Phase-conjugate emission of a two-mirror solid state laser

We show that phase conjugation strongly contributes to the emission of a solid state laser in a two-mirror (Fabry-Perot) resonator , enabling dynamic correction of thermal lensing . Full correction of thermal effects is reached by vector phase conjugation .

Flow velocity profile and turbulence characteristics in a vegetated straight flume

Vegetation affects the hydrodynamic conditions of an open channel flow with direct implications in physical and biophysical processes. In this paper, the vertical flow velocity distribution of a vegetated flow has been analyzed using experimental data collected in a straight flume. The experimental velocity distributions are positively compared with the hyperbolic tangent profile of a pure mixing layer previously verified by Ghisalberti and Nepf (2002). Subphotospheric convection and magnetic activity dependence on metallicity and age: Models and tests

We present an extensive study on the dependence of the convective turnover time (conv) on the stellar metallicity and age for main-sequence stars of masses 0.6{1.6 M. To this aim we have used and compared predictions by stellar models based on the classical Mixing Length Theory and models incorporating a Full Spectrum of Turbulence treatment of subphotospheric convection. We show that the metallicity eect is relevant for dG stars but negligible for dK stars, while stellar age is important when computing the turnover times for red dwarfs younger than logt 8:5 yr. A novel bi-layered multiphasic scaffold (BLS) have been fabricated for the first time by combining melt mixing, compression molding and particulate leaching. One layer has been composed by polylactic acid (PLA) presenting pore size in the range of 90-110µm while the other layer has been made of polycaprolactone (PCL) with pores ranging from 5 to 40µm. International audience; Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) at the surface and canopy levels are major issues in urban planification and development. For this reason, the comprehension and quantification of the influence that the different land-uses/land-covers have on UHIs is of particular importance. Search forD0−D¯0mixing using doubly flavor tagged semileptonic decay modes

We have searched for D0-D0 mixing in D*+→π+D0 decays with D0→K(*)eν in a sample of e+e-→cc events produced near 10.58 GeV. The charge of the slow pion from charged D* decay tags the charm flavor at production, and it is required to be consistent with the flavor of a fully reconstructed second charm decay in the same event. We observe 3 mixed candidates compared to 2.85 background events expected from simulation. We ascribe a 50% systematic uncertainty to this expected background rate. We find a central value for the mixing rate of 0.4×10-4. Using a frequentist method, we set corresponding 68% and 90% confidence intervals at (-5.6,7.4)×10-4 and (-13,12)×10-4, respectively. © 2007 The America…

Based on an 87-fb{sup -1} data set collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory, a search for D{sup 0}-D-bar{sup 0} mixing has been made using the semileptonic decay modes D*{sup +}{yields}{pi}{sup +}D{sup 0}, D{sup 0}{yields}K{sup (}*{sup )}e{nu} (+c.c.). The use of these modes allows unambiguous flavor tagging and a combined fit of the D{sup 0} decay time and D*{sup +}-D{sup 0} mass difference ({delta}M) distributions. The high-statistics sample of unmixed semileptonic D{sup 0} decays is used to model the {delta}M distribution and time dependence of mixed events directly from the data.
