Defining Kawasaki disease and pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection during SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in…

2021

Abstract Background There is mounting evidence on the existence of a Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection (PIMS-TS), sharing similarities with Kawasaki Disease (KD). The main outcome of the study were to better characterize the clinical features and the treatment response of PIMS-TS and to explore its relationship with KD determining whether KD and PIMS are two distinct entities. Methods The Rheumatology Study Group of the Italian Pediatric Society launched a survey to enroll patients diagnosed with KD (Kawasaki Disease Group – KDG) or KD-like (Kawacovid Group - KCG) disease between February 1st 2020, and May 31st 2020. Demographic, clini…

Preparation and Investigation of BaSO4KMnO4 Crystals

1969

BaSO4 crystals containing KMnO4 prepared by precipitation were investigated morphologically, chemically and by X-ray diffraction. The colour of the preparations is homogeneous and stable. The colour intensity and also the amount of dissolved KMnO4 (maximum approx. 30 Mol%) increases with concentration of KMnO4 in the reaction solution to a limiting value dependent on the temperature. The lattice constants or the unit cell volume of the BaSO4–KMnO4 crystals increase with the proportion of KMnO4. The experimental values agree well with the Vegard rule for preparations up to 18 Mol% KMnO4, but with higher proportions significant departures were observed. They may easily be explained by adsorpt…

Vicent Blasco Ibáñez: antisemitisme entre tarongers

2018

Circuit proposals for high-voltage latching current limiters

2019

This work discusses some ideas to adapt existing low voltage Latching Current Limiter (LCL) circuits to high voltage operation to provide a basis for future designs. Component selection, driver and ancillary power supply are key issues discussed which eventually provides a high-voltage LCL proposal. Experimental validation of two different prototypes (380Vdc and 1kVdc) is included as well as some digital techniques to enhance LCL capabilities.

A New Method for Measuring the Oxygen Content in Microliter Samples of Gases and Liquids: The Oxygen Cuvette

1978

Gas analytical processes for the determination of oxygen content or concentration are based partly on physical principles (e.g. mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, paramagnetic methods) and partly on chemical methods (e.g. gasometric, titrimetric, electrochemical or photometric methods).

Treponema isoptericolens sp. nov., a novel spirochaete from the hindgut of the termite Incisitermes tabogae.

2008

A novel spirochaete, Treponema sp. strain SPIT5T, was isolated from hindgut contents of the drywood termite Incisitermes tabogae (Snyder). The cells of strain SPIT5T were motile, helical in shape, 0.4-0.5 microm in diameter and generally 12-20 microm long. The strain is obligately anaerobic and ferments different mono-, di- and oligosaccharides by forming ethanol as the main liquid fermentation end product. Furthermore, strain SPIT5T was able to grow anaerobically with yeast extract as sole carbon and energy source. Fastest growth was obtained at 30 degrees C, the temperature at which the termites were also grown. The optimum pH for growth was 7.2, with a range of pH 6.5-8.0. The cells poss…

Streptococcus lactarius sp. nov., isolated from breast milk of healthy women.

2011

Three strains of a hitherto-unknown, Gram-stain-positive coccus were recovered from the milk of three non-related healthy women. The isolates shared 99% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with sequences from uncultured members of the Lactobacillales and Streptococcus. The closest sequence corresponding to a defined species was that of Streptococcus peroris GTC 848T, with a similarity of 98%. A partial sequence (488 bp) of the tuf gene also showed 97% similarity with that of S. peroris CCUG 39814T. The combined 16S rRNA/tuf-based phylogeny revealed that all the isolates grouped in a statistically well-supported cluster separate from S. peroris. Enzyme activity profiles as well as fermentation…
