CONSTRUCTIONS, FRAMES, CARTOGRAPHIES MENTALES.: ESQUISSE D'UNE MÉTHODE POUR LA REPRÉSENTATION ET LA TRANSMISSION DE CONNAISSANCES EN COURS DE LANGUES…

2020

International audience; In the last three decades the linguistic innovation has brought two main theoretical tools that are fully functional: the construction grammar and the frame semantics. The present work makes a proposal to unite both frameworks in order to exploit their respective contribution in a pedagogical perspective in foreign language classes. The aim is (i) to operationalize the theoretical junction, and (ii) to propose to exploit it by using mind maps, which elaboration is based on the observation of the speech praxis.

PASSIONATE DESCARTES: A REINTERPRETATION OF THE BODY'S ROLE IN CARTESIAN THOUGHT

2020

Abstract The usual reading of Descartes' “anthropological” perspective classifies it as a radical dualism with a distinction between two substances, mind and body, which experience major interaction difficulties. Through a contextualization of Descartes' physiological and psychological thought as well as through a less fragmented reading of his work, we intend to review this traditional interpretation, thereby showing its distorted character. When we pay attention to passion, a new Descartes’ image as a sort of phenomenal monism appears, which is markedly different from the legendary image typically associated with him, even today.

Descartes’ Notion of the Mind–Body Union and its Phenomenological Expositions

2018

The chapter clarifies the connections between Descartes’ discussion of the mind–body union and classical phenomenology of embodiment, as developed by Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. It argues that the perplexing twofoldness of Descartes’ account of the mind–body union—interactionistic on the one hand, and holistic on the other—can be explicated and made coherent by phenomenological analyses of the two different attitudes that we can take toward human beings: the naturalistic and the personalistic. In the naturalistic attitude, the human being is understood as a two-layered psycho-physical complex, in which mental states and faculties are founded on the material basis of the body. In the personal…

Healthy Lifestyle, Well-being, Physical Activity, Sport, and Scholastic/academic Performance: Interactions and Connections

2019

The physical activity and sport are key elements for a healthy lifestyle. However, a little-investigated element is the presence of a possible relationship between school or academic performance and the participation in physical activity and sport in groups of preadolescents and adolescents. In order to clarify the complex relationship between mind and body in preadolescence and adolescence, the present discussion investigates the causal and direct relationship between sport activity and performance; and describes how this relationship can be mediated by the sense of self-esteem and self-efficacy; and investigates the relationship between group sports practice and school or academic perform…

The effects of computer-based mindfulness training on Self-control and Mindfulness within Ambulatorily assessed network Systems across Health-related…

2016

Background Self-control is an important ability in everyday life, showing associations with health-related outcomes. The aim of the Self-control and Mindfulness within Ambulatorily assessed network Systems across Health-related domains (SMASH) study is twofold: first, the effectiveness of a computer-based mindfulness training will be evaluated in a randomized controlled trial. Second, the SMASH study implements a novel network approach in order to investigate complex temporal interdependencies of self-control networks across several domains. Methods The SMASH study is a two-armed, 6-week, non-blinded randomized controlled trial that combines seven weekly laboratory meetings and 40 days of e…

Il modello Brain-based e gli Habits of mind per potenziare la competenza linguistico-comunicativa nei futuri docenti. The Brain-based Model and the H…

2017

Attraver…

THE HABITS OF MIND AND THE BRAIN GYM FOR ENHANCEMENT OF TEACHERS’ COMMUNICATIVE-TEACHING COMPETENCE

2021

The hints offered both by Neuroeducation research and by the theories on the mind, within the national scientific debate, encourage reflection on possible ways of implementing the teaching / learning process. Communicative teaching approaches such the Brain-based ones, with particular reference to ‘Brain-gym’ (Mac Lean, 1975, Dennison, 2010) and educational activities aimed at developing the Habits of Mind (Costa & Kallick, 2008) are the keynotes of the present research, carried out with 385 secondary school teachers working in the province of Caltanissetta during the school year 2020/2021. Through the research process we wanted to verify the validity of the Brain-based model in order t…
