Implantable collamer lens and femtosecond laser for myopia: comparison using an adaptive optics visual simulator.
2014
Purpose: To compare optical and visual quality of implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (F-LASIK) for myopia. Methods: The CRX1 adaptive optics visual simulator (Imagine Eyes, Orsay, France) was used to simulate the wavefront aberration pattern after the two surgical procedures for -3-diopter (D) and -6-D myopia. Visual acuity at different contrasts and contrast sensitivities at 10, 20, and 25 cycles/degree (cpd) were measured for 3-mm and 5-mm pupils. The modulation transfer function (MTF) and point spread function (PSF) were calculated for 5-mm pupils. Results: F-LASIK MTF was worse than ICL MTF, which was close to diffraction-limited MT…
Nitroarene hydrogenation catalysts based on Pd nanoparticles glued with PDA on inorganic supports: Multivariate Curve Resolution as an useful tool to…
2021
[EN] Two green catalysts based on Pd(0) nanoparticles (Pd NPs) anchored through PDA on porous silica and magnetite have been synthesized using a generalized simple and reproducible "two-step" methodology. Both catalysts were tested for a model reaction, the hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol using NaBH4 as the hydrogenating agent, and especially good activity has been achieved in the case of the catalysts containing magnetite as inorganic core (Pd NPs-PDA@Fe3O4). We analyzed the effect associated with the catalyst separation method (centrifugation or magnetically) that affect to the distribution and aggregation degree of the Pd NPs. In addition, we also correlate the final catalyst morphology w…
Leibniz, Modal Logic and Possible World Semantics: The Apulean Square as a Procrustean Bed for His Modal Metaphysics
2012
Even if Leibniz didn’t have the opportunity to actually conceive an explicit modal logic system, remains the fact that he had worked out a modal metaphysics, of which the inaugural act, in his Elementa juris naturalis (c. 1671) was an obvious reference to the Apulean square of opposition. Later, scholars acknowledged in this passage probably one of the first sketch of deontic logic of norms. His modal metaphysics rather deals with the so-called alethic modalities, sometimes expounded through a language such as R.M. Adams wondered whether Leibniz could be “a sort of grandfather of possible worlds semantics for modal logic”. In the following study, the Apulean square is used as a hermeneutic …
Sports participation and cultural trends. Running as a reflection of individualisation and post-materialism processes in Spanish society
2014
AbstractThis article examines the relationship between cultural change processes and the practice of running. The empirical basis is the national survey on Spanish sport habits carried out in 2005. Specifically, the subsamples of runners (n = 343) and other sport modalities (n = 2,687) were used. The study reveals that runners are characterised by more post-materialist and individualist tendencies than the rest of the participants. The results suggest the existence of a close relationship between the predominant cultural orientations and certain types of sport activity.
Multi-sensor spectral synergies for crop stress detection and monitoring in the optical domain: A review
2022
Remote detection and monitoring of the vegetation responses to stress became relevant for sustainable agriculture. Ongoing developments in optical remote sensing technologies have provided tools to increase our understanding of stress-related physiological processes. Therefore, this study aimed to provide an overview of the main spectral technologies and retrieval approaches for detecting crop stress in agriculture. Firstly, we present integrated views on: i) biotic and abiotic stress factors, the phases of stress, and respective plant responses, and ii) the affected traits, appropriate spectral domains and corresponding methods for measuring traits remotely. Secondly, representative result…
Monadic second-order logic over pictures and recognizability by tiling systems
1994
We show that a set of pictures (rectangular arrays of symbols) is recognized by a finite tiling system if and only if it is definable in existential monadic second-order logic. As a consequence, finite tiling systems constitute a notion of recognizability over two-dimensional inputs which at the same time generalizes finite-state recognizability over strings and matches a natural logic. The proof is based on the Ehrenfeucht-FraIsse technique for first-order logic and an implementation of “threshold counting” within tiling systems.
Individuals, Identity, Names: Phenomenological Considerations
1997
In Husserl’s early writings (the Logical Investigations and the first section of Ideas I) the main concern of phenomenological investigations is the givenness of the ideal entities of logic and formal ontology. Another field in his earlier writings is the phenomenology of perception and time consciousness. This field of research broadens into the vision of a universal transcendental aesthetics, which, in his later writings, provides the basis for solving the problem of intersubjectivity.1 The final “synthesis” of these fields and problem domains is to be found in the phenomenological theory of the life-world. Lectures and research manuscripts2 of the late period show also that this second f…
Monadic Second-Order Logic over Rectangular Pictures and Recognizability by Tiling Systems
1996
Abstract It is shown that a set of pictures (rectangular arrays of symbols) is recognized by a finite tiling system iff it is definable in existential monadic second-order logic. As a consequence, finite tiling systems constitute a notion of recognizability over two-dimensional inputs which at the same time generalizes finite-state recognizability over strings and also matches a natural logic. The proof is based on the Ehrenfeucht–Fraisse technique for first-order logic and an implementation of “threshold counting” within tiling systems.
Summary and recommendations of the OARSI FDA osteoarthritis Assessment of Structural Change Working Group
2011
Import JabRef | WosArea Orthopedics; Rheumatology; International audience; Objective: The Osteoarthritis Research Society International initiated a number of working groups to address a call from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on updating draft guidance on conduct of osteoarthritis (OA) clinical trials. The development of disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs (DMOADs) remains challenging. The Assessment of Structural Change (ASC) Working Group aimed to provide a state-of-the-art critical update on imaging tools for OA clinical trials. Methods: The Group focussed on the performance metrics of conventional radiographs (CR) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), performing systemati…
