Biomonitoring pasywny terenów leśnych w gminie Twardogóra

Celem przeprowadzonych badań była ocena poziomu zanieczyszczenia wybranymi metalami ciężkimi: Zn, Ni, Cd i Pb terenów leśnych gminy Twardogóra. Miasto Twardogóra położone jest w północno-wschodniej części województwa dolnośląskiego, lasy stanowią 44% całej powierzchni gminy. Porosty Hypogymnia physodes oraz mchy Pleurozium schreberi pobrane zostały z 32 miejsc zlokalizowanych w pobliżu wsi Gola, Goszcz, Grabowno Wielkie oraz Sosnówka. Wybrane metale ciężkie (Ni, Zn, Cd i Pb) oznaczono metodą absorpcyjnej spektroskopii atomowej. A biomonitoring survey, above tree line level, using two endemic species (Senecio aethnensis and Rumex aethnensis)was performed on Mt. Etna, in order to evaluate the dispersion and the impact of volcanic atmospheric emissions. Samples of leaves were collected in summer 2008 from 30 sites in the upper part of the volcano (1500-3000 m a.s.l). Acid digestion of samples was carried out with a microwave oven, and 44 elements were analyzed by using plasma spectrometry (ICP-MS and ICP-OES). Application of the moss bag biomonitoring technique in an active volcanic environment (Mt. Etna, Italy).

This paper presents the preliminary results of a biomonitoring study based on the use of moss bags exposed at 24 sites on Etna volcano. Sphagnum mosses were used to study bioaccumulation originating from atmospheric deposition, by measuring the tissue contents of major and a large suite of trace elements. Elements, such as Tl, Bi, As, Se, Cu and Cd, display high concentrations in the exposed samples close to the active vents. This study confirms the effectiveness of the moss bags technique also in active volcanic areas.

Health Risk Assessment of Exposure to 15 Essential and Toxic Elements in Spanish Women of Reproductive Age: A Case Study

This case study investigates the exposure of 119 Spanish women of reproductive age to 5 essential (Co, Cu, Mn, V, Zn) and 10 toxic (Ba, Be, Cs, Ni, Pb, Pt, Sb, Th, Al, U) elements and assesses their risk. The essential elements (Co, Cu, Mn, V, and Zn) showed average concentrations (GM: geometric mean) of 0.8, 35, 0.5, 0.2, and 347 μg/L, respectively. Five of the toxic elements (Ba, Cs, Ni, Al, U) exhibited detection frequencies of 100%. The GM concentrations of the novel toxic elements were 12 μg/L (Al), 0.01 μg/L (Pt), 0.02 μg/L (U), 0.12 μg/L (Th), 0.009 μg/L (Be) and 4 μg/L (Cs). Pilsētas vides piesārņojumu var novērtēt dažādos veidos un viens no visbiežāk izmantotajiem ir sūnu biomonitorings. Līdz šim vēl nav atklāti un noskaidroti vienoti standarti par sūnu biomonitoringa efektīvāku izmantošanu. Nav arī vienota pētījuma par augsnes piesārņojuma ietekmi uz augu sugu daudzveidību. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot pilsētas vides piesārņotības pakāpes izvērtējumu, izmantojot sūnas un augsni kā bioindikatorus, un noteikt augu sugu daudzveidību atkarībā no augsnes piesārņojuma. Abstract This study focuses on the calibration of the effective vegetation scattering albedo (ω) and surface soil roughness parameters (H R , and N Rp , p = H,V) in the Soil Moisture (SM) retrieval from L-band passive microwave observations using the L-band Microwave Emission of the Biosphere (L-MEB) model. In the current Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) Level 2 (L2), v620, and Level 3 (L3), v300, SM retrieval algorithms, low vegetated areas are parameterized by ω = 0 and H R = 0.1, whereas values of ω = 0.06 − 0.08 and H R = 0.3 are used for forests.
