Hydrogen abstraction by photoexcited benzophenone: consequences for DNA photosensitization

2016

International audience; We report a computational investigation of the hydrogen abstraction (H-abstraction) induced by triplet benzophenone (3BP) on thymine nucleobase and backbone sugar. The chemical process is studied using both high level multiconfigurational perturbation and density functional theory. Both methods show good agreement in predicting small kinetic barriers. Furthermore the behavior of benzophenone in DNA is simulated using molecular dynamics and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics methods. The accessibility of benzophenone to the labile hydrogens within B-DNA is demonstrated, as well as the driving force for this reaction. We evidence a strong dependence of the H-…

Innovative straight formulation for plate in bending

2017

In this paper it has been introduced an innovative formulation for evaluating the deflection function of a simply supported plate loaded by uniformly distributed edge moments. Framed into Line Element-less Method, this formulation allows the evaluation of solution in terms of deflection, through few lines of algorithm implemented by Mathematica software without resorting to any discretization neither in the domain nor in the boundary. Interesting savings in terms of time and computational costs are achieved. Results obtained by the proposed method are well contrasted by ones obtained by classical methods and Finite Element Method.

Cognitive factors in the evaluation of synthetic speech

1998

Abstract This paper illustrates the importance of various cognitive factors involved in perceiving and comprehending synthetic speech. It includes findings drawn from the relative psychological and psycholinguistic literature together with experimental results obtained at the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni laboratory. Overall, it is shown that listening to and comprehending synthetic voices is more difficult than with a natural voice. However, and more importantly, this difficulty can and does decrease with the subjects' exposure to said synthetic voices. Furthermore, greater workload demands are associated with synthetic speech and subjects listening to synthetic passages are required to pay more …

Impact of LoRa Imperfect Orthogonality: Analysis of Link-Level Performance

2018

In this letter, we focus on the evaluation of link-level performance of LoRa technology, in the usual network scenario with a central gateway and high-density deployment of end-devices. LoRa technology achieves wide coverage areas, low power consumption and robustness to interference thanks to a chirp spread-spectrum modulation, in which chirps modulated with different spreading factors (SFs) are quasi-orthogonal. We focus on the performance analysis of a single receiver in presence of collisions. First, we analyze LoRa modulation numerically and show that collisions between packets modulated with different SFs can indeed cause packet loss if the interference power received is strong enough…

The shortest-path problem with resource constraints with -loop elimination and its application to the capacitated arc-routing problem

2014

Abstract In many branch-and-price algorithms, the column generation subproblem consists of computing feasible constrained paths. In the capacitated arc-routing problem (CARP), elementarity constraints concerning the edges to be serviced and additional constraints resulting from the branch-and-bound process together impose two types of loop-elimination constraints. To fulfill the former constraints, it is common practice to rely on a relaxation where loops are allowed. In a k-loop elimination approach all loops of length k and smaller are forbidden. Following Bode and Irnich (2012) for solving the CARP, branching on followers and non-followers is the only known approach to guarantee integer …

The Lyapunov dimension formula for the global attractor of the Lorenz system

2015

The exact Lyapunov dimension formula for the Lorenz system has been analytically obtained first due to G.A.Leonov in 2002 under certain restrictions on parameters, permitting classical values. He used the construction technique of special Lyapunov-type functions developed by him in 1991 year. Later it was shown that the consideration of larger class of Lyapunov-type functions permits proving the validity of this formula for all parameters of the system such that all the equilibria of the system are hyperbolically unstable. In the present work it is proved the validity of the formula for Lyapunov dimension for a wider variety of parameters values, which include all parameters satisfying the …

-Infinity robust controller design for the synchronization of master-slave chaotic systems with disturbance input

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2012.1.3 This paper is concerned with the robust control problems for the synchronization of master-slave chaotic systems with disturbance input. By constructing a series of Lyapunov functions, novel H1 robust syn- chronization controllers are designed, whose control regulation possess the characteristic of simpleness and explicitness. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the e ectiveness of the proposed techniques.

Adaptive predictor control for stabilizing pressure in a managed pressure drilling system under time-delay

2016

Abstract In this paper, we address adaptive predictor feedback design for a simplified ODE drilling system in the presence of unknown parameter, disturbance and time-delay. The main objective is to stabilize the bottomhole pressure at a critical depth at a desired set-point directly. The time-delay in the transmission line of the drilling systems is considered. The stabilization of the dynamic system and the asymptotic tracking are demonstrated by the proposed predictor control, where the adaptation employs Lyapunov update law design with normalization. The proposed method is evaluated using a high fidelity drilling simulator and cases from a North Sea drilling operation are simulated. The …

FPGA Implementation Of Diffusive Realization For A Distributed Control Operator

2010

International audience; We focus on the question of real-time computation for optimal distributed filtering or control applicable to MEMS Arrays. We present an algorithm for the realization of a linear operator solution to a functional equation through its application to a Lyapunov operatorial equation associated to the heat equation in one dimension. It is based on the diffusive realization, and turns to be well suited for fined grained parallel computer architecture as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). An effective FPGA implementation has been successfully carried out. Here, we report the main implementation steps and the final measured performances.

Recent advances in 2D and 3D in vitro systems using primary hepatocytes, alternative hepatocyte sources and non-parenchymal liver cells and their use…

2013

This review encompasses the most important advances in liver functions and hepatotoxicity and analyzes which mechanisms can be studied in vitro. In a complex architecture of nested, zonated lobules, the liver consists of approximately 80 % hepatocytes and 20 % non-parenchymal cells, the latter being involved in a secondary phase that may dramatically aggravate the initial damage. Hepatotoxicity, as well as hepatic metabolism, is controlled by a set of nuclear receptors (including PXR, CAR, HNF-4α, FXR, LXR, SHP, VDR and PPAR) and signaling pathways. When isolating liver cells, some pathways are activated, e.g., the RAS/MEK/ERK pathway, whereas others are silenced (e.g. HNF-4α), resulting in…
