Reclaiming the Stroop Effect Back From Control to Input-Driven Attention and Perception

According to a growing consensus, the Stroop effect is understood as a phenomenon of conflict and cognitive control. A tidal wave of recent research alleges that incongruent Stroop stimuli generate conflict, which is then managed and resolved by top-down cognitive control. We argue otherwise: control studies fail to account for major Stroop results obtained over a century-long history of research. We list some of the most compelling developments and show that no control account can serve as a viable explanation for major Stroop phenomena and that there exist more parsimonious explanations for other Stroop related phenomena. Abstract The present study used a sample of 365 children to investigate the longitudinal associations between maternal homework assistance (i.e., help, monitoring, and autonomy granting) and children's task-persistent behavior in learning situations from grade 2 to grade 4 of elementary school. Also, the extent to which task-persistent behavior plays a role in the links between parental homework assistance and children's academic performance was examined. Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy System Validation for Simultaneous EEG-FNIRS Measurements

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) applied to brain monitoring has been gaining increasing relevance in the last years due to its not invasive nature and the capability to work in combination with other well–known techniques such as the EEG. The possible use cases span from neural-rehabilitation to early diagnosis of some neural diseases. In this work a wireline FPGA–based fNIRS system, that use SiPM sensors and dual-wavelength LED sources, has been designed and validated to work with a commercial EEG machine without reciprocal interference.
Determination of Drug Concentrations in Serum and Dopamine Receptor Occupancy in Brain for Optimal Antipsychotic Drug Therapy

Evidence has been given that antipsychotic effects of dopamine receptor antagonists are associated with 60 and 80% striatal dopamine D2 and D3 receptor occupancy. Receptor occupancy correlates well with concentrations of the antipsychotic drugs in serum or plasma, much better than the dose. The latter is consistent with weak correlations between antipsychotic dose and serum concentrations and explained by the high interindividual variabilities in drug metabolism. Abstract For the clarification of pulmonary impairment after medullary nailing of femoral fractures, the intramedullary pressure in the femoral cavity during the operative procedure was investigated. RationaleIn France, the transfer of patients with an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) from one centre to another is usually done by SMUR, with on-board medical staff. However, SMUR is not always available.
