Pressure-induced structural evaluation and insulator-metal transition in the mixed spinel ferrite Zn0.2Mg0.8Fe2O4
2017
The effect of pressure on the electronic properties and crystal structure in a mixed spinel ferrite $\mathrm{Z}{\mathrm{n}}_{0.2}\mathrm{M}{\mathrm{g}}_{0.8}\mathrm{F}{\mathrm{e}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ was studied for the first time up to 48 GPa at room temperature using x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and electrical transport measurements. The sample was cubic (spinel-type $Fd\overline{3}m$) at ambient pressure and underwent a pressure-induced structural transition to an orthorhombic phase $(\mathrm{CaT}{\mathrm{i}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{type}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}Bbmm)$ at 21 GPa. This structural transformation corresponded to a first-order phase transition …
Effects and future trends of casein phosphopeptides on zinc bioavailability
2007
This review focuses on studies of the effects of CPPs on zinc bioavailability. It evaluates the main differences in studies performed in the last two decades, such as methodology used to measure zinc, food matrix, CPP preparation, CPP dose, CPP:Zn molar ratio and presence and concentration of zinc absorption inhibitors, such as phytate, iron and calcium. The future trends of CPPs as functional ingredients in zinc-enriched or zinc-containing foods are also discussed.

Resonant ionization spectroscopy of autoionizing Rydberg states in cobalt and redetermination of its ionization potential
2017
Multi-step resonance ionization spectroscopy of cobalt has been performed using a hot-cavity laser ion source and three Ti:Sapphire lasers. The photoionization spectra revealed members of five new autoionizing Rydberg series that originate from three different lower levels of 3d74s5s h4F9/2, 3d74s4d f4G11/2, and 3d74s4d f4H13/2 and converge to the first four excited states of singly ionized Co. The analyses of the Rydberg series yield 63564.689 0.036 cm-1 as the first ionization potential of Co, which is an order of magnitude more accurate than the previous estimation. Using a three-step resonance ionization scheme that employs an autoinizing Rydberg state in the last transition, we obta…
Strong etching formulation (time and rate) for PADC with deep depth bulk etch rate study
2021
Abstract Aqueous NaOH with ethanol (strong) etchant is widely used. It shortens etching time effectively compared to normal etching conditions (6.25N NaOH at 70 °C). Two equations have been proposed to calculate the etching time with NaOH molarity and ethanol volume. Another two empirical equations were introduced for estimating the bulk etch rates of PADC etched in strong etchant. Up to now, there were no such equations available in the literature that can predict etching time and V b of PADC with etchant molarity and ethanol volumes. The proposed equations were compared to fundamental V b models stemming from literature. Fast etching enables the follow-up of bulk etch rate variation versu…
If using electronmicroscopy for the determination of the molecular weight distribution it is suitable to evaluate first the integral number distribution function which will be defined. Its relations to other distribution funct…
Model Analysis of Hydrometeor Scattering Effects on Free Space Near-Infrared Links
2012
A promising technology for peer-to-peer connections and urban area networks is represented by wireless communications through free space using optical carrier (Free Space Optics, FSO). This technology ensures high data rates, with relatively low error rates, low power consumption and inherent security. Nevertheless FSO links are quite sensitive to atmospheric condition. Fog droplets, but also raindrops and snowflakes, may introduce severe path attenuation which drastically reduces the channel availability. A parametric model to simulate droplets scattering effects over the FSO link in terms of extinction coefficient, albedo factor and asymmetry coefficient as function of the particle water …
Three-photon resonance ionization of atomic Mn in a hot-cavity laser ion source using Ti:sapphire lasers
2015
Three-photon resonance ionization of atomic manganese (Mn) in a hot-cavity ion source using Ti:sapphire lasers has been demonstrated. Three-step ionization schemes employing different intermediate levels and Rydberg or autoionizing (AI) states in the final ionization step are established. Strong AI resonances were observed via the 3d54s5s f 6S5/2 level at 49 415.35 cm−1, while Rydberg transitions were reached from the 3d54s4d e 6D9/2,7/2,5/2 levels at around 47 210 cm−1. Analyses of the strong Rydberg transitions associated with the 3d54s4d e 6D7/2 lower level indicate that they belong to the dipole-allowed 4d → nf 6F°9/2,7/2,5/2 series converging to the 3d54s 7S3 ground state of Mn II. Fro…
A relationship between tolerance to dehydration of rice cell lines and ability for ABA synthesis under stress
2005
Plant dehydration is commonly caused by some adverse environmental conditions such as salinity, drought and freezing. As the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is involved in responses to water stress, we studied its putative relationship with the degree of tolerance to these abiotic stresses. For this purpose we used cell lines that had been established from mature embryos of rice (Oryza sativa L, cvs. Bahia and Bomba), and selected by their high (L-T) or low (L-S) levels of tolerance to each type of stress. Tolerance of rice calli to either osmotic, saline, or freezing stress was generally improved by a previous treatment with ABA. This ABA effect was evident in those callus lines with low…
Biodegradable tablets having a matrix of low molecular weight poly-L-lactic acid and poly-D,L-lactic acid.
1990
Biodegradable Homo- and Copolymers of lactic and glycolic acids have been used for manufacture of microparticles and matrix implants1,5). To ensure sufficient hydrolytic matrix stability lactic acids of high and medium degree of polymerization have been used. The manufacture of poly lactic acid tablets with an average molecular weight of 25000 and 6000 was reported recently, after finishing the following study2). Bioabbaubare Gerusttabletten aus niedermolekularer poly-L-Milchsaure und poly-D,L-Milchsaure
