Solid State Analysis of Metal-Containing Polymers Employing Mossbauer Spectroscopy, Solid State NMR and F EI TOF MALDI MS

2010

Polymers in general and metal-containing polymers in particular are often sparingly soluble or insoluble, in contrast to small molecules. Thus, special significance is attached to characterization techniques that can be applied to the materials as solids. Here, three techniques are discussed that give structural information gained from the solid material. Mossbauer spectroscopy is a powerful technique that may give information on the structure about the metal-containing moiety for about 44 different nuclei. Its use in describing the structure of the product obtained from organotin dichlorides and the unsymmetrical ciprofloxacin is presented along with the reaction implications of the result…

Novel Terphenyls and 3,5-Diaryl Isoxazole Derivatives Endowed with Growth Supporting and Antiapoptotic Properties

2008

A new study on terphenyl and diaryl-isoxazole and -isoxazoline derivatives, maintaining a common 3-adamantyl-4-hydroxyphenyl moiety, has been conducted to find compounds with growth supporting and antiapoptotic properties. Unexpectedly, diphenyisoxazole derivatives bearing a nitro group replacing the carboxylic function have been found with the highest cell protective activity within the series, in complete and in serum-free conditions. Inhibition of apoptosis induced by daunorubicin has also been observed for the most active compound.

Synthesis of plagiochiline N from santonin.

2001

This article reports the transformation of O-acetylisophotosantonin, obtained by photochemical rearrangement of santonin, into plagiochiline N, an ent-2,3-secoaromadendrane isolated from Plagiochila ovalifolia. The synthesis was carried out in a sequence involving as the key steps (a) the substitution of the lactone moiety by a gem-dimethylcyclopropane ring through a synthetic intermediate having a C(6)-C(7) double bond and (b) the ozonolysis of the C(2)-C(3) bond followed by cyclization to the dihydropyran ring characteristic of plagiochiline N. Spectroscopic data of the synthetic product fully coincided with the reported data for the natural product.

Fluorinated Heterocyclic Compounds. An Expedient Route to 5-Perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-triazoles via an Unusual Hydrazinolysis of 5-Perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-ox…

2003

The hydrazinolysis reaction of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles has been investigated. Nucleophilic addition of the reagent to the C(5)-N(4) double bond of the oxadiazole ring, followed by ring-opening and then ring-closure involving the beta-nitrogen atom of the hydrazino moiety and the C(3) of the oxadiazole ring, explains the formation of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-triazoles as final products. Useful applications in synthesis of this uncommon hydrazinolysis can be claimed.

Organolanthanides, catalysts for specific olefin-diene copolymerization: access to new materials

2001

Abstract Non-hindered ansa dicyclopentadienylallyl complexes of samarium, [(CMe2C5H4)2Sm(allyl)]n, and (CMe2C5H4)2Sm(allyl)L (L=THF or allylLi) polymerize isoprene without an aluminum cocatalyst. The polymerizations are highly stereospecific, affording nearly quantitatively 1–4 trans polyisoprene. In the presence of linear 1-olefins, copolymers are formed, with 6–10% of olefin inserted; the 1–4 trans structure of the polyisoprene chain is not altered, and only one olefin molecule is inserted between two polyisoprene fragments. In the common initiator of these three catalytic systems, the (CMe2C5H4)2Sm(allyl) moiety, only one vacant site would be available. As a consequence of the presence o…

Synthesis and Characterization of theO-Alkylation Products of Resorcinarene

2013

O-Substitution reactions of tetramethoxyresorcinarene with alkyl halides produced a variety of partially O-alkylated resorcinarene derivatives with terminal alkyne functionality. The degree of alkylation was affected by the reactivity of the alkylating halide used. NMR spectroscopy proved to be an ideal tool for analyzing the complex reaction mixtures and the isolated products based on the symmetry and degree of alkylation of the resorcinarene derivatives. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies furthermore showed diversity in the self-assembly of the various O-alkylation products that was greatly affected by the degree of alkylation, as well as the nature of the alkyne moiety.

Dithienopyrrolobenzotriazole-based organic dyes with high molar extinction coefficient for efficient dye-sensitized solar cells

2016

Abstract Four novel organic dyes DT1-DT4 containing a dithienopyrrolobenzotriazole unit were synthesized and applied in dye sensitized solar cells, where dithienopyrrolobenzotriazole moiety was introduced as a π-spacer for the first time. The four dyes exhibited good light harvesting efficiency with high molar extinction coefficients and broad spectral response. The influence of the different electron donor on the photovoltaic performance was evaluated. The effects of the linear and branched alkyl chains in the π-bridge on the photophysical, electrochemical and photovoltaic performance were systemically investigated. The results show that branched alkyl chains are better than linear alkyl c…

Plant-growth-regulatingN-(phosphonoacetyl)amines

1994

A series of N‐(phosphonacetyl)amine derivatives were synthesized and screened for plant‐growth regulating activity on Lepidium sativum L. and Cucumis sativus L. Aromatic N‐(phosphonoacetyl)amines. which may be considered as possible analogues of N‐acylaniline herbicides obtained by replacement of their acyl group by the phosphonacetyl moiety, exhibited significant or moderate herbicidal activity. In contrast, N‐(phosphonoacetyl)amino acids and N‐(phosphonoacetyl)aminophosphonic acids promoted the growth of L. sativum and C. sativus roots.

Oligoethyleneoxide spacer groups in polymerizable surfactants

1991

Cationic and zwitterionic polymerizable surfactants bearing tri- and tetraethyleneglycol spacer groups between the polymerizable moiety and the surfactant structure were prepared and polymerized. Monomers and polymers were investigated with respect to their aggregation behavior in aqueous systems and compared to analogous monomers and polymers lacking spacer groups. In the case of the monomeric surfactants, the spacer groups depress both the Kraffttemperature and the critical micelle concentration. the area occupied per molecule at the air-water interface is substantially enlarged by the spacers, whereas the depression of surface tension is nearly constant. Although the monomers with and wi…

α ,ω n -Heterotelechelic Hyperbranched Polyethers Solubilize Carbon Nanotubes

2010

The synthesis of novel linear-hyperbranched (linhb) polyether block copolymers based on poly(ethylene oxide) and branched poly(glycerol), bearing a single pyrene or myristyl moiety at the α-position of the linear chain is described. The polymers exhibit low polydispersity (M w /M n < 1.3) and controlled molecular weights (M n = 5 000 g·mol -1 ). The mainly hydrophilic block copolymers with multiple hydroxyl end groups readily dissolve multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in water by mixing and subsequent sonification, resulting in noncovalent attachment of the linhb hybrid structure to the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to visualize the solubil…
