Impact of pore structural parameters on column performance and resolution of reversed-phase monolithic silica columns for peptides and proteins
2007
In this work, monolithic silica columns with the C4, C8, and C18 chemistry and having various macropore diameters and two different mesopore diameters are studied to access the differences in the column efficiency under isocratic elution conditions and the resolution of selected peptide pairs under reversed-phase gradient elution conditions for the separation of peptides and proteins. The columns with the pore structural characteristics that provided the most efficient separations are then employed to optimize the conditions of a gradient separation of a model mixture of peptides and proteins based on surface chemistry, gradient time, volumetric flow rate, and acetonitrile concentration. Comparative fracture behavior of monolithic and veneered zirconia posterior fixed dental prostheses
2017
The purpose of this study was to evaluate and to compare the fracture load and the fracture pattern of monolithic and veneered zirconia posterior fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). Twenty standardized steel dies were prepared to receive posterior 3-unit FDPs. Specimens were randomly divided into 2 groups (n=10): (1) Lava Zirconia, and (2) Lava Plus. All FDPs were cemented using glass ionomer cement and subjected to thermal and mechanical cycling at 5-55ºC with a 30-s dwell time for 120,000 masticatory cycles. All specimens were subjected to a three-point bending test until fracture. Data were statistically analyzed using Student's t test, paired t-test and Weibull statistics (α=0.05). No diffe…
Effect of Thermomechanical and Static Loading on the Load to Fracture of Metal‐Ceramic, Monolithic and Veneered Zirconia Posterior Fixed Partial Dent…
2018
PURPOSE To evaluate the influence of static (not preloaded) and thermomechanical loading on the load to fracture of metal-ceramic, monolithic and veneered zirconia computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) posterior fixed partial dentures (FPDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred standardized specimens with 2 abutments screwed onto a platform were prepared from stainless steel to receive a posterior 3-unit FPD with an intermediate pontic. Specimens were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 20): Metal-ceramic (control group), Lava Zirconia system, Vita In-Ceram YZ, IPS e.max ZirCAD, and Lava Plus. Half of the specimens of each group (n = 10) underwent no preloading, and the…
Advantages of monolithic over particulate columns for multiresidue analysis of organic pollutants by in-tube solid-phase microextraction coupled to c…
2011
Abstract The performance of a monolithic C 18 column (150 mm × 0.2 mm i.d.) for multiresidue organic pollutants analysis by in-tube solid-phase microextraction (IT-SPME)-capillary liquid chromatography has been studied, and the results have been compared with those obtained using a particulate C 18 column (150 mm × 0.5 mm i.d., 5 μm). Chromatographic separation has been carried out under isocratic elution conditions, and for detection and identification of the analytes a UV-diode array detector has been employed. Several compounds of different chemical structure and hydrophobicity have been used as model compounds: simazine, atrazine and terbutylazine (triazines), chlorfenvinphos and chlorp…
Sensitive determination of parabens in human urine and serum using methacrylate monoliths and reversed-phase capillary liquid chromatography-mass spe…
2014
A method for the determination of parabens in human urine and serum by capillary liquid chromatography (cLC) with UV-Vis and mass spectrometry (MS) detection using methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns has been developed. The influence of composition of polymerization mixture was studied. The optimum monolith was obtained with butyl methacrylate monomer at 60/40% (wt/wt) butyl methacrylate/ethylene dimethacrylate ratio and 50wt% porogens (composed of 36wt% of 1,4-butanediol, 54wt% 1-propanol and 10wt% water). Baseline resolution of analytes was achieved through a mobile phase of acetonitrile/water in gradient elution mode. Additionally, dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME)…
In-tube solid-phase microextraction and liquid chromatography using a monolithic column for the selective determination of residual ethylenediamine i…
2009
The selective determination of the diamine ethylenediamine (EDA) in the presence of a higher amount of residual dimethylamine in cationic polymers has been developed. The strategy uses both a solution derivatization with a selective agent of primary amines such as o-phthaldialdehyde-N-acetyl-L-cysteine (OPA-NAC) and an in-tube solid-phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled to liquid chromatography (LC). A 70 cm long, 0.32 mm internal diameter, and 3 microm thick commercially available capillary column coated with 95% polydimethylsiloxane and 5% polydiphenylsiloxane was employed to replace the injection loop of a Rheodyne injection valve. A volume of 1 mL of derivatized sample was passed thro…
Evaluation of 2,3-epoxypropyl groups and functionalization yield in glycidyl methacrylate monoliths using gas chromatography
2014
Abstract Poly(glycidyl methacrylate- co -ethylene dimethacrylate) (poly(GMA- co -EDMA)) is most frequently used as parent monolith to obtain stationary phases with a variety of surface chemistries for liquid chromatography and capillary electrochromatography. Functionalization is performed by opening the accessible 2,3-epoxypropyl groups of the monolith with a suitable reagent. The number of 2,3-epoxypropyl groups which are accessible before and after the functionalization reaction, and the grafting yield, are important parameters, required both to optimize functionalization and to interpret the chromatographic performance of functionalized monoliths. In this work, a method capable of provi…
High resolution 80Se(n,γ) cross section measurement at CERN n_TOF and development of the novel i-TED detection system
2022
Quasifractal planar microstrip resonators for microwave circuits
1999
We propose a new shape for microwave planar circuits using the self-similarity of the fractal geometry. This new shape allows the generation of numerous resonant frequencies for this microwave planar resonator due to the surface's encasing. The resonant frequency assessment can be useful for the concept of filters or wide frequency band matching loads as examples, without consuming circuit surface. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A Novel Approach to the Characterization and Modelig of Microwave Transistor Packages
1994
A novel approach to the characterization and modeling of microwave transistor packages through dedicated VNA measurements is presented. By combining a multi-step partitioning method with the use of purposely realized - but technologically simple - "package style" test devices, the proposed technique permits to derive in a systematic manner an equivalent circuit for both the transistor package and the test-fixture mount employed for the characterization. Since it does not rely on the indirect, optimization-based, conventional extraction methods of the literature, nor on a simplified circuit structure for the overall parasitic fourport embedding the active device, it is able to provide a high…
