Preparation and characterization of (Hg0.7Mo0.3)Sr2(Ca0.7Y0.3)Cu2Ox and (Hg0.9Re0.1)Ba2CaCu2Oy superconducting films by laser ablation

2000

Abstract Oriented (Hg 0.7 Mo 0.3 )Sr 2 (Ca 0.7 Y 0.3 )Cu 2 O x and (Hg 0.9 Re 0.1 )Ba 2 CaCu 2 O y superconducting films were prepared on SrTiO 3 substrates using laser ablation and post-Hg-vapor annealing. Due to the stability of Mo 0.3 Sr 2 (Ca 0.7 Y 0.3 )Cu 2 O x and Re 0.1 Ba 2 CaCu 2 O y in air, no special handling was needed during the grinding, mixing and pressing of the precursor targets. The superconductivity of the films was characterized with the temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility ( χ - T ) and the resistance ( R - T ) while the crystallography was probed with x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Effect of film thickness on the transport properties of MgB2 synthesized by spray pyrolysis

2011

Abstract Polycrystalline MgB2 films of different thickness have been prepared by employing spray pyrolysis technique on MgO (1 0 0) substrate. The MgB2 and other phases have been confirmed using X-ray diffraction technique and no trace of impurities phases have been found. The resistivity behavior shows that the superconducting transition temperature lies in the range of 37–39 K with narrow transition width. The transport critical current density vary with films thickness and achieved highest value ∼1.2 × 106 A/cm2 at 20 K for 2.0 μm thick film and its values increase as thickness increases.

Proximity Effects on the Charge Density Wave Order and Superconductivity in Single-Layer NbSe2

2021

Collective electronic states such as the charge density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity (SC) respond sensitively to external perturbations. Such sensitivity is dramatically enhanced in two dimensions (2D), where 2D materials hosting such electronic states are largely exposed to the environment. In this regard, the ineludible presence of supporting substrates triggers various proximity effects on 2D materials that may ultimately compromise the stability and properties of the electronic ground state. In this work, we investigate the impact of proximity effects on the CDW and superconducting states in single-layer (SL) NbSe2 on four substrates of diverse nature, namely, bilayer graphene…

Quantum phase slips in superconducting Nb nanowire networks deposited on self-assembled Si templates

2012

Robust porous silicon substrates were employed for generating interconnected networks of superconducting ultrathin Nb nanowires. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was performed to investigate the morphology of the samples, which constitute of polycrystalline single wires with grain size of about 10 nm. The samples exhibit nonzero resistance over a broad temperature range below the critical temperature, fingerprint of phase slippage processes. The transport data are satisfactory reproduced by models describing both thermal and quantum fluctuations of the superconducting order parameter in thin homogeneous superconducting wires.

Comparison among superconducting models for β″-ET4[(H3O)Fe(C2O4)3]·C6H5Br single crystals by scanning tunnelling spectroscopy

2008

Single crystals of the novel superconductor beta ''-(BEDT-TTF)(4)[(H3O)Fe(C2O4)(3)]center dot C6H5Br charge-transfer salt were studied using a scanning tunnelling microscope. The measured samples have an onset critical temperature of about 4.0 K. Features often reported on similar compounds were observed in the tunnelling spectra at 1.4 K. STS spectra are compared with several models for the superconducting density of states. Our analysis evidences inhomogeneous superconductivity and indicates that the presence of a magnetic layer into the sample plays a role in determining the superconducting spectroscopic features. Field dependence of the vortex core size probed by scanning tunneling microscopy

2016

We study the spatial distribution of the density of states (DOS) at zero bias N(r) in the mixed state of single and multigap superconductors. We provide an analytic expression for N(r) based on deGennes' relationship between DOS and the order parameter that reproduces well scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) data in several superconducting materials. In the single gap superconductor β-Bi2Pd, we find that N(r) is governed by a length scale ξH=φ0/2πH, which decreases in rising fields. The vortex core size C, defined via the slope of the order parameter at the vortex center, C (dΔ/dr|r→0)-1, differs from ξH by a material dependent numerical factor. The new data on the tunneling conductance and…

Growth characteristics of sputter-deposited thin films

1996

Thin films of the heavy-fermion superconductor were deposited on various substrate materials in various orientations by means of a quasi-multilayer sputter process. Strongly (0001)-textured growth of the hexagonal compound was found for a uranium content in the range of 23% to 28% on sapphire and with perfect in-plane order on the latter substrate material. Atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy revealed a Vollmer - Weber-like growth mode resulting in the development of large compressive strain in films on . As a result the electronic transport properties - in particular the temperature dependence of the resistivity - were strongly renormalized. Strong deviations from the …

Optical near-field microscopy of light focusing through a photonic crystal flat lens

2008

We report here the direct observation by using a scanning near-field microscopy technique of the light focusing through a photonic crystal flat lens designed and fabricated to operate at optical frequencies. The lens is fabricated using a III-V semiconductor slab, and we directly visualize the propagation of the electromagnetic waves by using a scanning near-field optical microscope. We directly evidence spatially, as well as spectrally, the focusing operating regime of the lens. At last, in light of the experimental scanning near-field optical microscope pictures, we discuss the lens ability to focus light at a subwavelength scale.
