Information Exchange in Mobile Encounter Network

2007

In this paper we analyze an information exchange method based on information diffusion in mobile encounter networks, a form of mobile peer-to-peer networks. We utilize dual mobility model which provides support for more realistic simulations compared to mobility models based only one method of movement. The distribution of the mobile device encounter intervals are discussed and analyzed via simulation runs. The logistic model is suggested to provide reasonably accurate estimates of the information diffusion process.

News Consumption in the Mobile Era

2014

Mobile devices allow users to keep ubiquitously connected to the internet. Consequently, they change the reception of information by faster access, greater timeliness, and new media usage contexts. At the same time, many traditional media organizations already produce content for mobile websites and apps in line with cross-media strategies. Reflecting severe structural changes in the journalism market, they are hoping to manage the digital transition successfully by mobile publishing, (re)gaining especially the digital natives. Referring to the media repertoire approach, we examine the role of mobile devices on two different levels. First, from a technical point of view, we consider the pla…

Mobile Interface for Content-Based Image Management

2010

People make more and more use of digital image acquisition devices to capture screenshots of their everyday life. The growing number of personal pictures raise the problem of their classification. Some of the authors proposed an automatic technique for personal photo album management dealing with multiple aspects (i. e., people, time and background) in a homogenous way. In this paper we discuss a solution that allows mobile users to remotely access such technique by means of their mobile phones, almost from everywhere, in a pervasive fashion. This allows users to classify pictures they store on their devices. The whole solution is presented, with particular regard to the user interface impl…

Mobile agent application fields

2004

Publisher Summary Mobile agents are a recent paradigm for software design, which extends object oriented programming features. An agent can perform its task autonomously; a mobile agent can carry out complex tasks that require the agent to migrate from a network place to another one. Mobile agent application fields are many. It can replace web services in other cases, mobile agents and web services can be an effective solution together. The chapter discusses the three mobile agent application fields, which are: parallel and distributed computing, data mining and information retrieval, and networking. An overview of the development platforms is also discussed. Data mining and information ret…

An Agent-based Service Network for Personal Mobile Devices

2006

We propose the Agent Network for Bluetooth Devices, a system that uses personal mobile devices as adaptive human-environment interfaces to supply people with ad hoc information and high-level services. The ANBD system operates with a hierarchical framework of service-providing nodes, dynamically composed and managed by mobile agents.

Mobile Search - Social Network Search Using Mobile Devices

2008

During the last years progress in Web search engines has been made to the point that relevant information can be reached easily most of the time. However very little empirical research has been carried to study Web search in highly dynamic social network environments composed of mobile devices. The aim of this work was therefore to investigate novel approaches that took advantage of the social network environment inherent to mobile peer-to-peer paradigm. The work focused mainly on the development of a prototype for mobile search concept. The prototype was built on top of Drupal content site management system. This study suggests that the methods presented can be a complement to traditional …

Electronic Commerce Transactions in a Mobile Computing Environment

2002

Internet E-commerce has been flourishing for the last few years, especially with the advent of World Wide Web. Mobile Electronic Commerce (MEC) has started recently to appear in the scene. It exploits the advantages of Internet, mobile computing and mobile communications in order to provide a large number of advanced services to mobile users. The potentials of MEC are enormous while related technical, business and legal issues become more complicated. The goal of this chapter is to present and discuss problems and identify requirements associated with the trading and billing of tangible and intangible goods in a mobile environment where mobile handheld devices are used for conducting the tr…

Comparative Study of the Mobile Learning Architectures

2016

International audience; With the emergence of mobile devices (Smart Phone, PDA, UMPC, game consoles, etc.), learning is changing from electronic learning (e-Learning) to mobile learning (m-learning). In fact, due to the mobility feature, it seems that the m-learning have to be adapted with the change within the context. Several researches addressed this issue and implemented a mobile learning environment to prove its usefulness and feasibility in various domains. In this article, we conduct a comparative study between a list of mobile learning architectures and methods that are presented in the literature. The performance of these architectures is evaluated based on several criteria, such a…

Towards a methodology for semantic and context-aware mobile learning

2013

International audience; Internet and mobile devices open the way towards mobile learning (m-learning), offering new opportunities to extend learning beyond the traditional teacher-led classroom. M-learning is not only any form of teaching or studying that takes place when the user interacts with a mobile device. It is more than just using a mobile device to access resources and communicate with others. It should take account of the constant mobile situation of the learner. The challenge here is to exploit this continually changing situation with a system that can dynamically recognize and adapt educational resources and services to the "context" in which the learner operates (localization, …

A Latent Class Analysis of Spanish Travelers’ Mobile Internet Usage in Travel Planning and Execution

2014

A study of 476 Spanish travelers found mixed interest and use for the many travel-related mobile internet services that are involved in planning and executing a trip. The findings indicate that these Spanish respondents can be classified into four segments based on the timing of using mobile apps for over a dozen activities involved in travel planning and execution: Savvies, Planners, Opportunists, and Low-techs. Each segment exhibits distinct patterns of mobile internet services usage. Savvies tend to be heavy mobile device users both before and during their trip, while Planners make heavy use of mobile devices in advance of but not during their trip. The Opportunists show a pattern oppos…
