Learning From Errors: Detecting Cross-Technology Interference in WiFi Networks

2018

In this paper, we show that inter-technology interference can be recognized using commodity WiFi devices by monitoring the statistics of receiver errors. Indeed, while for WiFi standard frames the error probability varies during the frame reception in different frame fields (PHY, MAC headers, and payloads) protected with heterogeneous coding, errors may appear randomly at any point during the time the demodulator is trying to receive an exogenous interfering signal. We thus detect and identify cross-technology interference on off-the-shelf WiFi cards by monitoring the sequence of receiver errors (bad PLCP, bad FCS, invalid headers, etc.) and propose two methods to recognize the source of in…

A highly selective, Hg2+ triggered hydrogelation: modulation of morphology by chemical stimuli

2013

We report the first Hg(2+) selective hydrogelation by 4'-[4-(4-aminophenyl)phenyl]-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine. The gel showed remarkable response towards specific chemical agents such as benzo-18-crown-6 ether and K(+) which enabled extensive modulation of the gel morphology.

Regulatory T Cells and IL-10 Independently Counterregulate Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte Responses Induced by Transcutaneous Immunization

2011

Background: The imidazoquinoline derivate imiquimod induces inflammatory responses and protection against transplanted tumors when applied to the skin in combination with a cognate peptide epitope (transcutaneous immunization, TCI). Here we investigated the role of regulatory T cells (Treg) and the suppressive cytokine IL-10 in restricting TCI-induced cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses. Methodology/Principal Findings: TCI was performed with an ointment containing the TLR7 agonist imiquimod and a CTL epitope was applied to the depilated back skin of C57BL/6 mice. Using specific antibodies and FoxP3-diphteria toxin receptor transgenic (DEREG) mice, we interrogated inhibiting factors after…

Concept and Development of Modular VLIW Processor Based on FPGA

2010

Modern FPGA chips, with their larger memory capacity and reconfigurability potential, are opening new frontiers in rapid prototyping of embedded systems. With the advent of high density FPGAs it is now possible to implement a high performance VLIW processor core in an FPGA. Architecture based on Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processors are an optimal choice in the attempt to obtain high performance level in embedded system. In VLIW architecture, the effectiveness of these processors depends on the ability of compilers to provide sufficient instruction level parallelism(ILP) in program code. Using advanced compiler technology could take these functions, This paper describes research resu…

Multiple modular very long instruction word processors based on field programmable gate arrays

2007

Modern field programmable gate array (FPGA) chips, with their large memory capacity and reconfigurability potential, are opening new frontiers in rapid prototyping of embedded systems. With the advent of high-density FPGAs, it is now possible to implement a high-performance very long instruction word (VLIW) processor core in an FPGA. This paper describes research results about enabling the DSP TMS320 C6201 model for real-time image processing applications by exploiting FPGA technology. We present a modular DSP C6201 VHDL model with a variable instruction set. We call this new development a minimum mandatory modules (M3) approach. Our goals are to keep the flexibility of DSP in order to shor…

Optical spectra beyond the amplifier bandwidth limitation in dispersion-managed mode-locked fiber lasers

2011

We investigate the intracavity pulse dynamics inside dispersionmanaged mode-locked fiber lasers, and show numerically that for a relatively wide range of parameters, pulse compression dynamics in the passive anomalous fiber can be accompanied by a significant enhancement of the spectral width by a factor close to 3. Varying the average cavity dispersion also reveals chaotic dynamics for certain dispersion ranges. The impact of the implementation of an optical output port to tap optimal pulse features is discussed. © 2011 Optical Society of America.

KIND-DAMA: A modular middleware for Kinect-like device data management

2017

Summary In the last decades, we have witnessed a growing interest toward touchless gestural user interfaces. Among other reasons, this is due to the large availability of different low-cost gesture acquisition hardware (the so-called “Kinect-like devices”). As a consequence, there is a growing need for solutions that allow to easily integrate such devices within actual systems. In this paper, we present KIND-DAMA, an open and modular middleware that helps in the development of interactive applications based on gestural input. We first review the existing middlewares for gestural data management. Then, we describe the proposed architecture and compare its features against the existing simila…

Multipactor RF Breakdown in Coaxial Transmission Lines With Digitally Modulated Signals

2016

The aim of this paper is the study of the RF multipactor breakdown in coaxial transmission lines excited by a single carrier with a digitally modulated signal. Employing an in-house developed code, numerical simulations are performed to determine the RF multipactor voltage threshold for several digitally modulated signals under different modulations schemes: quadrature phase-shift keying, 16-quadrature amplitude modulation, 16-amplitude and phase-shift keying, and 32-amplitude and phase-shift keying. Moreover, a coarse method based on the envelope integration to determine the RF multipactor voltage threshold when involving arbitrary digital modulations is also presented. These results are a…

Broadband, site selective and time resolved photoluminescence spectroscopic studies of finely size-modulated Y2O3:Eu3+ phosphors synthesized by a com…

2014

Undoped and Eu3+-doped cubic yttria (Y2O3) nanophosphors of good crystallinity, with selective particle sizes ranging between 6 and 37 nm and showing narrow size distributions, have been synthesized by a complex-based precursor solution method. The systematic size tuning has been evidenced by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman scattering measurements. Furthermore, size-modulated properties of Eu3+ ions have been correlated with the local structure of Eu3+ ion in different sized Y2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors by means of steady-state and time-resolved site-selective laser spectroscopies. Time-resolved site-selective excitation measurements performed in the 7F0 ¿ 5D0 peak…

Modulation of current-time traces by two-pore arrangements of polyimide nanofluidic diodes

2019

Liquid state arrangements of two polymeric membranes with single conical nanopores constitute nanofluidic diodes that allow a rich electrical functionality based on the modulation of individual conductances in aqueous electrolyte solutions. In particular, the prescribed sequences of current-time traces can be obtained by preprogramed switching between series and parallel pore connection arrangements. Hybrid nanopore-solid-state circuits are also possible. The basic applied physics of the nanofluidic diode arrangements can be understood from simple circuit theory concepts and should be of widespread interest to sensing and actuating procedures, controlled release dispensers, and energy conve…
