Observations of boundary layer, mixed-phase and multi-layer Arctic clouds with different lidar systems during ASTAR 2007
2009
Abstract. During the Arctic Study of Tropospheric Aerosol, Clouds and Radiation (ASTAR), which was conducted in Svalbard in March and April 2007, tropospheric Arctic clouds were observed with two ground-based backscatter lidar systems (micro pulse lidar and Raman lidar) and with an airborne elastic lidar. An increase in low-level (cloud tops below 2.5 km) cloud cover from 51% to 65% was observed above Ny-Ålesund during the time of the ASTAR campaign. Four different case studies of lidar cloud observations are analyzed: With the ground-based Raman lidar, a pre-condensation layer was observed at an altitude of 2 km. The layer consisted of small droplets with a high number concentration (aroun…
The behaviour of non consumer of organic food: suggestions on marketing strategies to attract new market segments
2013
Two -methods to generate Bézier surfaces from the boundary
2009
Two methods to generate tensor-product Bezier surface patches from their boundary curves and with tangent conditions along them are presented. The first one is based on the tetraharmonic equation: we show the existence and uniqueness of the solution of @D^4x->=0 with prescribed boundary and adjacent to the boundary control points of a nxn Bezier surface. The second one is based on the nonhomogeneous biharmonic equation @D^2x->=p, where p could be understood as a vectorial load adapted to the C^1-boundary conditions.
T cell-mediated cytotoxicity: discrimination between antigen recognition, lethal hit and cytolysis phase.
1974
Using a 51Cr release cytotoxicity assay, the cytotoxic effector phase of in vitro activated mouse T lymphocytes (killer cells) against 51Cr-labeled target cells has been investigated. It is shown that within 5–10 minutes of contact between killer cells and target cells, the target cells are already committed to lysis, therefore, antigen recognition and “lethal hit” must have taken place within this period of time. In contrast, target cell lysis (cytolysis phase) requires up to 3–4 h in order to be completed; it occurs independently of killer cells and it is highly temperature dependent. The killer cell-dependent phase (antigen-recognition and “lethal hit”) is dissociated into two consecutiv…
Design methodology for submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactors (AnMBR): A case study
2015
[EN] The main objective of this study is to propose guidelines for designing submerged anaerobic MBR (AnMBR) technology for municipal wastewater treatment. The design methodology was devised on the basis of simulation and experimental results from an AnMBR plant featuring industrial-scale hollow-fibre membranes. The proposed methodology aims to minimise both capital expenditure and operating expenses, and the key parameters considered were: hydraulic retention time, solids retention time, mixed liquor suspended solids concentration in the membrane tank, 20 C-standardised critical flux, specificgas demand per square metre of membrane area, and flow of sludge being recycled from the membrane …
CD4 monoclonal antibody VIT4 in human alloimmune response in vitro and in vivo.
1996
In the present report the immunosuppressive effects of the murine anti-human CD4 monoclonal antibody (mAb) VIT4 on human alloimmune response in vitro were analyzed. Moreover, the antibody was tested for its activity to prolong allograft survival in seven patients with steroid-refractory allograft rejection. VIT4 inhibited the proliferative response to alloantigens in the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) in a dose-dependent manner. At concentrations of 1 and 10 micrograms/ml VIT4 blocked MLR by 55 +/- 11% and 77 +/- 1%, respectively. Also alloantigen-specific proliferation of in vitro- generated memory T cells was dose-dependently reduced to 23 +/- 1% at a VIT4 concentration of 100 micrograms…
Tcgfiii/p40 is produced by naive murine cd4+ t cells but is not a general t cell growth factor*
1989
Several antigen-specific T cell lines were found to secrete a lymphokine upon activation by antigen or lectin that was provisionally termed T cell growth factor III (TCGF III) because it induced the proliferation of a CD4+ T cell clone independently from IL2 and IL4. Amino acid sequence analysis (and the functional properties of TCGF III) revealed that TCGF III was identical with a recently identified lymphokine termed P40. TCGF III/P40 was not only produced by long-term cultured T cell lines but also upon stimulation of freshly isolated Mlsa-reactive T cells. In addition, naive CD4+ T cells secreted TCGF III/P40 upon activation by lectin or allo-major histocompatibility complex structures.…
B7-1 and B7-2 act differentially in the induction of a T cell response: their impact for a HLA-matched and HLA-mismatched anti-tumor immunotherapy.
2005
The efficacy of T cell-based immunotherapy is primarily due to efficient cellular activation that requires the engagement of 2 separate signals, i.e., via the T cell receptor complex and via co-stimulatory molecules the prototype of which is CD28. In cellular activation, the CD28 ligands B7-1 (CD80) and B7-2 (CD86) are thought to play nearly identical roles in T cell activation. We monitored the T cell response upon co-culture with HLA Class I-matched and mismatched renal carcinoma cells, respectively, that express different levels of B7-1 and B7-2, respectively. In a HLA Class I-mismatched co-culture, T cell proliferation, IFN-γ and GM-CSF secretion equally depend on the levels of B7-1 and…

Presence on a human melanoma of multiple antigens recognized by autologous CTL.
1989
We derived from blood lymphocytes of a melanoma patient a large number of cytolytic T-cell clones directed against a cell line of the autologous tumor. Three distinct groups of antigens were recognized by these CTL on the autologous melanoma cells: group A consisted of stable antigens present on all sublines, whereas antigens B and C appeared unstable and were expressed by distinct sublines. In vitro immunoselections with various anti-A CTL clones were applied to the melanoma cells and variants resistant to 3 different CTL clones were obtained. These variants remained sensitive to other anti-A CTL clones, indicating that group A comprises at least 4 different antigens (D, E, F and A'). From…
