongs to the biotype 1. Pythium periplocum, an aggressive mycoparasite of Botrytis cinerea causing the gray mould disease of grape-vine.

Pythium periplocum Dreschler has been found to be an aggressive mycoparasite of Botrytis cinerea, the causal agent of the gray mould disease of the grape-vine. When grown together, the former enters the latter's mycelium, branches freely within, coagulates its cytoplasm and finally tears its hyphae apart, bringing about widespread destruction of the grape-vine pathogen. Extensive coiling around the host, as reported in the case of other mycoparasites belonging to the genus Pythium, has not been observed here. Abstract The present work was undertaken to investigate the survival of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19114T in soil during the whole crop cycle of rocket (Eruca sativa Mill.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), to monitor its transfer to the leaves, and to evaluate its viability at harvest. Development of  a qPCR assay for specific quantification of Botrytis cinerea on grapes

The aim of this study was to develop a system for rapid and accurate real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) identification and quantification of Botrytis cinerea , one of the major pathogens present on grapes. The intergenic spacer (IGS) region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA was used to specifically detect and quantify B. cinerea . A standard curve was established to quantify this fungus. Spent Coffee Grounds Extract, Rich in Mannooligosaccharides, Promotes a Healthier Gut Microbial Community in a Dose-Dependent Manner.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages around the world, and as a consequence, spent coffee grounds are a massively produced residue that is causing environmental problems. Reusing them is a major focus of interest presently. We extracted mannooligosaccharides (MOS) from spent coffee grounds and submitted them to an in vitro fermentation with human feces. Results obtained suggest that MOS are able to exert a prebiotic effect on gut microbiota by stimulating the growth of some beneficial genera, such as Barnesiella, Odoribacter, Coprococcus, Butyricicoccus, Intestinimonas, Pseudoflavonifractor, and Veillonella.
