Experimental tests of the spectroscopic coupling for neutral oxygen

2008

Abstract The radiation emitted from a high-current wall-stabilized arc operated in helium with some admixture of CO 2 has been studied. Intensities of fine structure components for 10 multiplets of neutral oxygen (O I) have been determined applying the emission method. On the basis of measured line intensities relative line strengths within each studied multiplet have been obtained. The results are compared with data resulting from the LS-coupling scheme and with other theoretical as well as experimental results available in literature.

A case of femoral-facial syndrome in a patient with autism spectrum disorders.

2011

The Femoral hypoplasia - unusual facies syndrome (FHUF) or Femoral - facial syndrome (FFS) was at first described in 1975. Up to now about 60 cases have been reported. According to our knowledge only 4 cases have had congenital central nervous system's malformations, furthermore the main stages of psychomotor development are almost always reported as normal or slightly altered in early childhood. We describe the first case of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in a patient with FFS, emphasizing that this rare association could be one of many unrecognized underlying features.

Psychometric evaluation of the Finnish version of the impact on participation and autonomy questionnaire in persons with multiple sclerosis

2017

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the impact on participation and autonomy (IPA) questionnaire. The Finnish version of IPA (IPAFin) was translated into Finnish using the protocol for linguistic validation for patient-reported outcomes instruments. Methods: A total of 194 persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) (mean age 50 years SD 9, 72% female) with moderate to severe disability participated in this study. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to confirm the four factor structure of the IPAFin. The work and educational opportunities domain was excluded from analysis, because it was only applicable to 51 persons. Internal consistency…

The focal plane assembly for the Athena X-ray Integral Field Unit instrument

2016

This paper summarizes a preliminary design concept for the focal plane assembly of the X-ray Integral Field Unit on the Athena spacecraft, an imaging microcalorimeter that will enable high spectral resolution imaging and point-source spectroscopy. The instrument's sensor array will be a ~ 3840-pixel transition edge sensor (TES) microcalorimeter array, with a frequency domain multiplexed SQUID readout system allowing this large-format sensor array to be operated within the thermal constraints of the instrument's cryogenic system. A second TES detector will be operated in close proximity to the sensor array to detect cosmic rays and secondary particles passing through the sensor array for off…

Multimodal approach to foster the Multiliteracies pedagogy in the teaching of EFL through picturebooks: The Snow Lion

2020

Centrandon…

Phytochemical Analysis and Cytotoxicity Towards Multidrug-Resistant Leukemia Cells of Essential Oils Derived from Lebanese Medicinal Plants

2012

Juniperus excelsa fruit essential oil as well as J. oxycedrus, Cedrus libani, and Pinus pinea wood essential oils have been obtained with yields between 2.2 ± 0.3 % to 3.4 ± 0.5 % and analyzed by gas chromatography. Sesquiterpenes mainly characterized C. libani and J. oxycedrus essential oils, while in P. pinea and J. excelsa, monoterpenes were the most abundant compounds. In J. oxycedrus, cis-calamenene (7.8 %), cuparene (3.8 %), and cis-thujopsenal (2.0 %) have been detected for the first time. The cytotoxic activity of these essential oils against drug-sensitive CCRF-CEM and multidrug-resistant P-glycoprotein-expressing CEM/ADR5000 leukemia cells has been investigated (IC₅₀ values: 29.46…

Pharmacogenomic determination of genes associated with sensitivity or resistance of tumor cells to curcumin and curcumin derivatives

2010

Curcuma longa L. has long been used as a medicinal plant in traditional Chinese medicine against abdominal disorders. Its active constituent curcumin has anti-inflammatory, chemopreventive and cytotoxic properties. In the present investigation, we have analyzed the cytotoxic activity of curcumin and four derivatives. Among these compounds, ethoxycurcumintrithiadiazolaminomethylcarbonate was the most cytotoxic one. The curcumin-type compounds were not cross-resistant to standard anticancer drugs and were not involved in ATP-binding cassette transporter-mediated multidrug resistance. A combined approach of messenger RNA-based microarray profiling, COMPARE analyses and signaling pathway analys…

The role of diet in multiple sclerosis

2022

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS), characterized by chronic inflammation associated with autoimmune damage to myelin and axons leading to neurodegeneration. Although the etiology is not fully understood, some factors that increase the risk of disease have been identified. One of the key elements of multidisciplinary approach to the management of MS is a properly balanced diet, e.g. Swank diet. Its main assumption is to reduce the supply of animal fats in favor of fats of plant origin, which contain polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3. One of the factors influencing the course of the disease is vitamin D deficiency. In 80-90% it is synthesized by exposu…
