Abstract: Purpose: We established the efficacy and safety of sublingual apomorphine compared with oral sildenafil. in comparable groups of patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). Materials and Methods: This prospective, randomized, crossover study included 77 heterosexual men with ED of various etiologies and severities. A total of 62 men were randomized but only 34 were evaluable for efficacy and tolerability. The study started with a run-in period of 2 to 4 weeks. Abstract Firemaster BP6, a mixture of polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), was administered to female Sprague-Dawley rats (170–180 g) as a single ip injection at 25 and 150 mg/kg. Other animals received phenobarbital (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC), or PB and 3MC together. Animals were killed at intervals of 12, 24, 48, 192, and 336 hr after treatment with PBBs, or 24 hr after PB, MC, or PB-MC, and various hepatic microsomal parameters were measured. After 150 mg/kg of PBBs, cytochrome P450 concentrations reached a maximum by 48 hr (225% of control), then remained elevated through 336 hr. Neurointermediate lobes of rat pituitaries were incubated in Locke or Krebs solution, and the vasopressin released into the medium was assayed on the blood pressure of the pithed rat or by a radioimmunological procedure. Release of vasopressin over resting levels was evoked either by incubation with 60 mM KCl (high K) solution or by electrical stimulation of the pituitary stalk. Abstract Benzodiazepines are now commonly used as anxiolytic premedication prior to surgery. However, the role of opioids, as a premedication, has diminished over the last decades and they are no longer routinely used for premedication.
