A mesh less approch based upon Radial basis function Hermite collocation method for predicting the cooling and the freezing times of foods
2005
This work presents a meshless numerical scheme for the solution of time dependent non linear heat transfer problems in terms of a radial basis function Hermite collocation approach. The proposed scheme is applied to foodstuff's samples during freezing process; evaluation of the time evolution of the temperature profile along the sample, as well as at the core, is carried out. The moving phase-change zone is identified in the domain and plotted at several timesteps. The robustness of the proposed scheme is tested by a comparison of the obtained numerical results with those found using a Finite Volume Method and with experimental results.
On MR Differential with Limited Slip
2014
Design of a magnetorheological (MR) sports car differential is presented in this paper, with the aim of the total mass reduction and the torque maintenance. The torque output is controlled by adjusting the applied magnetic field. The nominal output torque of the differential is derived by using Bingham plastic constitutive model; the choice of the materials occurs to minimize the thickness of the circuit, but preliminary sizing based on electromagnetic theory does not lead to satisfactory results. Electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to estimate the effective distribution of the magnetic field. The shear stress distribution in MR Fluid is theoretically predicted using …
Color Correction for Image Stitching by Monotone Cubic Spline Interpolation
2015
This paper proposes a novel color correction scheme for image stitching where the color map transfer is modelled by a monotone Hermite cubic spline and smoothly propagated into the target image. A three-segments monotone cubic spline minimizing color distribution statistics and gradient differences with respect to both the source and target images is used. While the spline model can handle non-linear color maps, the minimization over the gradient differences limits strong alterations on the image structure. Adaptive heuristics are introduced to reduce the minimization search space and thus computational time. Experimental comparisons with respect to the state-of-the-art linear mapping model…
Real-Time Object Detection in Embedded Video Surveillance Systems
2008
In this paper we report a new method to detect both moving objects and new stationary objects in video sequences. On the basis of temporal consideration we classify pixels into three classes: background, midground and foreground to distinguish between long-term, medium-term and short-term changes. The algorithm has been implemented on a hardware platform with limited resources and it could be used in a wider system like a wireless sensor networks. Particular care has been put in realizing the algorithm so that the limited available resources are used in an efficient way. Experiments have been conducted on publicly available datasets and performance measures are reported.

The purpose of the paper is to investigate ultradistributions of both Beurling and Roumieu (briefly, B and R) types with the help of a sequential approach, considering certain equivalence classes of fundamental sequences of smooth functions defined by ultradifferential operators. More precisely, the authors define as s-ultradistributions the equivalence classes U(t) and U{t} of B and R types respectively on test functions belonging respectively to D′(t)(Ω) and D′{t}(Ω) on the open set Ω⊂Rn, and T(t), T{t}, T~(t) and T~{t} of (tempered) t- and t~-distributions, and study their properties. Finally, the authors prove the existence of topological isomorphism between the classes T(t), T{t}, T~(t…
"Corporate governance": approcci manageriali ed etici a confronto
2009
Self-Enforcing, Public-Order Institutions for Contract Enforcement: Litigation, Regulation, and Limited Government in Venice, 1050–1350
2011
The spectacular economic growth of Venice during the late medieval period (1050–1350) was based on the expansion of its trade along the Mediterranean and beyond. Crucial to this expansion was the mobilization of large amounts of capital into risky investments. However, this mobilization required the development of institutions that protected creditors and shareholders from expropriation by controlling merchants. This chapter finds that legal and administrative institutions conjointly provided investor protection and explores the interactions between these public-order institutions for contract enforcement and the emergence of a limited government, a coercion-constraining institution that mo…
