Marginal and internal fit evaluation of conventional metal-ceramic versus zirconia CAD/CAM crowns

2019

Background The purpose of this in vivo study was to compare the marginal and internal gap widths of monolithic zirconia crowns fabricated by CAD/CAM technique and metal-ceramic crowns fabricated by conventional technique. Material and methods 10 participants needing a single restoration were selected. Zirconia crowns using CAD/CAM technology (Group A) (n=10) and metal-ceramic crowns (Group B) (n=10) using lost wax casting technique were fabricated for each selected tooth. The marginal and internal gaps of crowns were recorded using a replica technique with light body silicone material stabilized with a regular set putty. Each replica was sectioned buccolingually and mesiodistally and then e…

Self-packed core shell nano liquid chromatography columns and silica-based monolithic trap columns for targeted proteomics.

2016

Self-preparation of nano liquid chromatography (nLC) columns has advantages regarding cost and flexibility. For targeted proteomics, we evaluated several approaches for particle-packing nLC columns and manufacturing fritless silica-based monolithic trap columns (50μm inner diameter). Our preferred approach for nLC column preparation was to magnetically stir Accucore core shell particles (C18 stationary phase) in ACN/water (80/20, v/v) suspensions during pressure-driven filling of polymer-fritted standard fused silica capillaries. The columns were ready for use about one hour after preparation had begun. They had comparable peak capacities (peptides) to commercial columns, and satisfactory w…

Design and implementation of PET detectors based on monolithic crystals and SiPMs

2018

Performance of a Chromolith RP-18e column for the screening of β-blockers

2009

The chromatographic performance of a monolithic column (Chromolith RP-18e) was comprehensively examined in the isocratic separation of ten beta-blockers, using ACN-water mobile phases, and compared with the performance of three microparticulate RP columns manufactured with different types of silica: Spherisorb ODS-2, Kromasil C18 and XTerra MS C18. The comparison considered the analysis time, selectivity, peak shape (column efficiency and asymmetry) and resolution, and was extended to a wide range of mobile phase compositions. The Chromolith column showed good performance for the analysis of beta-blockers with regard to the packed columns. In terms of selectivity and analysis time, the grea…

“A Miracle of Architecture”: The Billiemi limestone Columns of the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini in Palermo and Domenico Fontana’s Method for Li…

2014

Acrylate ester-based monolithic columns for capillary electrochromatography separation of triacylglycerols in vegetable oils

2011

Abstract A simple and reliable method for the evaluation of triacylglycerols (TAGs) in vegetable oils by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with UV–Vis detection, using octadecyl acrylate (ODA) ester-based monolithic columns, has been developed. The percentages of the porogenic solvents in the polymerization mixture, and the mobile phase composition, were optimized. The optimum monolith was obtained at the following ratios: 40:60% (wt/wt) monomers/porogens, 60:40% (wt/wt) ODA/1,3-butanediol diacrylate and 23:77% (wt/wt) 1,4-butanediol/1-propanol (14 wt% 1,4-butanediol in the polymerization mixture). A satisfactory resolution between TAGs was achieved in less than 12 min with a 65:35 (v/v…

Classification of extra virgin olive oils according to their geographical origin using phenolic compound profiles obtained by capillary electrochroma…

2009

Abstract A simple and reliable method for the evaluation of the phenolic fraction of extra virgin olive oils (EVOO) by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with UV–Vis detection, using lauryl acrylate (LA) ester-based monolithic columns, has been developed. The percentages of the porogenic solvents in the polymerization mixture, and the mobile phase composition, were optimized. The optimum monolith was obtained with a monomers/porogens ratio of 40:60% (wt/wt) using a LA/1,3-butanediol diacrylate ratio of 70:30% (wt/wt) and a 1,4-butanediol/1-propanol ratio of 25:75% (wt/wt). A satisfactory resolution between the phenolic compounds was achieved in less than 25 min with a 15:85 (v/v) ACN–wat…

Nanoscale Chemical Interaction Enhances the Physical Properties of Bioglass Composites

2013

Bioglasses are favorable biomaterials for bone tissue engineering; however, their applications are limited due to their brittleness. In addition, the early failure in the interface is a common problem of composites of bioglass and a polymer with high mechanical strength. This effect is due to the phase separation, nonhomogeneous mixture, nonuniform mechanical strength, and different degradation properties of two compounds. To address these issues, in this study a nanoscale interaction between poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and bioactive glass was formed via silane coupling agent (3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (MPMA). A monolith was produced at optimum composition from this hybrid …

Interpretive optimisation of organic solvent content and flow-rate in the separation of β-blockers with a Chromolith RP-18e column

2009

The chromatographic performance of a Chromolith RP-18e column was comprehensively examined for a group of basic drugs (beta-blockers), eluted with isocratic ACN-water mixtures at increasing flow-rate up to 6 mL/min. As the flow-rate increases at fixed mobile phase composition, peak distribution (selectivity) is maintained, but the relative peak widths increase. This reduces the resolution below satisfactory values for closely eluting compounds. With the monolithic column, flow-rate becomes thus an important factor to be optimised, in addition to the mobile phase composition. Since, theoretically, retention factors (k) are independent of the flow-rate, the classical quadratic model relating …
