Robinia aurata n. g., n. sp. (Digenea: Hemiuridae) from the mugilid Liza aurata with a molecular confirmation of its position within the Hemiuroidea.

Robinia aurata n. g., n. sp. is described from Liza aurata (Mugilidae), the golden grey mullet, from the Ebro Delta, Spanish Mediterranean. The new genus differs from all other hemiurid genera in the combined possession of muscular flanges and a vestigial ecsoma. Within the Bunocotylinae, which currently accommodates 2 genera, Bunocotyle and Saturnius, the new genus exhibits a unique combination of blind caeca, Juel's organ, post-ovarian bulk of the uterus in the hind-body, and tegumental papillae surrounding the oral and ventral sucker apertures. A simple strategy based on photobiotin irradiation for the photoelectrochemical immobilization of proteins on electrode surfaces

Abstract A photoactivable organic polymer was prepared first by electrogeneration of a conductive biotinylated polypyrrole film in acetonitrile electrolyte. The successive anchoring of avidin and photobiotin led to a multilayer configuration. The latter was illuminated with light (wavelength 370–400 nm) in the presence of proteins adsorbed onto its surface. The irradiation allowed the covalent linking of the proteins to the modified electrode. As a result of the photochemical reaction, a monolayer of enzyme (glucose oxidase, GOX or alkaline phosphatase, AP) was covalently bound to the photobiotin-modified surface with retention of their catalytic activities. Prevalence of Listeria sp. in droppings from urban rooks (Corvus frugilegus)

Droppings from 112 urban rooks (Corvus frugilegus) were cultured for the presence of Listeria sp. Overall, 46% of rooks sampled harboured one or more Listeria species. Of all birds examined, 33%, 24% and 8%, respectively, were infected with Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria innocua and Listeria seeligeri. Differentiation of L. monocytogenes and L. seeligeri carried out by several phenotypic typing methods proved the diversity of strains and the major role of rooks which widely contribute to spreading this bacteria in our environment. In the visual process, one photoexcited rhodopsin (R*) catalyzes the activation of hundreds of G-proteins. It remains to be determined whether G-protein and R* find one another by membrane surface diffusion of these components (diffusion model) or by diffusion of G-protein through the aqueous phase (hopping model). During the past few decades intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been used successfully in the treatment of various immunoregulatory disorders. Treatment results have been attributed to immunomodulation mainly via Fc receptors or by anti-idiotypic antibodies to disease-causing autoantibodies. From the present study it is clearly evident that 7S IVIG (intact immunoglobulin) as well as 5S IVIG [F(ab')2 fragments] and Fc fragments have a potent immunomodulatory capacity. Force probe measurements of antibody-antigen interactions.

The surface force apparatus has been used to quantify directly the forces that govern the interactions between proteins and ligands. In this work, we describe the measured interactions between the antigen fluorescein and the Fab' fragment of the monoclonal 4-4-20 anti-fluorescyl IgG antibody. Here we first describe the use of the surface force apparatus to demonstrate directly the impact of the charge composition in the region of the antibody binding site on the antibody interactions. On Harvestmen from the Soutpansberg, South Africa, with Description of a New Species ofMonomontia(Arachnida: Opiliones)

The harvestman fauna of the Western Soutpansberg was investigated during two collecting trips. Comments are made on the variability, ecology and remarkable morphological features of the collected material. Characters are displayed and differences to type series are highlighted. Monomontia neglecta sp. n. is described from material housed at the Natal Museum. Metabiantes leighi Pocock, 1902 is recorded for the first time for the Soutpansberg area. A species list is provided, listing all known records and the state of endemism. The relative species richness of the eastern Soutpansberg is discussed in comparison with the western area.
