Outcomes after perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with proximal femoral fractures: an international cohort study
2021
ObjectivesStudies have demonstrated high rates of mortality in people with proximal femoral fracture and SARS-CoV-2, but there is limited published data on the factors that influence mortality for clinicians to make informed treatment decisions. This study aims to report the 30-day mortality associated with perioperative infection of patients undergoing surgery for proximal femoral fractures and to examine the factors that influence mortality in a multivariate analysis.SettingProspective, international, multicentre, observational cohort study.ParticipantsPatients undergoing any operation for a proximal femoral fracture from 1 February to 30 April 2020 and with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infec…
Rationale, design, and baseline characteristics in Evaluation of LIXisenatide in Acute Coronary Syndrome, a long-term cardiovascular end point trial …
2015
BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular (CV) disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Furthermore, patients with T2DM and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have a particularly high risk of CV events. The glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist, lixisenatide, improves glycemia, but its effects on CV events have not been thoroughly evaluated.METHODS: ELIXA (www.clinicaltrials.gov no. NCT01147250) is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter study of lixisenatide in patients with T2DM and a recent ACS event. The primary aim is to evaluate the effects of lixisenatide on CV morbidity and mortality in a population …
Infliximab for pediatric ulcerative colitis: a retrospective Italian multicenter study.
2008
Abstract Background Infliximab (IFX), the chimeric anti TNFalpha antibody, an established treatment for Crohn's disease in adults and in children, is used less frequently in ulcerative colitis (UC). Aim of the study To report the clinical course of pediatric patients with active UC receiving IFX. Patients and methods Charts of 22 patients were reviewed (13 male, 9 female): 4 with a severe UC attack refractory to systemic corticosteroids (CS); 18 with a protracted course, of which 16 CS-dependent and 2 CS-resistant. The baseline therapeutic program consisted of 3 consecutive intravenous infusions (0, 2, 6 weeks) of IFX (5 mg/kg), followed by a retreatment schedule (infusion every 8 weeks); a…
International, multicenter evaluation of a new D-dimer assay for the exclusion of venous thromboembolism using standard and age-adjusted cut-offs.
2017
We sought to determine the test characteristics of an automated INNOVANCE D-dimer assay for the exclusion of pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in emergency department (ED) patients using standard and age-adjusted cut-offs.Cross-sectional, international, multicenter study of consecutive patients with suspected DVT or PE in 24 centers (18 USA, 6 Europe). Evaluated patients had low or intermediate Wells PE or DVT scores. For the standard cut-off, a D-dimer result500 ng/ml was negative. For the age adjusted cut-off, we used the formula: Age (years) ∗ 10. The diagnostic standard was imaging demonstrating PE or DVT within 3 months. We calculated test characteristics using s…
Cardiopulmonary Hemodynamic Profile Predicts Mortality After Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair in Chronic Heart Failure.
2020
This study was designed to assess hemodynamic changes in response to transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair (TTVR) and to identify hemodynamic predictors associated with mortality.Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is associated with high mortality. TTVR effectively alleviates heart failure symptoms, but comprehensive hemodynamic characterization of patients undergoing TTVR is currently lacking. This international, multicenter study included 236 patients undergoing TTVR. Data from clinical assessment, echocardiography, intraprocedural right heart catheterization, and noninvasive cardiac output measurement were analyzed. Hemodynamic predictors for mortality were identified using l…
Aflibercept in Combination With FOLFIRI as First-line Chemotherapy in Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer (mCRC): A Phase II Study (FFCD 1302)
2020
Abstract Background FOLFIRI (irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and leucovorin) + aflibercept improves median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Our aim was to investigate efficacy and tolerability of this combination in the first line. Patients and Methods Patients with untreated documented mCRC received aflibercept plus FOLFIRI every 14 days until progression or unacceptable toxicity in an open, phase II single-arm, multicenter trial. The primary endpoint was the 6-month PFS rate. Secondary endpoints were OS and tolerability. A 2-step Simon design was used with H0: 55% and H1= 75%. Data were analyzed …
Deflazacort vs. prednisone in Duchenne muscular dystrophy: trends of an ongoing study
1995
Several studies have demonstrated the slowing effect of corticosteroids on the decline of muscle strength in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Deflazacort (DFC) is supposed to have fewer side effects than prednisone (PRED). An ongoing double blind multicenter study is comparing the effects and side effects of deflazacort (0.9 mg/kg/day) and prednisone (0.75 mg/kg/day) in DMD. This interim report includes data for 67 boys between age 5 years and loss of ambulation. Besides the common clinical and laboratory data for chronic corticoid treatment, motor performance has been tested. Interim results, 3-15 months after starting the medication, show some scattering but no grouping of data for all …
Booster vaccination with hexavalent DTPa-HBV-IPV/Hib vaccine in the second year of life is as safe as concomitant DTPa-IPV/Hib + HBV administered sep…
2003
The safety and reactogenicity of a booster dose of GSK Biologicals' hexavalent DTPa-HBV-IPV/Hib vaccine (N=4725) was compared with the separate administration of GSK Biologicals' DTPa-IPV/Hib and HBV vaccines (N=4474) in two open, randomized multicenter studies (A and B). Solicited symptoms occurring within 4 days of vaccination were recorded on diary cards and serious adverse events (SAEs) were collected throughout the study period. In Study A (N=1149), incidences of solicited symptoms were similar in both groups; there were no SAEs either reported within 4 days of vaccination or considered to be causally related to vaccination. In study B (N=8050), where fever was the only solicited sympt…
Frequency of Renal Dysfunction and Frailty in Patients ≥80 Years of Age With Acute Coronary Syndromes.
2019
While a significant association between renal function and outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) has been consistently described, little information exists about the magnitude of this association in patients at older ages. No study assessed the prognostic role of renal function according to frailty in patients with ACS. The LONGEVO-SCA registry included unselected ACS patients aged≥80 years. Frailty was asessesed by the FRAIL scale, and baseline creatinine clearance was calculated by the Cockroff-Gault formula. We evaluated the impact of renal function on mortality or readmission at 6-months according to frailty status by the Cox regression method. A total of 473 patients…
Longitudinal relationship between B-type natriuretic peptide and anxiety in coronary heart disease patients with depression.
2018
Patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) suffer from physical limitations, but also from psychological distress. Natriuretic peptides may be involved in the neurobiological processes that modulate psychological adaptation, as they are increased in heart disease and seem to have an anxiolytic-like function. Longitudinal data on this association are scarce. To assess the relationship between NT-proBNP and anxiety (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS)), we used secondary data from a multicenter trial from baseline to 24 months. Patients (N = 308, 80.8% male, mean age 60.1 years) had stable CHD and moderate levels of depression (HADS ≥8).Multiple linear regression adjusted for age, sex…
