NoteAbout the Concept of “Net Multipliers”

2002

Net multipliers, as introduced by Oosterhaven and Stelder (2002) accept outputs as entries instead of final demand. They are found by multiplying ordinary multipliers by the final demand ratio over the sector’s output. This pragmatic solution suffers from ratio instability over time. The alternative net multipliers proposed here are based on the interpretation of the Leontief inverse matrix for the effects generated at each round. The new solution is not sensitive to the size of impacts. Now net multiplier is equal to the corresponding ordinary multiplier minus one, and the ordering of multipliers is unchanged.

Simulated annealing with restrained molecular dynamics using CONGEN: Energy refinement of the NMR solution structures of epidermal and type-αtransfor…

1996

The new functionality of the program CONGEN (Bruccoleri RE, Karplus M, 1987, Biopolymers 26:137-168; Bassolino-Klimas D et al., 1996, Protein Sci 5:593-603) has been applied for energy refinement of two previously determined solution NMR structures, murine epidermal growth factor (mEGF) and human type-alpha transforming growth factor (hTGF alpha). A summary of considerations used in converting experimental NMR data into distance constraints for CONGEN is presented. A general protocol for simulated annealing with restrained molecular dynamics is applied to generate NMR solution structures using CONGEN together with real experimental NMR data. A total of 730 NMR-derived constraints for mEGF a…

Stochastic dynamics of nonlinear systems driven by non-normal delta-correlated processes

1993

In this paper, nonlinear systems subjected to external and parametric non-normal delta-correlated stochastic excitations are treated. A new interpretation of the stochastic differential calculus allows first a full explanation of the presence of the Wong-Zakai or Stratonovich correction terms in the Itoˆ’s differential rule. Then this rule is extended to take into account the non-normality of the input. The validity of this formulation is confirmed by experimental results obtained by Monte Carlo simulations.

Stochastic response of a fractional vibroimpact system

2017

Abstract The paper proposes a method to investigate the stochastic dynamics of a vibroimpact single-degree-of-freedom fractional system under a Gaussian white noise input. It is assumed that the system has a hard type impact against a one-sided motionless barrier, which is located at the system’s equilibrium position; furthermore, the system under study is endowed with an element modeled with fractional derivative. The proposed method is based on stochastic averaging technique and overcome the particular difficulty due to the presence of fractional derivative of an absolute value function; particularly an analytical expression for the system’s mean squared response amplitude is presented an…

Computational Analysis Workshop: Comparing Four Approaches to Melodic Analysis

2009

We compare four computational approaches of melodic analysis according to diverse approach aspects: input type (monophonic or polyphonic), pattern identification type (strict or similar), analysis segmentation, aim of approach, motivic pattern representation, and type of result representations. The considered four computational approaches are the following: a similarity neighbourhood approach by Adiloglu (Adiloglu and Obermayer 2006a, b), a multiple viewpoint representation and discovery approach by Anagnostopoulou (Anagnostopoulou, Share and Conklin 2006), a topological approach by Buteau (2005), and an approach based on multidimensional closed pattern mining by Lartillot (Lartillot and To…

Representation of Quasi-Measure by Henstock–Kurzweil Type Integral on a Compact-Zero Dimensional Metric Space

2009

Abstract A derivation basis is introduced in a compact zero-dimensional metric space 𝑋. A Henstock–Kurzweil type integral with respect to this basis is defined and used to represent the so-called quasi-measure on 𝑋.

Henstock type integral in compact zero-dimensional metric space and quasi-measures representations

2012

Properties of a Henstock type integral defined on a compact zero-dimensional metric space are studied. Theorems on integral representation of so-called quasi-measures, i.e., linear functionals on the space of “polynomials” defined on the space of the above mentioned type, are obtained.

Influence of temperature on the calibration curves in IRMA for neuron specific enolase and its physicochemical interpretation

2009

Abstract Background immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) is one of the principal methods used for the analytical determination of neuron specific enolase (NSE) concentration. We studied the influence of temperature on the calibration curves obtained by this method, and a physicochemical justification based on two theoretical models is proposed. Material and methods we used a commercially available RIA kit for NSE and a gamma counter. Data was analysed using Statistical software. Results and discussion activity bound to the antibody increases with temperature, producing results that are consistent with two modifications to the four parameter and Langmuir equations. Conclusions the two models used …

On the interpretation of retrograde reaction textures in granulite facies rocks

2010

Retrograde reaction textures, such as partial pseudomorphs, coronae and symplectic coronae are a relatively common feature of granulite facies rocks and represent evidence of change of mineral modes or assemblages. Thus, such reaction textures represent one of the more potentially useful indicators of retrograde P-T evolutions. However, the interpretation of such textures requires the simultaneous consideration of the formation of the texture itself in terms of the spatial relationships in a rock, and of the changes in P-T conditions that drove the development of the reaction texture. Calculated phase diagrams provide a robust framework in which to consider reaction textures, especially via…

Prediction and Interpretation of Some Pharmacological Properties of Cephalosporins Using Molecular Connectivity

1991

A method of molecular connectivity was used to study the pharmacological and antimicrobial properties of 34 cephalosporin antibiotics to verify its applicability to these parameters. By using Kier and Hall connectivity indices (Xi) as well as geometric indices (GIs), good correlation equations were obtained with a low number of variables. In some cases, such as the lethal dose for 50% of group (LD50) values and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, better regression equations were obtained with the GIs alone, confirming their alternative nature with respect to Xi, indices.
