Predicting patient post-detoxification engagement in 12-step groups with an extended version of the theory of planned behavior

2015

Introduction Individuals with substance use disorders can receive important abstinence-specific support in 12-step groups (TSGs). However, our understanding of key factors that influence TSG participation remains limited. This study used an extended version of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to enhance the understanding of TSG affiliation. Methods Data were retrieved from a controlled trial of a 12-step facilitation intervention conducted on an inpatient detoxification ward in Norway (N = 140). Surveys at baseline included a TPB questionnaire. The behavioral target was to attend at least two TSG meetings per month in the 6-month follow-up period. Structural equation modeling was used t…

Evaluating the missing links in the relationship between executives' compensation and firm performance

2014

The research on the relationship between executive compensation and firm performance is extensive but has produced inconsistent results and, typically, weak explanatory power. One cause of these results is use of an incomplete theoretical framework that ignores some variables that are related to these two concepts. We explore the missing links between them. The paper contributes to scholarly and practical understanding of this important issue in the literature by extending and combining agency theory, upper echelons theory, and motivation theory perspectives. The paper develops a model that describes and explains the interactive relationship between executive managerial ability, executive c…

Prosociālas uzvedības motivācijas saistība ar morālo identitāti brīvprātīgā darba veicējiem

2021

Respondenti aizpildīja aptauju, kura sastāvēja no Brīvprātīgā darba funkciju aptaujas (Volunteer functions inventory; Clary et al., 1998 – aptauja tika adaptēta pētījuma ietvaros) un Morālās identitātes nozīmības skalas (The self-importance of moral identity scale; Aquino & Reed, 200…

Study of students' motivation to perform learning tasks using the educational virtual environment Silva Numerica

2022

This document presents the modalities of realization and the results of two experiments of the use of the EVE Silva Numerica with students of 1st technological STAV. It shows the impact of different scenarios of use of this EVE with regard to a scenario using a video resource on the regulation of student motivation during a teaching/learning session concerning concepts relating to forest development (environment and competition). It is based on the model developed by the self-determination theory - SDT (Deci and Ryan, 1971, 1975, 1985, 1991) and reworked by Vallerand et al. (1989) in the context of the development of the educational motivation scale (EMS), a tool on which we based our data …

Exploring psychosocial risk factors for dropout in adolescent female soccer

2022

Objectives We examined the manner in which age, participation in other sports, socioeconomic status, perceived sport competence, achievement goal orientations, and perceived motivational climate may interact to predict the risk of dropout among adolescent female soccer players. Methods Self-reported data from 519 female soccer players between 10 and 19 years of age (M = 13.41, SD = 1.77) were analysed using a person-centred approach to uncover the interactions among risk factors and their relative predictability of dropout. Results Perceived motivational climate was identified as the main predictor, where relatively lower levels of mastery climate were associated with a higher dropout tende…

The Role of Psychological Factors in Judo: A Systematic Review.

2022

(1) Background: Psychological parameters are relevant in the practice of judo. Previous studies have shown that parameters such as anxiety or motivation can have a negative or positive impact on the athlete’s performance and general well-being, depending on the athlete’s perception. This systematic review aimed to summarize the studies examining the influence of various psychological parameters on well-being and performance in judo athletes; (2) Methods: We followed preferred reporting elements for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. We searched the Web of Science database for studies that explained the role of these parameters in elite athletes. Of the 286 articles initially identified, …

Students' school performance, task-focus, and situation-specific motivation

2015

Going beyond studies of individual differences in and profiles of students' motivation, we investigated situation-specific (intra-personal) experiences of autonomous (enjoyment, interest, and task choice) and controlled (having to do, and the teacher wanting them to do a task) motivation across learning situations during one week, and how these were related to student characteristics (teacher rated academic performance and task-focus). Three-hundred and fourteen primary school students (Years 5 and 6) completed electronic questionnaires on Personal Digital Assistants, on an average of 11.2 learning episodes during a week. Multilevel Structural Equation Models provided support for a model ba…

Effects of school-based interventions on motivation towards physical activity in children and adolescents: Protocol for a systematic review

2019

Background Recent studies have observed low levels of physical activity in children and adolescents worldwide. Physical activity interventions are increasingly carried out to counteract this development. The school environment is an ideal setting for such interventions to take place as large numbers of children and adolescents can be addressed. With the assumption that motivation is the key to initiate and sustain beneficial health behaviors, theory-based intervention studies apply motivational strategies to increase students’ participation in physical activity. The main objective of this systematic review will be to analyze the effects of school-based physical activity interventions on a v…
