Kinetico-mechanistic studies of the acidolysis of Rh-C bonds in monocyclometallated dirhodium(II) acetato complexes; influence of electronic and ster…
2011
The protonation/demetallation reaction, in CD(3)COOD, of phosphine monometallated triacetato-bridged dirhodium(ii) complexes of general formulae [Rh(2)(μ-OOCCH(3))(3){(RC(5)CH(3))P(RC(6)H(4))(2)}(2)] has been studied from a kinetico-mechanistic perspective. The process has been monitored via the disappearance of the nuclear magnetic resonance signals of the protons present in the non-metallated ortho positions of the phosphine ligand and taking advantage of the relatively fast back metallation process that follows the acidolysis reaction, the sequence behaving as an overall equilibrium reaction. The process has a high associative character with important entropy demands, increasing both for…
Weak Interactions Modulating the Dimensionality in Supramolecular Architectures in Three New Nickel(II)-Hydrazone Complexes, Magnetostructural Correl…
2011
Three different ONO donor acetyl hydrazone Schiff bases have been synthesized from the condensation of acetic hydrazide with three different carbonyl compounds: salicylaldehyde (HL(1)), 2-hydroxyacetophenone (HL(2)), and 2, 3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (HL(3)). These tridentate ligands are reacted with Ni(OOCCF(3))(2)·xH(2)O to yield three new Ni(II) complexes having distorted octahedral geometry at each Ni center: [Ni(L(1))(OOCCF(3))(CH(3)OH)](2) (1), [Ni(L(2))(OOCCF(3))(H(2)O)](2) (2), and [Ni(L(3))(L(3)H)](OOCCF(3))(H(2)O)(1.65)(CH(3)OH)(0.35) (3). The ligands and the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis and IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, and the structures of the complexes ha…
DNA interaction of new copper(II) complexes with sulfonamides as ligands
2007
New copper(II) complexes with sulfonamide ligands have been prepared and characterized. Sulfonamide ligands were prepared through a reaction between 8-aminoquinoline and either 2-mesitylene (Hqmesa), 4-tert-butylbenzene (Hqtbsa), or alpha-toluene (Halphaqtsa) sulfonyl chlorides. The structural analysis carried out for complex [Cu(alphaqtsa)(2)] indicated that the local environment of the Cu(II) cation is between a square planar and a tetrahedral geometry, with stacking of the benzene rings of the sulfonyl ligands between neighbor molecules. Powder EPR spectra at room temperature gave rhombic spectra for the [Cu(alphaqtsa)(2)] and [Cu(qmesa)(2)] complexes and an axial spectrum for the [Cu(qt…
Probing the non-innocent nature of an amino-functionalised β-diketiminate ligand in silylene/iminosilane systems.
2020
Electron-rich β-diketiminate ligands, featuring amino groups at the backbone β positions (“N-nacnac” ligands) have been employed in the synthesis of a range of silylene (SiII) complexes of the type (N-nacnac)SiX (where X = H, Cl, N(SiMe3)2, P(SiMe3)2 and Si(SiMe3)3). A combination of experimental and quantum chemical approaches reveals (i) that in all cases rearrangement to give an aza-butadienyl SiIV imide featuring a contracted five-membered heterocycle is thermodynamically favourable (and experimentally viable); (ii) that the kinetic lability of systems of the type (N-nacnac)SiX varies markedly as a function of X, such that compounds of this type can be isolated under ambient conditions …
Dispersion Forces and Counterintuitive Steric Effects in Main Group Molecules: Heavier Group 14 (Si-Pb) Dichalcogenolate Carbene Analogues with Sub-9…
2013
The synthesis and spectroscopic and structural characterization of an extensive series of acyclic, monomeric tetrylene dichalcogenolates of formula M(ChAr)2 (M = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb; Ch = O, S, or Se; Ar = bulky m-terphenyl ligand, including two new acyclic silylenes) are described. They were found to possess several unusual features-the most notable of which is their strong tendency to display acute interligand, Ch-M-Ch, bond angles that are often well below 90°. Furthermore, and contrary to normal steric expectations, the interligand angles were found to become narrower as the size of the ligand was increased. Experimental and structural data in conjunction with high-level DFT calculations, in…
Pyrrolidine in Drug Discovery: A Versatile Scaffold for Novel Biologically Active Compounds
2021
AbstractThe five-membered pyrrolidine ring is one of the nitrogen heterocycles used widely by medicinal chemists to obtain compounds for the treatment of human diseases. The great interest in this saturated scaffold is enhanced by (1) the possibility to efficiently explore the pharmacophore space due to sp3-hybridization, (2) the contribution to the stereochemistry of the molecule, (3) and the increased three-dimensional (3D) coverage due to the non-planarity of the ring—a phenomenon called “pseudorotation”. In this review, we report bioactive molecules with target selectivity characterized by the pyrrolidine ring and its derivatives, including pyrrolizines, pyrrolidine-2-one, pyrrolidine-2…
Role of hydrophobicity on the monoamine receptor binding affinities of central nervous system drugs: a quantitative retention-activity relationships …
2004
Abstract Biological action and activity reflect an aspect of the fundamental physicochemical properties of the bioactive compounds. As an alternative to classical QSAR studies, in this work different quantitative retention–activity relationships (QRAR) models are proposed, which are able to describe the role of hydrophobicity on the binding affinity to different brain monoamine receptors (H 1 -histamine, α 1 -noradrenergic and 5-HT 2 -serotonergic) of different families of psychotherapeutic drugs. The retention of compounds is measured in a biopartitioning micellar chromatography (BMC) system using Brij-35 mobile phases. The adequacy of the QRAR models developed is due to the fact that both…
Evidence that steric factors modulate reactivity of tautomeric iron-oxo species in stereospecific alkane C-H hydroxylation
2014
A new iron complex mediates stereospecific hydroxylation of alkyl C-H bonds with hydrogen peroxide, exhibiting excellent efficiency. Isotope labelling studies provide evidence that the relative reactivity of tautomerically related oxo-iron species responsible for the C-H hydroxylation reaction is dominated by steric factors This work has been supported by the European Union (the Erasmus Mundus program), the International Research Training Group Metal Sites in Biomolecules: Structures, Regulation and Mechanisms (www.biometals.eu), and COST Action CM1003. Thiophene based imino-pyridyl palladium(II) complexes : Synthesis, molecular structures and Heck coupling reactions
2017
Abstract The new compounds (5-methyl-2-thiophene-2-pyridyl(R))imine [R = methyl (L1); R = ethyl (L2)] and (5-bromo-2-thiophene-2-pyridyl(R)imine [R = methyl (L3); R = ethyl (L4)] were successfully synthesized via Schiff base condensation reaction and obtained in good yields. These potential ligands were reacted with [PdCl2(COD)] and [PdClMe(COD)] to give the corresponding complexes [PdCl2(L)] (L = L1-L4; 1–4) and [PdClMe(L)] (L = L1-L4; 5–8). All compounds were characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and mass spectrometry. The molecular structures of 1, 2, 6 and 8 were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The complexes were evaluated as catalyst precursors for st…
Sterol Composition in Infant Formulas and Estimated Intake.
2015
Sterol contents in infant formulas (IFs) from the European market were determined, and their intakes by infants between 0 and 6 months were evaluated. Total animal sterols (mg/100 mL) ranged from 1.71 to 5.46, cholesterol being the main animal sterol (1.46-5.1). In general, cholesterol and desmosterol were lower than the human milk (HM) values indicated by other authors. Total plant sterol (mg/100 mL) ranged from 3.1 to 5.0. β-Sitosterol, the most abundant phytosterol, ranged from 1.82 to 3.01, followed by campesterol (0.72-1.15), stigmasterol (0.27-0.53), and brassicasterol (0.14-0.28). Cholesterol intake (mg/day) ranged from 9 to 51 and plant sterol intake (mg/day) from 19 to 50. The ster…
