Fine Mapping of Gene Ordering by Elongated Chromosome Methods

2006

Publisher Summary Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can be used to localize specific DNA sequences on metaphase chromosomes, interphase nuclei, and experimentally extended DNA or chromatin fibers. Depending on the hybridization target, FISH techniques show widely different levels of DNA resolution. Mechanically stretched or elongated chromosomes fill the resolution gap between metaphase FISH and fiber FISH, allowing the rapid and straightforward ordering and localization of clones along the length of an entire chromosome with a 100- to 200-kb resolution. Although various genome projects have provided very high-resolution physical maps of human and important animal genomes, FISH is s…

Preparation and karyotype analysis of mitotic chromosomes of the freshwater sponge Spongilla lacustris.

1993

The present study documents for the first time the karyotype and mitotic chromosomes of a sponge. For the studies the freshwater sponge Spongilla lacustris (Lin. 1758) was used. Its karyotype comprises nine different chromosome pairs ranging in size from 2.1 to < or = 0.7 microns. Changes in size and shape of the chromosomes during the progression of mitosis are documented both light and electron microscopically. The data reveal that the lowest multicellular eukaryotes, the sponges, have already reached a high level of evolution of the mitotic mechanism.

Clear cell variant of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor: case report with immunohistochemical findings

2015

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a rare benign odontogenic neoplasm, locally aggressive, characterized by sheets and nests of polyhedral epithelial cells exhibiting eosinophilic cytoplasm or less often clear cytoplasm. Additional features include nuclear pleomorphism without mitotic activity, concentric calcifications, and deposits of amyloid. Herein, we present an additional example of clear cell variant of CEOT occurring in a 25-year-old female. Microscopically, the tumor consisted on proliferation of epithelial cells with eosinophilic, clear vacuolated cytoplasm interspersed with focal areas of amyloid deposition. Tumor cells were immunopositive for AE1/AE3, CK14, CK19, …

The following research wo…

Synthesis, antiproliferative activity, and in silico insights of new 3-benzoylamino-benzo[ b ]thiophene derivatives

2014

A new series of 3-benzoylamino-5-imidazol-5-yl-benzo[b]thiophenes and the parent amino derivatives were synthesized and screened as antitumor agents. All tested compounds showed concentration-dependent antiproliferative activity profile against HeLa cell line, exhibiting GI50 values in the low micromolar range. The most active compounds were tested in cell cycle perturbation experiments. A rapid accumulation of cells in the G2/M phase, with a concomitant reduction of cells in both the S and G0/G1 phases, was observed, suggesting that cell exposure to selected derivatives produces mitotic failure. To rationalize the biological results, the 3-benzoylamino-benzo[b]thiophenes were analyzed thro…
