Search for a Dark Leptophilic Scalar in e(+) e(-) Collisions

2020

Many scenarios of physics beyond the standard model predict the existence of new gauge singlets, which might be substantially lighter than the weak scale. The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. At an e+e- collider, such a leptophilic scalar (φL) would be produced predominantly through radiation from a τ lepton. We report herein a search for e+e-→τ+τ-φL, φL→ℓ+ℓ- (ℓ=e, μ) using data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. No significant signal is observed, and we set limits on the φL coupling to leptons in the range 0.04<mφL<7.0 GeV. These bounds s…

PRODUCTION CHARACTERISTICS OF K-0 AND LIGHT MESON RESONANCES IN HADRONIC DECAYS OF THE Z(0)

1995

An analysis of inclusive production of K0and the meson resonances K*±(892), ρ0(770), f0(975) and f2(1270) in hadronic decays of the Z0is presented, based on about 973,000 multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. Overall multiplicities have been determined as 1.962±0.060 K0mesons, 0.712±0.067 K*±(892) and 1.21±0.15ρ0(770) per hadronic Z0decay. The average multiplicities of f0(975) for scaled momentum, xp, in the range 0.05≤xp≤0.6 and of f2(1270) for 0.05≤xp≤1.0 are 0.098±0.016 and 0.170±0.043 respectively. The f0(975) and ρ0(770)xp-spectra have similar shapes. The f2(1270)/ρ0(770) ratio increases with xp. The average multiplicities…

Integrated simulation and optimization models for tracking international fixed income indices

2001

Portfolio managers in the international fixed income markets must address jointly the interest rate risk in each market and the exchange rate volatility across markets. This paper develops integrated simulation and optimization models that address these issues in a common framework. Monte Carlo simulation procedures generate jointly scenarios of interest and exchange rates and, thereby, scenarios of holding period returns of the available securities. The portfolio manager’s risk tolerance is incorporated either through a utility function or a (modified) mean absolute deviation function. The optimization models prescribe asset allocation weights among the different markets and also resolve b…

Economic impact of Ice Thermal Energy Storage Systems in residential buildings in presence of double-tariffs contracts for electricity

2009

Thermal energy storage is one of the most important methods of demand-side load management, thanks to the capacity of reducing significantly the peak power demand for air conditioning in buildings. Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESS) are indeed used for producing and storing cooling capacity during off-peak hours (in particular during night hours) to meet the following day's air conditioning requirements. The current paper presents a study on the effects of the installation of Ice TESS for cooling on the power daily profile of residential buildings, and examines the economic repercussions on the electricity billing. With reference to this second theme, the paper examines, in particular, t…

Characterization of a neutron-beta counting system with beta-delayed neutron emitters

2016

Abstract A new detection system for the measurement of beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities has been characterized using fission products with well known β-delayed neutron emission properties. The setup consists of BELEN-20, a 4π neutron counter with twenty 3He proportional tubes arranged inside a large polyethylene neutron moderator, a thin Si detector for β counting and a self-triggering digital data acquisition system. The use of delayed-neutron precursors with different neutron emission windows allowed the study of the effect of energy dependency on neutron, β and β–neutron rates. The observed effect is well reproduced by Monte Carlo simulations. The impact of this dependency on …

Density functional study of two-dimensionalHe4clusters

2005

Binding energies and density profiles of two-dimensional systems of liquid He-4 with different geometries are studied by means of a zero-range density functional adjusted to reproduce the line tension obtained in a previous diffusion Monte Carlo calculation (lambda_{DMC}=0.121 K/A). It is shown that this density functional provides accurate results for the binding energy of large clusters with a reasonable computational effort.

Neutron and proton spectra from the decay of Lambda hypernuclei

1996

We have determined the spectra of neutrons and protons following the decay of $\Lambda$ hypernuclei through the one- and two-nucleon induced mechanisms. The momentum distributions of the primary nucleons are calculated and a Monte Carlo simulation is used to account for final state interactions. From the spectra we calculate the number of neutrons ($N_n$) and protons ($N_p$) per $\Lambda$ decay and show how the measurement of these quantities, particularly $N_p$, can lead to a determination of $\Gamma_n / \Gamma_p$, the ratio of neutron to proton induced $\Lambda$ decay. We also show that the consideration of the two-nucleon induced channel has a repercussion in the results, widening the ba…

Molecular Rearrangement of an Aza-Scorpiand Macrocycle Induced by pH: A Computational Study †

2016

Rearrangements and their control are a hot topic in supramolecular chemistry due to the possibilities that these phenomena open in the design of synthetic receptors and molecular machines. Macrocycle aza-scorpiands constitute an interesting system that can reorganize their spatial structure depending on pH variations or the presence of metal cations. In this study, the relative stabilities of these conformations were predicted computationally by semi-empirical and density functional theory approximations, and the reorganization from closed to open conformations was simulated by using the Monte Carlo multiple minimum method Financial support by the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitiv…

2022

Mērījumu nenoteiktība pastāv visiem mērījumiem. Darbā tiek aprakstītas mērījumu nenoteiktības novērtēšanas metodes. Tiek apskatīta metode, kas tiek aprakstīta GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) standartos un metode, kas balstīta uz Montekarlo simulācijām. Abas metodes tiek salīdzinātas gan ar kvantitatīvām, gan kvalitatīvām metodēm, izmantojot praktiskus piemērus.
