The integrated analytical approach developed in this study offers a powerful methodology for the structural characterisation of complex molecular nanomaterials. Structures of a covalent organic framework based on boronate esters (COF-5) and a conjugated microporous polymer (Aza-CMP) have been investigated by a combination of several electron microscopy techniques elucidating the three-dimensional topology of the complex polycrystalline (COF) and non-crystalline (CMP) materials. Microporosity may account for as much as 95% of the total porosity of hydrocarbon and water reservoirs in Cretaceous limestones of the Arabian Gulf. In these microporous facies porosity is moderate to excellent (up to 35%) while permeability is poor to moderate (up to 190mD). Conversely, microporous facies may form dense inter-reservoir or cap rock layers with very low porosity and permeability values (2–8% and 0.01–2mD, respectively). The presence of organic structure directing agents (templates) in the synthesis of zeolites allows the synthesis to be directed, in many cases, toward structures in which there is a large stabilization between the template and the zeolite micropore due to dispersion interactions. Magnesium Exchanged Zirconium Metal−Organic Frameworks with Improved Detoxification Properties of Nerve Agents

UiO-66, MOF-808 and NU-1000 metal-organic frameworks exhibit a differentiated reactivity toward [Mg(OMe)2(MeOH)2]4 related to their pore accessibility. Microporous UiO-66 remains unchanged while mesoporous MOF-808 and hierarchical micro/mesoporous NU-1000 materials yield doped systems containing exposed MgZr5O2(OH)6 clusters in the mesoporous cavities. This modification is responsible for a remarkable enhancement of the catalytic activity toward the hydrolytic degradation of P-F and P-S bonds of toxic nerve agents, at room temperature, in unbuffered aqueous solutions.
Synthesis and Structure Determination of the Hierarchical Meso-Microporous Zeolite ITQ-43

[EN] The formation of mesopores in microporous zeolites is generally performed by postsynthesis acid, basic, and steam treatments. The hierarchical pore systems thus formed allow better adsorption, diffusion, and reactivity of these materials. By combining organic and inorganic structure-directing agents and high-throughput methodologies, we were able to synthesize a zeolite with a hierarchical system of micropores and mesopores, with channel openings delimited by 28 tetrahedral atoms. Its complex crystalline structure was solved with the use of automated diffraction tomography.
Structural Changes in Nanoporous MFI Zeolites Induced by Tetrachloroethene Adsorption: A Joint Experimental and Simulation Study

A joint experimental and molecular simulation study was performed to investigate the adsorption of tetrachloroethene on two MFI zeolites, ZSM-5 with a Si/Al ratio of 26.5, and silicalite-1, which is the pure silica form of ZSM-5. Adsorption isotherms and isosteric heats of adsorption of tetrachloroethene were measured and compared to molecular simulation results. Experimental curves for both MFI zeolites show a step at loading of 4 molecules·uc−1 that was interpreted in terms of a structural change of the host framework. Water intrusion-extrusion in hydrophobic microporous AFI, IFR, MTW and TON pure silica zeolites (zeosils) has been investigated through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It was found that intruded water volumes correlate with the free volume of the zeosil unit cells. Calculated adsorption isotherms allowed us to estimate the amounts of water intruded, and deviations from experiments (lower experimental with respect to calculated intrusion pressures) have been;explained in terms of connectivity defects in the synthesized materials. Das chemische Schalten des Magnetismus in zwei Richtungen wurde in einem mikroporosen Koordinationspolymer mit Spin-Crossover-Einheiten beobachtet. M. Ohba, J. A. Real, S. Kitagawa und Mitarbeiter stellten in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 4861 ff. magnetische Messungen vor, die belegen, dass die meisten Gastmolekule einen Ubergang des Netzwerks vom diamagnetischen Low-Spin- (rot) in den paramagnetischen High-Spin-Zustand (gelb) bewirken. Allein CS2 stabilisiert den Low-Spin-Zustand. Die induzierten Spinzustande werden auch nach Freisetzung der Gastspezies beibehalten.
