Systematics and phylogeography of the genus Tigriopus (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Harpacticidae) in the basin of the Mediterranean Sea
2020
Incorporation of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8)-derived nanoporous carbons in methacrylate polymeric monoliths for capillary electrochromatog…
2017
A series of metal organic frameworks-derived nanoporous carbons originating from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) crystals as precursors have been prepared via varying the preparation conditions. The ZIF-8-derived carbons were subsequently admixed in the methacrylate monomers containing polymerization mixtures and polymerized to obtain monolithic columns for capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The effect of particle size and content of the ZIF-8-derived carbon materials in the polymerization mixture on the performance of the hybrid monolithic columns was investigated in detail. The resulting composites were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. Using short time UV-ini…
Boronate affinity sorbents based on thiol-functionalized polysiloxane-polymethacrylate composite materials in syringe format for selective extraction…
2021
Abstract In this work, two novel boronate affinity monolithic materials able to extract glycopeptides within a polypropylene syringe are described and compared. The first material was synthesized from glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-based monoliths modified with poly-3-mercaptopropyl-methylsiloxane (PMPMS) followed by attachment of 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA) via thiol-ene click reaction. The second material was prepared by using gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-modified monoliths as substrate followed by subsequent attachment of PMPMS and VPBA. The resulting materials were used as sorbents for solid-phase extraction (SPE) to selectively preconcentrate glycopeptides from horseradish peroxidase (HR…
Characterization of microscopic disorder in reconstructed porous materials and assessment of mass transport-relevant structural descriptors
2016
The targeted optimization of the functional properties of porous materials includes the understanding of their transport properties and thus requires knowledge about the relationship between material synthesis, resulting in three-dimensional material morphology, and relevant transport properties. In this Perspective, we present our views and results on the characterization of microscopic disorder in functional porous materials, which are widely used today as fixed beds in adsorption, separation, and catalysis. This allows us to identify structural parameters that impact their mass transport properties and eventually their overall performance in technological operations. We address this comp…
Nanoparticle-Directed Metal–Organic Framework/Porous Organic Polymer Monolithic Supports for Flow-Based Applications
2017
A two-step nanoparticle-directed route for the preparation of macroporous polymer monoliths for which the pore surface is covered with a metal–organic framework (MOF) coating has been developed to facilitate the use of MOFs in flow-based applications. The flow-through monolithic matrix was prepared in a column format from a polymerization mixture containing ZnO-nanoparticles. These nanoparticles embedded in the precursor monolith were converted to MOF coatings via the dissolution–precipitation equilibrium after filling the pores of the monolith with a solution of the organic linker. Pore surface coverage with the microporous zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-8 resulted in an increase in su…
Numerical study of silicon crystal ridge growth
2014
Abstract The size of the ridge-like protrusions appearing on the external surface of dislocation-free 〈 100 〉 silicon crystals grown from a melt was studied theoretically. According to existing models the growth of the ridges is caused by the presence of { 111 } crystal planes at the crystal–melt interface. They affect the height of triple phase line, free surface orientation and the crystal growth angle. A numerical 2-dimensional model was proposed for the calculation of the size of the crystal ridges. The model included the effect of the undercooling of the crystal–melt interface on the crystal growth angle. The numerical model estimated the effect of the ridge size on the free surface at…
“Supported Co3O4-CeO2 monoliths: effect of preparation method and Pd-Pt promotion on the CO/CH4 oxidation activity”
2006
Abstract Two structured composite oxides, Co3O4(30wt%)-CeO2(70wt%), have been prepared by washcoating commercial cordierite monoliths with a CeO2-γAl2O3 layer, on which the active phase Co3O4-CeO2 was added through two different methods: dip-coating from a suspension containing the preformed active oxide or impregnation with a solution of the cobalt and cerium precursors. Morphological characterizations of the monoliths have been performed by BET, and SEM-EDAX analyses. Electronic and reduction properties have been evaluated by XPS and H2-TPR, respectively. The effect of the preparation method has been investigated in the catalytic oxidation of CO, whereas the promotion by a low content of …
The effect of the pore structure and zeta potential of porous polymer monoliths on separation performance in ion-exchange mode.
2007
Most often, in bioseparations involving charged macromolecules, the chromatographic systems have low Reynolds and high Peclet numbers. For such systems, an expression is developed and presented in this work for evaluating the throughput in polymeric monoliths where ion-exchange adsorption occurs, as a function of (i) the pressure drop along the length of the monolith, (ii) the functional form and width of the throughpore-size distribution of the monolith, and (iii) the magnitude of the zeta potential on the surface of the throughpores of the monolith. Gaussian and log-normal throughpore-size distributions whose mean throughpore-size and standard deviation values are based on experimentally …
Taxonomic uncertainty and a continental conundrum:Polypodium macaronesicumreassessed
2014
Data from the chloroplast trnL-F region are used to test the delimitation of putative diploid species in the Polypodium cambricum aggregate. In particular, we investigate the distinctiveness of the Macaronesian Polypodium macaronesicum, P. azoricum and the continental P. cambricum, investigate molecular diversity patterns within Macaronesia and establish the identity of putative P. macaronesicum material collected from an area in southern Spain, where it co-occurs with other Macaronesian elements. The analysis supports the distinction of Macaronesian and continental plants, with accessions from Macaronesia resolved as monophyletic. Greater haplotype diversity was found in Macaronesia than o…
SIGNIFICANCE FOR INTERNATIONAL CORRELATION OF THE PERAPERTÚ FORMATION IN NORTHERN PALENCIA, CANTABRIAN MOUNTAINS. TECTONIC/STRATIGRAPHIC CONTEXT AND …
2021
Small ammonoid assemblages are recorded from the Perapertú Formation in northern Palencia. This is a mudstone unit with local platform limestones characterised by carbonate debris flows on the limestone margins. This unit, of Late Bashkirian to Early Moscovian age, participates in a series of southwards verging thrust slicesNorth of a major fault zone which originated as the head (leading edge) of a large thrust sheet with an internal deformation consisting of thrust slices and at least one nappe structure. Opposed vergencies at the head of this major thrust sheet (Carrionas Thrust Front) and the Ruesga Fault which locally modifies its trace, mark the position where the northern branch of t…
