In Japan, CLIL instruction falls under a soft-CLIL approach, content serving as secondary to language instruction. Furthermore, assessment in classrooms in Japan is oftentimes limited to assessing the product summatively. In the paper, we argue for the value of focusing on content in CLIL activities and assessing the process with the goal to promote learning. Monikielisyyden tukeminen on vahvasti esillä uusimmissa varhaiskasvatuksen opetussuunnitelmissa. Tarkastelemme tässä artikkelissa varhaiskasvatuksen toimijoiden kokemuksia monikielisyydestä ja kielitietoisista toimintatavoista. Tutkimus perustuu monikielisessä lapsiryhmässä työskentelevälle henkilöstölle suunnattuun kyselyaineistoon (n = 86). Aineisto analysoitiin temaattista analyysia ja sisällön erittelyä hyödyntävän sisällönanalyysin keinoin. Tässä tapaustutkimuksessa tarkastelemme, millainen käyttöteoria kaksikielistä pedagogiikkaa (suomi-ruotsi) varhaiskasvatuksessa toteuttavalla eksperttiopettajalla on eri kielten käytöstä monikielisten lasten kanssa toimiessa. Käyttöteorialla tarkoitetaan tässä pedagogista näkemystä, joka ohjaa opettajan toimintaa. Käyttöteoriaa eri kielten käytöstä lähestyttiin kahden tutkimuskysymyksen kautta, joissa tarkasteltiin kielikasvatuksen käyttöteorian keskeisiä osa-alueita ja niiden ilmenemistä eri kielissä. In this article, we apply critical discourse analysis and ethnography to examine conceptionsand experiences of inclusive interaction and language use in the context of eldercare in aretirement home. Our data consist of interviews with residents, nurses and managers intwo bilingual eldercare units, as well as ethnographic observations of communication andlanguage use in these units. Our analysis focuses especially on language ideologies andmetalinguistic aspects of inclusive language in the context of eldercare. This is an introduction to a compilation of six articles on language ideologies in the Romanian Banat. My dissertation was initiated by fieldwork in the area, resulting to a database of interviews among the Hungarian and German inhabitants. This data is compared to intellectual writings. With regards to researcher position, I identify myself as a traveler in the area and as a foreign scholar. Als besonders drastisch ist der Rückgang von Deutschlernern an finnischen Schulen einzuschätzen. Die vorliegende Studie ist Teil des Projekts Deutsch als Verkehrssprache in Finnland, das auf die Untersuchung der Rolle des Deutschen in akademischen und wirtschaftlichen Kontexten in Finnland abzielt. El romanés i el valencià presenten un contrast similar entre la sibilant no palatal /s/ i la sibilant palatal /?/, però l’articulació de les dues consonants presenta diferències entre les dues llengües. D’una banda, en romanés /s/ es realitza com a dental, més avançada que en valencià; de l’altra, /?/ presenta en romanés un grau de palatalitat major, amb més endarreriment articulatori que en valencià.
