Implementation of participatory sensing approach in mobile vehicle based sensor networks

2013

In this paper author describes his research with the goal to develop and experimentally verify specific data recording and processing methodologies based on participatory sensing approach implementation in mobile vehicle based sensor networks. To reach this goal, author performed study of literature, testing of hypothesis using general purpose computer devices, adaptation of smartphones for participatory sensing, development of special purpose embedded devices, practical experiments with selected technical equipment and software as well as gathering of experimental results and following statistical analysis. The result of this research are several data acquisition and processing methodologi…

Deviance sensitivity in the auditory cortex of freely moving rats.

2018

Deviance sensitivity is the specific response to a surprising stimulus, one that violates expectations set by the past stimulation stream. In audition, deviance sensitivity is often conflated with stimulus-specific adaptation (SSA), the decrease in responses to a common stimulus that only partially generalizes to other, rare stimuli. SSA is usually measured using oddball sequences, where a common (standard) tone and a rare (deviant) tone are randomly intermixed. However, the larger responses to a tone when deviant does not necessarily represent deviance sensitivity. Deviance sensitivity is commonly tested using a control sequence in which many different tones serve as the standard, eliminat…

Microphones’ Directivity for the Localization of Sound Sources

2011

In a recent paper [P. Rizzo, G. Bordoni, A. Marzani, and J. Vipperman, "Localization of Sound Sources by Means of Unidirectional Microphones, Meas. Sci. Tech., 20, 055202 (12pp), 2009] the proof-of-concept of an approach for the localization of acoustic sources was presented. The method relies on the use of unidirectional microphones and amplitude-based signals' features to extract information about the direction of the incoming sound. By intersecting the directions identified by a pair of microphones, the position of the emitting source can be identified. In this paper we expand the work presented previously by assessing the effectiveness of the approach for the localization of an acoustic…

Time Difference of Arrival Estimation from Frequency-Sliding Generalized Cross-Correlations Using Convolutional Neural Networks

2020

The interest in deep learning methods for solving traditional signal processing tasks has been steadily growing in the last years. Time delay estimation (TDE) in adverse scenarios is a challenging problem, where classical approaches based on generalized cross-correlations (GCCs) have been widely used for decades. Recently, the frequency-sliding GCC (FS-GCC) was proposed as a novel technique for TDE based on a sub-band analysis of the cross-power spectrum phase, providing a structured two-dimensional representation of the time delay information contained across different frequency bands. Inspired by deep-learning-based image denoising solutions, we propose in this paper the use of convolutio…
