Eiropas Savienības Austrumu partnerības iniciatīvas instrumentu loma Moldovas eiropeizācijas procesā

2016

Antimicrobial Activity of Resveratrol Analogues

2014

Stilbenes, especially resveratrol and its derivatives, have become famous for their positive effects on a wide range of medical disorders, as indicated by a huge number of published studies. A less investigated area of research is their antimicrobial properties. A series of 13 trans-resveratrol analogues was synthesized via Wittig or Heck reactions, and their antimicrobial activity assessed on two different grapevine pathogens responsible for severe diseases in the vineyard. The entire series, together with resveratrol, was first evaluated on the zoospore mobility and sporulation level of Plasmopara viticola (the oomycete responsible for downy mildew). Stilbenes displayed a spectrum of acti…

Ferritin Metabolism Reflects Multiple Myeloma Microenvironment and Predicts Patient Outcome

2023

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy with a multistep evolutionary pattern, in which the pro-inflammatory and immunosuppressive microenvironment and genomic instability drive tumor evolution. MM microenvironment is rich in iron, released by pro-inflammatory cells from ferritin macromolecules, which contributes to ROS production and cellular damage. In this study, we showed that ferritin increases from indolent to active gammopathies and that patients with low serum ferritin had longer first line PFS (42.6 vs. 20.7 months and, p = 0.047, respectively) and OS (NR vs. 75.1 months and p = 0.029, respectively). Moreover, ferritin levels correlated with systemic inflammation markers …

Influence of poloxamers on the dissolution performance and stability of controlled-release formulations containing Precirol® ATO 5

2005

Abstract Lipid excipients are usually used for the development of sustained-release formulations. When used in relatively high quantities, Precirol ® ATO 5 imparts sustained-release properties to solid oral dosage forms, by forming a lipid matrix. To control or adjust the drug release kinetics from such lipid matrix however, one must often resort to complementary ingredients or techniques. This study investigates the influence of poloxamers (Lutrol ® ) included in lipid matrices composed of glyceryl palmitostearate (Precirol ® ATO 5) on their dissolution performance and their stability. The addition of these hydrophilic polymers in the lipid matrix increased the amount of theophylline relea…

Effects of innovative and conventional sanitizing treatments on the reduction of Saccharomycopsis fibuligera defects on industrial durum wheat bread

2016

Wickerhamomyces anomalus, Hyphopichia burtonii and Saccharomycopsis fibuligera are spoilage yeasts causing chalk mold defects on sliced bread packaged under modified atmosphere. The first objective of this study, carried out in a bread-making company for two consecutive years, was to genetically identify yeasts isolated from spoiled sliced bread in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and to determine the dominant species among identified strains. The second objective was to evaluate the effects of hydrogen peroxide and silver solution 12% (HPS) treatment in the leavening cells and cooling chambers, in comparison with the conventional Ortho-Phenylphenol (OPP) fumigating treatment, on the inc…

Venantius Fortunatus - muistumat Ermoldus Nigelluksen eepoksessa Carmen in honorem Hludowichi Caesaris

2010

Carmen in honorem Hludowichi Caesaris on neljään kirjaan jakautuva, elegiseen mittaan kirjoitettu eepos, joka kuvaa Ludwig Hurskaan hallintokautta 800-luvun alusta 820-luvulle. Sen kirjoitti Ermoldus Nigellus -niminen kirkonmies tavoitteenaan päästä teoksen avulla maanpaosta. Ermolduksen kirjoituksista on säilynyt lisäksi kaksi Ludwigin pojalle Pippinille omistettua runokirjettä. Yksi tärkeimmistä Ermolduksen malleista oli Venantius Fortunatus (n. v. 540–600), joka tunnetaan parhaiten merovingikuninkaita ylistävästä panegyriikasta, Pyhän Martin (Martinus) runomuotoisesta elämäkerrasta sekä hymneistä Pange lingua ja Vexilla regis prodeunt. Karolingikaudella Venantiuksen runoja pidettiin arvo…

Effect of the processing techniques on the properties of ecocomposites based on vegetable oil-derived Mater-Bi® and wood flour

2009

Polymer composites based on biodegradable polymers and natural-organic fillers are becoming more and more important because of their interesting properties in terms of environmental impact, manufacturing cost, and esthetic features. In particular, the use of biodegradable polymer matrices allows obtaining a full biodegradability. One of the most interesting biodegradable polymer families is the Mater-Bi® one. In this work, we investigated the processability, the influence of different processing techniques, and the influence of the filler particle size on the properties of Mater-Bi/wood flour composites. Injection molding caused a partial degradation of the macromolecular chains, whereas si…

Estimation of the tensile strength of an oriented flax fiber-reinforced polymer composite

2011

Unidirectional orientation of natural fibers in a polymer composite ensures the highest efficiency of reinforcement. Flax fiber reinforcement is discontinuous due to limited fiber length and heterogeneous due to the presence of elementary fibers and their bundles. In order to assess the upper limit of tensile strength of such slightly misoriented, nominally UD natural fiber composite, a statistical strength model of continuous UD fiber reinforced composites is applied. It is found that the experimental strength of UD flax composites, produced from rovings or manually aligned fibers, approaches the theoretical limit only at relatively low fiber volume fraction ca. 0.2, being markedly below i…
