The pion distribution amplitude and the pion-photon transition form factor in a nonlocal chiral quark model

We study the pion Distribution Amplitude (\pi DA) in the context of a nonlocal chiral quark model. The corresponding Lagrangian reproduces the phenomenological values of the pion mass and decay constant, as well as the momentum dependence of the quark propagator obtained in lattice calculations. It is found that the obtained \pi DA has two symmetric maxima, which arise from the new contributions generated by the nonlocal character of the interactions. This \pi DA is applied to leading order and next-to-leading order calculations of the pion-photon transition form factor. Implications of the results are discussed.

Pion radiative weak decays in nonlocal chiral quark models

We analyze the radiative pion decay pi+ -> e+ nu_e gamma within nonlocal chiral quark models that include wave function renormalization. In this framework we calculate the vector and axial-vector form factors FV and FA at q^2=0 --where q^2 is the (e+ ��_e) squared invariant mass-- and the slope a of FV(q^2) at q^2 -> 0. The calculations are carried out considering different nonlocal form factors, in particular those taken from lattice QCD evaluations, showing a reasonable agreement with the corresponding experimental data. Predictions for multiplicities and flow harmonics in 5.44 TeV Xe+Xe collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We present the next-to-leading-order event-by-event EKRT model predictions for the centrality dependence of the charged hadron multiplicity in the pseudorapidity interval $|\eta|\le 0.5$, and for the centrality dependence of the charged hadron flow harmonics $v_n\{2\}$ obtained from 2-particle cumulants, in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.44$ TeV Xe+Xe collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Our prediction for the 0-5 \% central charged multiplicity is $dN_{\rm ch}/d\eta =1218\pm 46$. We also predict $v_n\{2\}$ in Xe+Xe collisions to increase more slowly from central towards peripheral collisions than those in a Pb+Pb system. Search for a low-mass scalar Higgs boson decaying to a tau pair in single-photon decays of Y(1S)

We search for a low-mass scalar CP-odd Higgs boson, A(0), produced in the radiative decay of the upsilon resonance and decaying into a tau(+)tau(-) pair: Y(1S) -> gamma A(0). The production of Y(1S) mesons is tagged by Y(2S) -> pi(+)pi(-) Y(1S) transitions, using a sample of (98.3 +/- 0.9) x 10(6) Y(2S) mesons collected by the BABAR detector. We find no evidence for a Higgs boson in the mass range 3: 5 <= m(A)0 <= 9: 2 GeV, and combine these results with our previous search for the tau decays of the light Higgs in radiative Y(3S) decays, setting limits on the coupling of A(0) to the b (b) over bar quarks in the range 0.09-1.9. Electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon in a relativistic quark pair creation model

We study the effects of the | qqq q\bar{q} &gt; component of the hadronic wave function on the description of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. Starting with a qqq baryonic wave function which describes the baryonic and mesonic low energy spectrum, the extra q\bar{q} pair is generated through a relativistic version of the 3P_0 model. It is shown that this model leads to a renormalization of the quark mass that allows one to construct a conserved electromagnetic current. We conclude that these dynamical relativistic corrections play an important role in reproducing the Q2 dependence of the electromagnetic form factors at low Q^2.

Nonstandard Yukawa couplings and Higgs portal dark matter

We study the implications of non-standard Higgs Yukawa couplings to light quarks on Higgs-portal dark matter phenomenology. Saturating the present experimental bounds on up-quark, down-quark, or strange-quark Yukawa couplings, the predicted direct dark matter detection scattering rate can increase by up to four orders of magnitude. The effect on the dark matter annihilation cross section, on the other hand, is subleading unless the dark matter is very light -- a scenario that is already excluded by measurements of the Higgs invisible decay width. Dipole operator constraints on composite Higgs models

Flavour- and CP-violating electromagnetic or chromomagnetic dipole operators in the quark sector are generated in a large class of new physics models and are strongly constrained by measurements of the neutron electric dipole moment and observables sensitive to flavour-changing neutral currents, such as the $B\to X_s\gamma$ branching ratio and $\epsilon'/\epsilon$. After a model-independent discussion of the relevant constraints, we analyze these effects in models with partial compositeness, where the quarks get their masses by mixing with vector-like composite fermions. Inverse magnetic catalysis in nonlocal chiral quark models

We study the behavior of strongly interacting matter under an external magnetic field in the context of nonlocal Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) -like models. We find that at zero temperature the condensates display the well-known Magnetic Catalysis effect, showing a good quantitative agreement with lattice QCD results. Moreover, when extended to finite temperature we find that the Inverse Magnetic Catalysis effect is naturally incorporated.

Mesoscopic gels at low agarose concentration: perturbation effects of ethanol

Aqueous agarose solutions at low concentrations (0.5 g/liter) were temperature quenched below the spinodal line to form mutually disconnected mesoscopic gels. In the presence of 6% ethanol, these solutions, obtained by quenching at the same temperature depth as in pure water, appear much more fluid, as determined by probe diffusion experiments. We show by static and dynamic light scattering that this can be explained by the solvent-mediated effects of ethanol, leading to a globular shape of mesoscopic agarose gels, rather than to an extended rodlike structure observed in pure water.
