Sinophysis and Pseudophalacroma are Distantly Related to Typical Dinophysoid Dinoflagellates (Dinophysales, Dinophyceae)
2011
Dinophysoid dinoflagellates are usually considered a large monophyletic group. Large subunit and small subunit (SSU) rDNA phylogenies suggest a basal position for Amphisoleniaceae (Amphisolenia,Triposolenia) with respect to two sister groups, one containing most Phalacroma species plus Oxyphysis and the other Dinophysis,Ornithocercus, Dinophysoid dinoflagellates are usually considered a large monophyletic group. Mechanisms of endothelial cell activation by endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol
2020
Abstract Background Endothelial dysfunction promotes atherogenesis, vascular inflammation, and thrombus formation. Reendothelialization after angioplasty is required in order to restore vascular function and to prevent stent thrombosis. The endocannabinoid (eCB) 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is a known modulator of inflammation. Earlier studies have demonstrated the relevance of this endocannabinoid in human pathophysiology during coronary artery disease and in murine experimental atherogenesis. However, evidence on the impact of 2-AG on endothelial cell function remains scarce. Methods Endothelial repair was studied in two treatment groups of wildtype mice following electrical denudation o…
Coupures morphologiques et biochronologie chez les Kosmoceratinae de l'Est de la France (Callovien inférieur pp. à Callovien supérieur pp.)
1998
Abstract For the first time in eastern France, a detailed succession of the uppermost Lower Callovian to Lower Upper Callovian Kosmoceratinae is presented, according to the fossils collected in situ at Blye (Jura, France). It is compared with the abundant data from Champagne and Bourgogne. These ammonites may allow more accurate correlations between the subboreal and subtethysian biostratigraphical frameworks. They record numerous morphological changes, sometimes different from those generally accepted. They allow the precise recognition of the limits of the biostratigraphical units, and the definition of successive faunal units available in the lowermost Upper Callovian.
Correlations among fruit traits and evolution of different fruits within Melastomataceae
2000
Abstract The anatomy and morphology of nearly mature fruits in 85 mainly palaeotropical species of Melastomataceae were examined using microtome- and hand-sectioning, and differential staining. Much structural heterogeneity was observed in both capsules and berries. Multivariate analyses of 31 of the 52 characters recorded for each species, revealed that indehiscence is associated with fusion of ovary and hypanthium tissues, placenta persistence, lack of a persistent endocarp, and a dearth of sclereids in these tissues, while dehiscence is correlated with the opposite states and a persistent exocarp. Other fruit characters such as lignification or fleshiness of tissues do not show a consist…
The comparison of beta-thymosin homologues among metazoa supports an arthropod-nematode clade.
2000
The definition of an Ecdysozoa clade among the protostomians, including all phyla with a regularly molted alpha-chitin-rich cuticle, has been one of the most provocative hypotheses to arise from recent investigations on animal phylogeny. Here we present evidence in favor of an arthropod-nematode clade, from the comparison of beta-thymosin homologues among the Metazoa. Arthropods and nematodes share the absence of the highly conserved beta-thymosin form found in all other documented bilaterian phyla as well as sponges, and the possession of a very unusual, internally triplicated homologue of the beta-thymosin protein, unknown in other phyla. We argue that such discrete molecular character is…
The Phylogenetic Analysis of Variable-Length Sequence Data: Elongation Factor–1α Introns in European Populations of the Parasitoid Wasp Genus Pauesia…
2001
Elongation factor-1alpha (EF-1alpha) is a highly conserved nuclear coding gene that can be used to investigate recent divergences due to the presence of rapidly evolving introns. However, a universal feature of intron sequences is that even closely related species exhibit insertion and deletion events, which cause variation in the lengths of the sequences. Indels are frequently rich in evolutionary information, but most investigators ignore sites that fall within these variable regions, largely because the analytical tools and theory are not well developed. We examined this problem in the taxonomically problematic parasitoid wasp genus Pauesia (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) using con…
The compound internal pyrenoid in cultured cells of the green algaMonoraphidium griffithii (Berkel.) Komar.-Legner.
1979
The chloroplast ultrastructure ofMonoraphidium griffithii (Berkel.) Komar.-Legner. has been studied in axenic cultures of various ages. The algae have grown in a complete nutrient solution (illumination about 3,000 lx) and on its agar medium (illumination about 600 lx). The large parietal cup-shaped chloroplast of the cells includes a multiformed compound internal pyrenoid that is situated, especially in older cells, in the central part of the chloroplast opposite to the dictyosome and the nucleus. The chloroplast thylakoids either reach the edge of the pyrenoid or penetrate its matrix and run there parallel in more or less long bits. Starch grains were not found to form any sheath around t…
Structure-immunogenicity relationship of kresoxim-methyl regioisomeric haptens
2013
Kresoxim-methyl was one of the two first strobilurins to be discovered, and nowadays it is widely used as an antifungal agent in crop protection. Because of its low molecular weight and negligible structural complexity, the generation of antibodies to kresoxim-methyl noticeably requires the preparation of functionalized haptens. In this study, the introduction of a hydrocarbon spacer arm at the aromatic moieties of the target molecule was carried out by a convergent strategy based on the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction, and functionalized linkers of the same length were also tethered to the aliphatic toxophore group by the O-alkylation reaction. Evaluation of the immune response, in ter…
