A comment on mortgage procylicality

This paper comments on mortgage procyclicality. A framework for credit constraints along the lines of Kiyotaki and Moore (1997) is applied to illustrate a potential regime shift in the credit risk assessments of mortgagees. Depending on the relationship between house price growth and the alternative rate of return the weight given to collateral and debt-servicing ability may vary according to the house price cycle as mortgagees engage in search-for-yield. The regime shifts induced by increased global liquidity and expectations of continued housing appreciation might stimulate owner-occupation and LTV-ratios and induce mortgage procyclicality.

The spectacular development of the Spanish mortgage market during the last decade has increased the concern about its financial integration with other capital markets. This paper examines the degree of integration between the mortgage market and two broader capital markets such as the public debt market and the money market in the Spanish case. With this purpose, different time series techniques in a context of cointegration have been used. Interactions between financial stress and economic activity for the U.S.: A time- and frequency-varying analysis using wavelets

Abstract This paper examines the interactions between the main U.S. financial stress indices and several measures of economic activity in the time–frequency domain using a number of continuous cross-wavelet tools, including the usual wavelet squared coherence and phase difference as well as two new summary wavelet-based measures. The empirical results show that the relationship between financial stress and the U.S. real economy varies considerably over time and depending on the time horizon considered. O potrzebie nowego uregulowania odwróconej hipoteki

Głównym celem pracy jest zbadanie polskiego stanu prawnego dotyczącego instytucji odwróconej hipoteki oraz analiza stosowalności i skuteczności przyjętych regulacji. Na gruncie tego opracowania podjęta została próba udowodnienia tezy, że instytucja odwróconej hipoteki jest potrzebna, lecz aktualny stan prawny jest uregulowaniem niepełnym i nieskutecznym, a ponadto, że istnieje potrzeba nowego unormowania obu modeli odwróconej hipoteki. Aby udowodnić postawioną tezę, konieczne było przeanalizowanie procesów legislacyjnych ustawy o odwróconym kredycie hipotecznym oraz ustawy o dożywotnim świadczeniu pieniężnym, która to ostatecznie nie weszła w życie.
