The appreciation of Islamic textiles since the Middle Ages is evident in religious painting. The aim of this paper is to analyze the survival of orna…
Raman Spectroscopic Signatures of Echovirus 1 Uncoating
2014
ABSTRACT In recent decades, Raman spectroscopy has entered the biological and medical fields. It enables nondestructive analysis of structural details at the molecular level and has been used to study viruses and their constituents. Here, we used Raman spectroscopy to study echovirus 1 (EV1), a small, nonenveloped human pathogen, in two different uncoating states induced by heat treatments. Raman signals of capsid proteins and RNA genome were observed from the intact virus, the uncoating intermediate, and disrupted virions. Transmission electron microscopy data revealed general structural changes between the studied particles. Compared to spectral characteristics of proteins in the intact v…
Interactionist Approach to Visual Aesthetics in HCI
2021
Visual Aesthetics has gathered interest among scholars in HCI research. The growing interest stems from examinations of the aesthetic-usability effect (“what is beautiful is usable”), and possibly vice versa. Thus, numerous studies focus on understanding how we make sense and experience visual entities in interacting with technology. However, theoretical, and methodological stances vary, which impact conclusions of the studies conducted, and thus, affect design implications. Visual experience research in HCI lacks detailed conceptualizations of the constituents of visual experience and understanding of how these conceptualizations affect the overall research results through implicit methodo…
Electronic properties and mobile defects distribution in amorphous semiconducting passive films
2003
A study of the electronic properties of thin (drop 25 nm) a-WO3 and a-Nb2O5 is presented. Based on theory of amorphous semiconductor Schottky barrier the fitting of admittance curves in a large range of electrode potential (around 9 V) and a.c. frequency (100 Hz - 10 kHz) is performed. A density of electronic state distribution (DOS) is derived, which mimics the mobile defects distribution suggested by the classical high field model of oxides growth.

Masteroppgave i helsefag ME 518 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Aim: In USA it was postulated that up to 98000 people died because of medical error eachyear and that the cause is human failure that include non-technical skills as communicationand interaction between health personnel. Studies from Norway show the same patterns. Theinterest for non-technical skills within teamwork has an increased focus in a way to increasepatient safety. The aim with this study is to find what quality it is on teamwork in Norwegianemergency department. Background: None clinical studies are found regarding quality on teamwork in emergencydepartment. Many studies measure quality on teamwork while simulating a patien…
Transient structural ordering of the RNA-binding domain of carnation mottle virus p7 movement protein modulates nucleic acid binding.
2005
Plant viral movement proteins bind to RNA and participate in the intra- and intercellular movement of the RNAs from plant viruses. However, the role and magnitude of the conformational changes associated with the formation of RNA-protein complexes are not yet defined. Here we describe studies on the relevance of a preexisting nascent alpha-helix at the C terminus of the RNA-binding domain of p7, a movement protein from carnation mottle virus, to RNA binding. Synthetic peptide analogues and single amino acid mutation at the RNA-binding domain of recombinant p7 protein were used to correlate the transient structural order in aqueous solution with RNA-binding potential.

Association between food insecurity and depression among older adults from low- and middle-income countries.
2021
Background:\ud \ud To examine the association between self‐reported food insecurity and depression in 34,129 individuals aged ≥50 years from six low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa).\ud \ud Methods:\ud \ud Cross‐sectional, community‐based, nationally representative data from the WHO Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) were analyzed. Self‐reported past 12‐month food insecurity was assessed with two questions on frequency of eating less and hunger due to lack of food. Questions based on the World Mental Health Survey version of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview were used for the endorsement of past 12‐month …
Corrosion behaviour of a highly alloyed austenitic alloy UB6 in contaminated phosphoric acid
2013
The influence of temperature (20–80°C) on the electrochemical behaviour of passive films anodically formed on UB6 stainless steel in phosphoric acid solution (5.5 M H3PO4) has been examined by using potentiodynamic curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky analysis. UB6 stainless steel in contaminated phosphoric acid is characterised by high interfacial impedance, thereby, illustrating its high corrosion resistance. The obtained results show that the films behave as n-type and p-type semiconductors in the potential range above and below the flat band potential, respectively. This behaviour is assumed to be the consequence of the semiconducting properties of the iron …
Semiconducting properties of passive films and corrosion layers on weathering steel
2020
Abstract Anodic films were grown on Weathering Steel by potentiostatic polarization in slightly alkaline solution. The photoelectrochemical results reveal that they are n-type iron oxide with Eg = 2.0 eV. Rust layer grown by atmospheric corrosion are n-type semiconductors with a band gap higher than that estimated for the anodic film attributed to the formation of γ-lepidocrocite. The electrochemical impedance spectra allow to evidence that rust layers have a higher conductivity with respect to anodic films due to the presence of highly doped iron oxide layers. The use of Mott-Schottky theory to model the dependence of oxide capacitance as function of potential is critically discussed.
