Fascioliasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica. Emergence of human fascioliasis prompted a worldwide control initiative including a pilot study in several countries. Given the necessity to characterize the fasciolid populations involved, the overall aim of the present research is, first, the phenotypic characterization of faciolid adults and eggs implicated in human endemic areas, where this initiative has been implemented, through a computer image analysis system (CIAS) applied on the basis of standardized measurements. Maģistra darba „Pilsētvide latviešu dzejā 1900–1925” mērķis ir izpētīt pilsētas vidi latviešu dzejā (1900–1925), kas publicēta periodikā. Darba teorētiskajā daļā sniegts kultūrvēsturisks ieskats 20. gs. sākuma pilsētā, uzmanību pievēršot gan pilsētas vēsturiskajai situācijai, gan latviešu dzejas ainai un urbānajiem motīviem tajā. Self-interacting dark matter and cosmology of a light scalar mediator

We consider a fermionic dark matter candidate interacting via a scalar mediator coupled with the Standard Model through a Higgs portal. We consider general setting including both scalar and pseudoscalar interactions between the scalar and fermion, and illustrate the relevant features for dark matter abundance, direct search limits and collider constraints. The case where dark matter has a self-interaction strength $\left\langle \sigma_V \right\rangle/m_\psi \sim 0.1-1 \,\mathrm{cm}^2/\mathrm{g}$ is strongly constrained, in particular by the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. Extensions of the standard model scalar sector and constraints from ccolliders and cosmology

In this thesis we study the Higgs sector of the Standard Model and compare it to the latest data from the LHC and Tevatron experiments. Then we consider two extensions of the Higgs sector. First we extend the Standard Model Higgs sector with one real SU(2) singlet and then we consider two-Higgs- doublet model and extend also it with one real singlet. In both extensions the singlet scalar is considered as a potential dark matter candidate. We find that the parameter space of the so called two-Higgs-doublet-inert-singlet model includes regions which could provide a dark matter candidate which constitutes significant amount of the total dark matter mass density.
Dark matter and baryogenesis in Higgs portal models

This work focuses on two of the main issues in current understanding of particle physics described by the Standard Model. The Standard Model, despite of its success, is not complete. Existence of dark matter has been clearly verified, but its nature is unknown. Also, the baryon asymmetry in the Universe hints that the Standard Model has to be extended. In this thesis we study Higgs portal models which both contain dark matter candidates, and can provide for a successful production of the baryon asymmetry.
Shell-model computed cross sections for charged-current scattering of astrophysical neutrinos off 40Ar

Charged-current (anti)neutrino- 40 Ar cross sections for astrophysical neutrinos have been calculated. The initial and final nuclear states were calculated using the nuclear shell model. The folded solar-neutrino scattering cross section was found to be 1.78 ( 23 ) × 10 − 42 cm 2 , which is higher than what the previous papers have reported. The contributions from the 1 − and 2 − multipoles were found to be significant at supernova-neutrino energies, confirming the random-phase approximation (RPA) result of a previous study. The effects of neutrino flavor conversions in dense stellar matter (matter oscillations) were found to enhance the neutrino-scattering cross sections significantly for …

Pētījuma mērķis ir teorētiski un praktiski izzināt priekšējo mēleņu izrunas korekcijas iespējas vingrinājumos un ar modeļu palīdzību. Teorētiskajā daļā ir izzināta un aprakstīta modeļu izmantošana koriģējoši attīstošajā darbībā bērniem ar fonētiski fonemātiskiem traucējumiem.
