Assessment of Adult Mouse Brain Neuroanatomical Phenotypes Using Quantitative and Precision Histology

Modelling human neurodevelopmental disorders is important in biomedical research since the brain cannot be easily accessed in humans. In this chapter, we describe a series of standardized procedures for the reliable analysis of neuroanatomical phenotypes (NAPs) of the adult mouse brain using quantitative 2D histological practices. Our goal is to provide the reader an experimental pipeline, ranging from experimental work through to data analysis, which can be performed in any academic research setting with or without access to a histology platform. This article presents a step towards the inclusion of a preview control with established tactile interactive devices, such as the computer mouse and touch pad. It describes the origins of the device and its likely advantages in terms of ease of use and faster data retrieval as, for example, when a page previously consulted needs to be accessed again. The article limits itself to the contribution made by the device towards the consultation of digital documents, in particular on Internet sites. A novel homologous model for noninvasive monitoring of endometriosis progression.

To date, several groups have generated homologous models of endometriosis through the implantation of endometrial tissue fluorescently labeled by green fluorescent protein (GFP) or tissue from luciferase-expressing transgenic mice into recipient animals, enabling noninvasive monitoring of lesion signal. These models present an advantage over endpoint models, but some limitations persist; use of transgenic mice is laborious and expensive, and GFP presents poor tissue penetration due to the relatively short emission wavelength. Background & Aims Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a key role in the maintenance of the gut immune homeostasis, and an intact transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling is required for their function. In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the TGF-β signaling is impaired because of high expression of the inhibitory molecule Smad7. Although no intrinsic defects in Tregs function have been shown in IBD, it is still unknown whether colitogenic T cells are susceptible to Treg-mediated suppression. Cytotoxic eudesmane sesquiterpenes from Crepis sancta

Abstract Chemical exploration of Crepis sancta (L.) Bornm. (Asteraceae) aerial parts afforded two new eudesmane sesquiterpenes (1 and 2) together with three known congeners (3-5) and two known methylated flavonoids (6 and 7). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was unambiguously performed based on HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. All isolated compounds were subjected to an in vitro cytotoxicity assay against mouse lymphoma (L5178Y) cells, revealing moderate activities with IC50 ranging from 7.9 to 21.0 μM.

Exploitation competition between hole‐nesters ( Muscardinus avellanarius , Mammalia and Parus caeruleus , Aves) in Mediterranean woodlands

Data from a long-term study (1993-2003) using artificial nest-boxes, were analysed to examine competition for nesting between blue tit Parus caeruleus and common dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius in Sicily. Occupation rates and the reproductive biology of the blue tit in sample woodlots outside the distribution area of the common dormouse were used as a control in sample areas where the two species were syntopic. A selection test showed that the two species, when living in syntopy, actively chose the small nest-boxes, thus overlapping in the use of the same spatial resource. The helminth community of the wood mouse, <I>Apodemus sylvaticus</I>, in the Sierra Espuña, Murcia, Spain

The helminth community of the wood mouse, Apodemus sylvaticus, in the Sierra Espuna was characterized after a complete analysis of its helminth community component and infracommunity structure relative to host age, sex and year of capture. The helminth community comprised 13 species: one trematode, four cestodes and eight nematodes. The cestode Pseudocatenotaenia matovi and the nematode Syphacia frederici were the most prevalent and abundant helminth species, respectively. Sixty four percent of mice analysed presented helminths with a direct cycle and 42% presented helminths with an indirect cycle.
