Personality traits correlate with characteristics of music-induced movement
2009
Individual factors such as personality are essential for understanding musical experiences and engagement with music. Personality has been shown to be related to musical preferences and experiences, but little is known about how it affects music-related movement. The current study examined whether personality traits were related to the way in which people moved spontaneously to music. Twenty young adults (7 males, and 13 females, mean age 24.0 years) were asked to move spontaneously to a 12 bar blues sequence, and their movements were tracked with an optical motion capture system. Movement was measured with 16 variables which assessed the amount and type of movements exhibited, such as spee…
Meeting the 24-h movement guidelines and health-related outcomes among youth with autism spectrum disorder: a seven-country observational study
2023
Abstract Background Meeting daily guidelines for physical activity, screen time, and sleep duration is associated with a host of health indicators for youth. In this cross-sectional observational study, we investigated the associations between adherence to the movement guidelines and health-related outcomes among youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods Parents of youth with ASD (10–17 years) from seven countries and regions were invited to provide online proxy-reports for child’s movement behaviors (i.e., physical activity, sleep and screen time), and health-related outcomes (i.e., body mass index [BMI], general health, and quality of life). A series of multiple linear regression…
Podręcznik do nauki śpiewu Gesanglehre Bernharda Kothego (1821–1897)
2020
Singing is recognized as the most primary form of human contact with music. This art is an important element of the development, education and upbringing of the young generation. Inviting a child to the world of music lies first with the parent and then with the teacher. The popularity of various types of textbooks, songbooks or guidebooks indicates a great interest in music education. Although singing cannot be learned from a book, such studies are a great help. The author of the textbook Gesanglehre guided the idea of introducing the child to the world of music and showing the right ways of making music. This position was developed by Bernhard Kothe in 1872, and later perfected it in subse…
Eläinten puolustajat : suomalaisen eläinoikeusaktivismin muuttuva poliittinen tyyli ja toiseus
2016
This study examines animal rights activism in Finland. Since 1995, when the first public acts of animal liberation in Finland took place, animal rights activists have made up one of the most debated Finnish social movements. In this research, I study animal rights activism as a phenomenon and as a form of political action. The study approaches the issue by applying the concepts of political style and cultural othering as analytical tools. The study is empirical and bases its analysis on qualitative methodology, especially content analysis. I interviewed activists in 2000-2002 and again in 2015. I have also done observation at demonstrations as well as some campaign analysis. In the five art…
Prefaces in medical dictionaries: from moves to rhetorical analysis
2017
Medical dictionaries represent, among the other things, an important pedagogic genre (Swales 1995, Bhatia, 1997, Hyland 2000) within academic education, since they are the means through which professional writers talk about their disciplines and address to scholars. The preface sections are of the utmost importance since, among several functions, they (should) attract and orient the readers (Azar, 2012). This paper describes the macro structure of preface sections in fourteen English dictionaries related to the field of medicine and investigates on the rhetorical and discursive devices employed in these texts to establish the importance of the author's work. In addition, the paper questions…
Ruch w twórczości rysunkowej dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym i wczesnoszkolnym
2020
Glosa do biografii ks. Karola Koziołka
2020
Ks. Karol Koziołek, proboszcz parafii w Grabinie koło Prudnika, to jeden z czołowych działaczy polskiego ruchu narodowego na Śląsku Opolskim. W 1928 r. został posłem do sejmiku prowincjonalnego. Ks. Koziołek odegrał szczególną rolę w kształtow…
A Hundred Years of the Project Method in Poland
2017
The text presents the development of the project method in Polish education throughout the last century. The project method was introduced in Poland afiter regaining independence, and (1918-1939) it was implemented during the inter-war period in some schools both in urban and rural environments. Nevertheless, the method was at that time treated as a pedagogical novelty and experiment rather than a natural part of school life. After 1945, education, as other aspects of socio-political life, was influenced by the communist propaganda, and the project method supporting autonomy, democracy and empowerment was not promoted as a valuable educational approach. After 1989, when progressive trends a…

Motor imagery in unipolar major depression.
2014
Background: Motor imagery is a potential tool to investigate action representation, as it can provide insights into the processes of action planning and preparation. Recent studies suggest that depressed patients present specific impairment in mental rotation. The present study was designed to investigate the influence of unipolar depression on motor imagery ability. Methods: Fourteen right-handed patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for unipolar depression were compared to 14 matched healthy controls. Imagery ability was accessed by the timing correspondence between executed and imagined movements during a pointing task, involving strong spatiotemporal constraints (speed/accuracy trade-off par…
