Concept and Development of Modular VLIW Processor Based on FPGA

2010

Modern FPGA chips, with their larger memory capacity and reconfigurability potential, are opening new frontiers in rapid prototyping of embedded systems. With the advent of high density FPGAs it is now possible to implement a high performance VLIW processor core in an FPGA. Architecture based on Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processors are an optimal choice in the attempt to obtain high performance level in embedded system. In VLIW architecture, the effectiveness of these processors depends on the ability of compilers to provide sufficient instruction level parallelism(ILP) in program code. Using advanced compiler technology could take these functions, This paper describes research resu…

Multiple modular very long instruction word processors based on field programmable gate arrays

2007

Modern field programmable gate array (FPGA) chips, with their large memory capacity and reconfigurability potential, are opening new frontiers in rapid prototyping of embedded systems. With the advent of high-density FPGAs, it is now possible to implement a high-performance very long instruction word (VLIW) processor core in an FPGA. This paper describes research results about enabling the DSP TMS320 C6201 model for real-time image processing applications by exploiting FPGA technology. We present a modular DSP C6201 VHDL model with a variable instruction set. We call this new development a minimum mandatory modules (M3) approach. Our goals are to keep the flexibility of DSP in order to shor…

KIND-DAMA: A modular middleware for Kinect-like device data management

2017

Summary In the last decades, we have witnessed a growing interest toward touchless gestural user interfaces. Among other reasons, this is due to the large availability of different low-cost gesture acquisition hardware (the so-called “Kinect-like devices”). As a consequence, there is a growing need for solutions that allow to easily integrate such devices within actual systems. In this paper, we present KIND-DAMA, an open and modular middleware that helps in the development of interactive applications based on gestural input. We first review the existing middlewares for gestural data management. Then, we describe the proposed architecture and compare its features against the existing simila…

WCLL breeding blanket design and integration for DEMO 2015: status and perspectives

2017

Abstract Water-cooled lithium-lead breeding blanket is considered a candidate option for European DEMO nuclear fusion reactor. ENEA and the linked third parties have proposed and are developing a multi-module blanket segment concept based on DEMO 2015 specifications. The layout of the module is based on horizontal (i.e. radial-toroidal) water-cooling tubes in the breeding zone, and on lithium lead flowing in radial-poloidal direction. This design choice is driven by the rationale to have a modular design, where a basic geometry is repeated along the poloidal direction. The modules are connected with a back supporting structure, designed to withstand thermal and mechanical loads due to norma…

Modular De novo Synthesis of Unsymmetrical BODIPY Dyes Possessing Four Different Aryl Substituents

2017

A modular synthesis of unsymmetrical BODIPY dyes based on a [6π]-electrocyclization to construct the two pyrrole rings is presented. The products carry four aryl moieties in positions 1, 3, 5, and 7 which can be freely selected as well as optional substitution in positions 2 and 8. The method employs acetophenones, benzaldehydes as well as glycine nitrile or glycine ethyl ester as the key building blocks.

Permutable subnormal subgroups of finite groups

2009

The aim of this paper is to prove certain characterization theorems for groups in which permutability is a transitive relation, the so called PT -groups. In particular, it is shown that the finite solvable PT -groups, the finite solvable groups in which every subnormal subgroup of defect two is permutable, the finite solvable groups in which every normal subgroup is permutable sensitive, and the finite solvable groups in which conjugatepermutability and permutability coincide are all one and the same class. This follows from our main result which says that the finite modular p-groups, p a prime, are those p-groups in which every subnormal subgroup of defect two is permutable or, equivalentl…

On fully ramified Brauer characters

2014

Let Z be a normal subgroup of a finite group, let p≠5 be a prime and let λ∈IBr(Z) be an irreducible G-invariant p-Brauer character of Z. Suppose that λG=eφ for some φ∈IBr(G). Then G/Z is solvable. In other words, a twisted group algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not 5 with a unique class of simple modules comes from a solvable group.

NONVANISHING ELEMENTS FOR BRAUER CHARACTERS

2015

Let $G$ be a finite group and $p$ a prime. We say that a $p$-regular element $g$ of $G$ is $p$-nonvanishing if no irreducible $p$-Brauer character of $G$ takes the value $0$ on $g$. The main result of this paper shows that if $G$ is solvable and $g\in G$ is a $p$-regular element which is $p$-nonvanishing, then $g$ lies in a normal subgroup of $G$ whose $p$-length and $p^{\prime }$-length are both at most 2 (with possible exceptions for $p\leq 7$), the bound being best possible. This result is obtained through the analysis of one particular orbit condition in linear actions of solvable groups on finite vector spaces, and it generalizes (for $p>7$) some results in Dolfi and Pacifici [‘Zero…

On Fibrations Between Internal Groupoids and Their Normalizations

2018

We characterize fibrations and $$*$$ -fibrations in the 2-category of internal groupoids in terms of the comparison functor from certain pullbacks to the corresponding strong homotopy pullbacks. As an application, we deduce the internal version of the Brown exact sequence for $$*$$ -fibrations from the internal version of the Gabriel–Zisman exact sequence. We also analyse fibrations and $$*$$ -fibrations in the category of arrows and study when the normalization functor preserves and reflects them. This analysis allows us to give a characterization of protomodular categories using strong homotopy kernels and a generalization of the Snake Lemma.

Low-cost, portable open-source gas monitoring device based on chemosensory technology

2015

[EN] We report herein the construction of an electronic device to perform the real-time digitalization of the color state of the optical chemosensors used in the detection of dangerous gases. To construct the device, we used open-source modular electronics, such as Arduino and Sparkfun components, as well as free and open-source software (FOSS). The basic principle of the operation of this device is the continuous color measurement of a chemosensor-doped sensing film, whose color changes in the presence of a specific gas. The chemosensor-sensing film can be prepared by using any of the widely available chemosensors for the desired gas. Color measurement is taken by two TCS230 color sensor I…
