Epoxide Hydrolase Isoenzymes and their Individual Contribution to the Control of Toxic Metabolites

1991

Epoxides are highly strained three membered cyclic ethers which are formed in vivo by the microsomal cytochrome P450 dependent monooxygenases as intermediates of several important biosynthetic pathways (leukotriene A4, squalene 2, 3-oxide) and as metabolites of numerous xenobiotic compounds containing olefinic or aromatic double bonds. Further transformation of these epoxides may occur by either, rearrangement to phenols, aliphatic aldehydes, or ketones; by cytochrome P450 dependent reduction to the parent compound; or by spontaneous or enzymatic conjugation to gluta-thione. Epoxides may also bind covalently to cellular nucleophiles, such as proteins and nucleic acids thus eliciting carcino…

In-vitro Proteoglykansynthese in redifferenzierten Chondrozyten

1989

Human chondrocytes growing in monolayer cultures de-differentiate and produce type I collagen. They re-differentiate and resume their in-vivo characteristics (including the production of type II collagen) when cultured in an agarose-gel. To characterize the modulated cells in more detail, biochemical studies were performed in chondrocytes suspended in agarose for 1 to 3 weeks.

Catalytic combustion of ethane over high surface area Ln1−xKxMnO3 (Ln = La, Nd) perovskites: The effect of potassium substitution

1997

Publisher Summary As a general trend, the substitution of the rare earth cation by potassium decreased the intrinsic activity, reduced the reaction order in oxygen, and, for the more substituted samples (x>0.10), it increased the selectivity to ethene. Supported platinum or palladium catalysts have so far been used almost exclusively, because of their excellent activity. However, their high price, tendency to be poisoned, and volatility in some applications have estimulated the search for suitable substitutes. LaCoO3, as a potential auto exhaust catalyst, starting a wide interest in the catalytic properties of perovskites. Their specific application as catalysts in flameless combustion has …

The electrochemistry of carbon monoxide reductive cyclotetramerization to squarate anion

1978

Abstract The electrochemical reduction, of carbon monoxide to C4O2−4 squarate anion is investigated. Particular attention is devoted to the influence that solvents, electrolytes, electrodes and carbon monoxide pressure have on the yields. The main feature appears to be that strictly controlled conditions are not necessary for cyclotetramerization. In dmf — Bu4NBr the following yields vs reacted CO and circulated charge were obtained with different cathodes: Pt(49%, 34%); Au(48%, 29%); Al(47%, 38%); stainless steel (36%, 33%); graphite (39%, 31%). A distinct influence of the supporting electrolyte (inorganic and tetraalkylammonium halides) was however observed.

Photochemistry of the H2O/CO System Revisited : The HXeOH···CO Complex in a Xenon Matrix

2017

We report on the complex of a noble-gas hydride HXeOH with carbon monoxide. This species is prepared via the annealing-induced H + Xe + OH···CO reaction in a xenon matrix, the OH···CO complexes being produced by VUV photolysis of the H2O···CO complexes. The H–Xe stretching mode of the HXeOH···CO complex absorbs at 1590.3 cm–1 and it is blue-shifted by 12.7 cm–1 from the H–Xe stretching band of HXeOH monomer. The observed blue shift indicates the stabilization of the H–Xe bond upon complexation, which is characteristic of complexes of noble-gas hydrides. The HXeOH···CO species is the first complex of a noble-gas hydride with carbon monoxide and the second observed complex of HXeOH. On the ba…

Polynuclear copper(II) complexes with μ2-1,1-azide bridges. Structural and magnetic properties

1996

Abstract Two novel, weakly antiferromagnetically coupled, tetranuclear copper(II) complexes [Cu4(PAP)2(μ2-1,1-N3)2(μ2-1,3-N3)2(μ2-CH3OH)2(N3)4 (1) (PAP = 1,4-bis-(2′-pyridylamino)phthalazine) and [Cu4(PAP3Me)2 (μ2-1,1-N3)2(μ2-1,3-N3)2(H2O)2(NO2)2]- (NO3)2 (2) (PAP3Me = 1,4-bis-(3′-methyl-2′-pyridyl)aminophthalazine) contain a unique structural with two μ2-1,1-azide intramolecular bridges, and two μ2-1,3-azide intermolecular bridges linking pairs of copper(II) centers. Four terminal azide groups complete the five-coordinate structures in 1, while two terminal waters and two nitrates complete the coordination spheres in 2. The dinuclear complexes [Cu2(PPD)(μ2-1,1-N3)(N3)2(CF3SO3)]CH3OH) (3) a…

(±)- BIGI-3h: Pentatarget-Directed Ligand combining Cholinesterase, Monoamine Oxidase, and Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3β Inhibition with Calcium Channe…

2021

Multitarget-directed ligands (MTDLs) are considered a promising therapeutic strategy to address the multifactorial nature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Novel MTDLs have been designed as inhibitors of human acetylcholinesterases/butyrylcholinesterases, monoamine oxidase A/B, and glycogen synthase kinase 3β and as calcium channel antagonists via the Biginelli multicomponent reaction. Among these MTDLs, (±)-BIGI-3h was identified as a promising new hit compound showing in vitro balanced activities toward the aforementioned recognized AD targets. Additional in vitro studies demonstrated antioxidant effects and brain penetration, along with the ability to inhibit the aggregation of both τ protein…
