"Nerdfighters, we did it" : means of building a sense of community on the YouTube channel Vlogbrothers
2015
Tutkielmani tarkoituksena on selvittää, kuinka YouTuben videobloggaajat rakentavat yhteisöllisyyden tunnetta faniensa keskuudessa. Tutkimuskohteenani on YouTube-kanava Vlogbrothers, jolla on yli kaksi miljoonaa vakituista katsojaa ja jonka ympärille on rakentunut poikkeuksellisen tiivis kansainvälinen katsojayhteisö. Videodataa analysoimalla pyrin erottamaan erilaisia keinoja, joilla vloggaajat vahvistavat yhteisöllisyyde…
Palmprint and face score level fusion: hardware implementation of a contactless small sample biometric system
2011
Including multiple sources of information in personal identity recognition and verification gives the opportunity to greatly improve performance. We propose a contactless biometric system that combines two modalities: palmprint and face. Hardware implementations are proposed on the Texas Instrument Digital Signal Processor and Xilinx Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) platforms. The algorithmic chain consists of a preprocessing (which includes palm extraction from hand images), Gabor feature extraction, comparison by Hamming distance, and score fusion. Fusion possibilities are discussed and tested first using a bimodal database of 130 subjects that we designed (uB database), and then two …
Modular Assembly of Multimodal Imaging Agents through an Inverse Electron Demand Diels–Alder Reaction
2019
International audience; The combination of two imaging probes on a same biomolecule gives access to targeted bimodal imaging agents that can provide more accurate diagnosis, complementary information, or that may be used in different applications, such as PET imaging and fluorescence imagingassisted surgery. In this study, we demonstrate that dichlorotetrazine, a small, commercially available compound, can be used as a modular platform to easily assemble various imaging probes. Doubly-labeled tetrazines can then be conjugated to a protein through a biorthogonal IEDDA reaction. A series of difunctionalized tetrazine compounds containing various chelating agents and fluorescent dyes was synth…
Marquage de molécules biologiques par des complexes de radiométaux à base de polyamines macrocycliques
2012
This work conducted at the “Institut de Chimie Moléculaire de l’Université de Bourgogne” carries at first on the synthesis of bifunctional chelating agents suitable for the chelation of trivalent radiometals, including indium-111. The greater part of this work was then dedicated to the grafting of a DOTA derivative bifunctional chelating agent on different antibodies or fragments of monoclonal antibodies: trastuzumab (anti-HER2 treatment of breast cancer), cetuximab (anti EGFR, treatment of many cancers, including colorectal cancer) and abciximab (antiplatelet). Particular attention was paid to the characterization of various immunoconjugates. The critical step of this thesis consisted in t…
Using cross-modal interactions to counterbalance salt reduction in solid foods
2011
International audience; We investigated odour-induced saltiness enhancement (OISE) in a solid model cheese with the aim of evaluating the influence of cross-modal interactions (odour-texture-taste) on saltiness perception and assessing the efficacy of using OISE to counterbalance salt reduction. Four model cheeses, varying in texture, were flavoured with three commercial tasteless aromas (comte cheese, sardine and carrot) differently associated with salty and cheesy food products. Twenty-seven consumers evaluated taste intensity, aroma intensity and its congruence with the product flavour, and the overall pleasantness of 12 flavoured and four unflavoured samples. The comparison of the perce…
Capturing learning in classroom interaction in mathematics: Methodological considerations
2015
International audience; This paper discusses issues of how to transcribe and analyze video-recordings when studying learning in small group work in mathematics. Since bodily features of interaction and the use of artefacts play important roles in mathematical reasoning, a multimodal approach to transcribing is necessary. Thus, the theoretical grounding for transcriptions has to be in accord with the perspective on learning adopted in the analysis. In the paper, the principles for studying what Radford (2000) refers to as knowledge objectification processes when learning mathematics will be discussed.
Metaphorical GIFs and humour online: the case of “when” posts on Tumblr
2021
International audience; “When” posts have now become a staple of microblogging platforms such as Twitter, Tumblr or Facebook. They consist of two things: a verbal caption opening with “When” followed by an assertive clause describing a situation of life on the one hand, and a static or moving image presenting a visual elaboration of the situation described in the caption on the other hand. “When” posts rely on the striking relationship between what the caption describes and what the image shows. In the case of the posts selected for the present study, this relationship is metaphorical: the caption and the image, which are juxtaposed without mediation, act respectively as a verbal tenor and …
Fiber-based light source for biomedical applications
2013
This manuscript presents the work done concerning the development of a light source used for biomedical imaging and more particularly for coherent Raman scattering imaging. In fact an efficient broadcasting of these ones is hampered by the need of two synchronized and wavelength shifted pulses. As so, the handiness and frequency conversion capabilities of nonlinear fiber optics are used to circumvent this technological lock. First of all, an easy wavelength tunable source is set by the use of the self-shifting in optical frequency of a soliton. A study of the main fiber parameters lead to shifts of 320 to more than 500 nm which allows interesting molecular resonances imaging (≈ 1000-4000 cm…
Pain management in ERAS approach for abdominal surgery: A narrative review
2020
A Deep Learning Model for Automatic Sleep Scoring using Multimodality Time Series
2021
Sleep scoring is a fundamental but time-consuming process in any sleep laboratory. Automatic sleep scoring is crucial and urgent to help address the increasing unmet need for sleep research. Therefore, this paper aims to develop an end-to-end deep learning architecture using raw polysomnographic recordings to automate sleep scoring. The proposed model adopts two-dimensional convolutional neural networks (2D-CNN) to automatically learn features from multi-modality signals, together with a "squeeze and excitation" block for recalibrating channel-wise feature responses. The learnt representations are finally fed to a softmax classifier to generate predictions for each sleep stage. The model pe…
